PECO North American and Micro Engineering Turnouts and Track?
Posted by bnsfmb on Saturday, February 2, 2013 5:37 AM

I've been using Micro Engineering code 83 turnouts and track for my layout and am looking for some options for #8 turnouts since Micro Engineering does not seem to produce them.  Short of building them myself with fast tracks, would it be possible to use PECO code 83 north American?  Which brand of rail joiner would work on both of them or are the rail joiners universal and product/company independent?

Your ideas and help are greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

I use HO code 83 DCC ME and Walthers Shinohara together.  They match a little better than PECO in my opinion.

I remove the throwbar spring because it's redundant with Tortoise or sprung hand throws.  I don't add the details for guardrails, etc.

Walthers has had a track sale all month.  My wye was nackordered.  As for quality, I returned a wye with a frog gap too small and it was replaced with exact same.  The throwbars now seems to be looser which is better.  Still hard to solder to frog because of the plastic inside the frog wing rails.   Instead of heat sinks I now flip the TO over on a cold wet cloth and solder.

I use Wlathers code 83 track joiners that have the rivet details.  Sometimes need to loosen them for larger rail profiles like Atlas flex.
