Building a Downtown Deco kit?
Posted by MisterBeasley on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 7:53 AM

I'm thinking of getting a Downtown Deco kit to fill a particular space on my layout.  Since I've never built one of these, I was wondering if anyone has any tips, warnings, etc?  Pics are nice, too, of course.  Thanks.

What you get is plain, white, unpainted Hydrocal castings.  A lot of filing and trimming of the corners is necessary to insure they are square.  Clamping of the corners while the adhesive sets is also highly advisable.  I used Goop or yellow carpenter's glue to assemble mine.  A seal coat before painting helps because the Hydrocal will soak up a lot of paint.
