The area is just about ready for me to start the first stage of my HO model railroad. I will get the construction materials this next weekend. This will be a shelf railroad built in three stages. i want this to be a model railroad that i can complete so i went with a shelf and will do it in the 3 stages. The first stage will be 22 inches deep and 10 feet long. I have 4 engines bought that need to be converted to DCC with sound and i will be purchasing an NCE Power Cab system at the end of the month. Getting excited!

We feel your excitement. Starting something new like this is always a terrific experience.
The other responder is right, though. Don't let your enthusiasm carry you into trouble. It sounds like you already have a design that meets your needs, and that's good. But patience is a virtue that reaps huge rewards in this hobby. In fact, it may be the only indespensible skill for the model railroader.
Since you said "this weekend" and it's Monday morning, I'm assuming that you mean this coming weekend. Start your benchwork and proceed carefully, making sure everthing is well fastened, square, and level. Depending on your skills, that may take you an entire weekend, especially if you don't have help.
Trust us on this one. If you rush to get your benchwork built and track laid and wired all in one weekend, you will likely spend the next three weekends troubleshooting problems.

Ha ha... not to many of us Corey that use the E. No worries guys, i have been planning this for 6 months and definitely taking my time. My enthusiasm is just to be getting started. Yes i hope to be able to go this next weekend to get the first supplies for the bench work, not sure if i will get it started but definitely the following weekend. I plan on taking a while to work the track plan out with mock ups of structures and will not permanently lay track down until have it the way i want it and it's performing flawlessly. In the meantime i can work on structures and vehicles. I also have another hobby.... caricature woodcarving and i have a show and competition for this fall to ready for so definitely will not be slamming this together.
Also i do have pretty good woodworking skills and have built kitchens etc. and am pretty much a fanatic when it comes doing things the right way.
