In Need Of Help!! I need a Layout Idea for an 8'x8' space. Pennsylvania railroad theme.

Hi,

I moved from having a full size basement and now i am down to a simple 8x8 space. Trying to find a plan for a room this size is not easy.  Im trying to come up with a plan that would maybe have a double track mainline around the walls with some switching hopefully.  I know with o scale i am very limited but dont want to rule out possibilities.  I am also planning to use gargraves track because i am just not attracted to commercial snap track.  I could use any ideas anyone has or could come up with. Im sure anyone can understand the withdraws someone has when you go along time without running trains.  I am scared to start or try something because time around my house is sometimes scarce. Help me please!!

I mapped my room and then made circle templates of the minimum mainline radius (scale sized to the map) that I wanted to use, then I manipulated them around until I got the longest mainline. It didn't take too long to figure out that way.

From there you've got the basis.  Now all you need to do is figure out the theme, era, and so on and the buisinesses will become clearer.  They will determine your sidings.

O scale in that space is going to be tough though.  It's going to be difficult to keep away from that toylike look, if that what you want.

There are some O Scale shelf layouts in the recent "2008 Great Model Railroads" that could provide some larger scale planning ideas for you.

P.S.:  The fact that you like the Pennsy and know PSU's Happy Valley is a great start!
