Turntable drawings
Posted by GMILL47 on Monday, February 15, 2010 9:20 PM

Have there been any drawings of a larger (say 130 foot) prototype turntable in MR?  I could swear I have seen them but none show up in my searches on this site.

Go to Walthers and look up their 130' T/T they have PDF file instructions etc. maybe they will have what your looking for.

Just my 2 cents worth, I spent the rest on trains. If you choked a Smurf what color would he turn?

Go to the bottom of this page and see 'index of magazines' to search for an article/drawing.  It's a great tool that EVERYONE should learn to use.

Google is good! Yahoo is my friend.

Over the years, MR and RMC have had many articles about many types and sizes of turtables.  The magazine index link at the bottom can give reerences to the particular issues, month, year, and article title.  It might take a bit more than just entering turntables, though.  I saw they had 199 hits from 1933 on, but I didn't notice the article, or series of articles, for a large turntable with an electro-mechanical indexing system that was part of the 1950s Great South Pass project layout.  Then, there is the fun of trying to locate the given issue, or someone who has the issue and would be willing to send a copy.

It would be nice if the model railroad magaines had a plan servce the way the model airplane and model boat mags have to make some of these items easily available (of course, for a price.)

Photocopies of any prototype drawings from out-of-print issues of Model Railroader may be ordered (for a price, of course) on this Web site – go to "Our Store" – or by e-mail to customerservice@kalmbach.com. NMRA members can order photocopies of drawings from other publishers' magazines from the NMRA's Kalmbach Memorial Library collection. Go to nmra.org. for more information on that service.

How do you know what drawings you can order? Click on "Index of magazines" at the bottom of this page.

Good hunting,
