XTrakCad won't work
Posted by L Cowan on Sunday, October 28, 2007 1:09 PM

Ok Gang, I have been devouring this forum for some time now as I have tried to get my layout set in my mind. I have tryed RTS for designing the layout but it was very unsatisifactory. I have just downloaded XTRAKCAD 4.0.1 but it won't work. I am working in HO and can not get any track or switch information to load, it shows up in the parameters. Did I get a bad download or am I just not seeing something? Your help will be greatly appreciated as I would like to start the layout design portion after reading the bit from Space Mouse.

Try this, if it doesn't work please describe the probelm a bit more specifically thatn 'it doesn't work' Smile [:)]

Set your layout scale to HO, under Options, Layout.

Go to Files, Parameter Files.

Select Browse.

You should only have to go down one level to the params directory.

Then comes the part that seems a bit off, but fortunately you only need to do it once.  The parameter files are supposed to be loaded by default, but for some reason they are not.  I think there is a way to rememdy this, but for now....

Look through the names for the ones you want, they'll have HO as part of the name.  Select the ones you want one at a time.  Now they should be loaded.

thank you Jeff, that got it working. I must not have seen it or something.

Thank you to the forum, as always a great group of people. As I get things going I will post track plans etc. and be very open for help. I haven't done this since the 60's. a lot is new. I already have a Digitrax system and some locos but nothing to run on yet except 6 feet of track.
