Background Scenes
Posted by richhotrain on Monday, December 27, 2010 5:23 AM

I am in the process of building four background buildings that I will install on a 2' x 4' Masonite backdrop at one end of my layout.  These four background buildings are 6 story to 9 story brick buildings that were typically built around the turn of the last century and shortly thereafter.  They could be found in large urban areas and were used to house small manufacturing  operations.

Since there are only four buildings, I would like to find a background scene consisting of an urban downtown area (e.g. Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, or the like) that would be representative of the 1950s.  So, the background scene would be mostly large brick downtown buildings from that period.

Can someone suggest a source for these background scenes?  I looked at the Walthers web site, but their offerings are minimal.

Grampys,

Very nice layout shot including the background.

Thanks for the links, guys, interesting stuff.

Some of those web sites are difficult to navigate but I get the idea.  It is a little hard to find a 1940s or 1950s large city downtown scene, especially one suited to my layout.

Any other ideas out there?
