I am making a turntable in GCSE technology and i want to know if any one knows how to do the following can tell me

how to transfer the current from the live track to the track on the turntable

how to make the turntable stop in the right place.

you would use a brush set up. basically 2 disks that are connected to the track (one for each rail), they would rest on a bru***hat would be hard wired to the layout wiring. Note that you'll have to put a 2 way switch in to correctly alternate the power before you move a train onto the turntable to rpevent shorts. Some people say they've had success using a 1/8" plug and socket assembly hidden in the shaft as well.

if you're doing it by a power system, in set places, you'd want optical sensors to line up the tracks. otherwise for manual control, you'd want a click and lock system (similar to gears) at the points you want lined up.

The alternate method of wiring the turntable is to have two half disks, one connected to each rail. This gives automatic reversing, but there is a small dead spot where the disks are separated.
An old method used the rail in the turntable pit and contacts inside the bridge.
