Tracking Progress
Posted by wm3798 on Thursday, May 6, 2010 7:39 PM

I've begun working on the expansion and reconstruction of my layout, and started a blog to allow you to play along at home.

I hope you find it informative...

 Lee -

I hope you will occasionally post a little reminder in this thread (or in the WPF thread) as you have significant updates - this is definitely one build I would love to see more of as it progresses!

I love the first pics of your Elkins yard area -  the control in the fascia at the embankment for the road overpass is a neat idea, and the two pictures showing the area past the window and the the engine house and the double ended siding/AD-track with the crossover under the road bridge at Elkins just looks great!

Got any pics showing the scene from the road overpass towards the end of the single ended yard tracks and from the road overpass towards the Kerens crossover?

I also like the pics of your unusual "fit under sloping attic roof" helix and your balloon staging loops - this layout is going to be superb one!

 Smile,
 Stein, maybe drooling a _little_ ... :-)

 Thanks, Stein.

Here's another look at the bridge, with a little more detail.

This is looking west, with the turnout in the foreground being the west end of Kerens.  I have been working on painting the tracks and wiring this section, so it's not in place to take an updated photo yet.  But the track undulates a bit, so the crossover is comprised of two left hand switches, with the straight route creating the crossover.  I'm hoping to make some progress on this over the weekend.  Maybe by Sunday night photo fun, I'll have some updates.

Here's a closer look at the bridge itself:

I had to cut a notch in it to wrap it around the window trim.  I'll be adding a masonite skyboard to cover the bead board paneling and provide a backdrop for Elkins.  You can see the crossover just beyond the bridge.  Looking the other way, here's the yard prior to the application of scenery:

And the approaches:

The last shot shows the whole assembly, and highlights the lift out that is required for the window.  My house is over 100 years old, so I have to be able to get to the window to put in the air conditioner!

If you click on the "follow" button, you'll be alerted to any updates that get posted to the blog.

Thank you for the extra pictures, and for the tip on how to follow the blog -  I am now one of your blog followers.

Looking forward to seeing more pictures of this layout!

Smile,
Stein
