Plywood does move somewhat with humidity changes; although not nearly as much as solid wood. A 9' run might move as much as a 1/4' over dry to very humid conditions. Add to this the temperature expansion/contraction of metal rail; and you could have a combination that would cause the problem. I suspect that the glue you used is really the root of the problem. Regular white glue seems to work better and the caulk will be even better yet. Cut a couple of gaps in the straight sections and re glue with regular white clue or caulk.
