I am fairly new to model railroading after recently retiring.
I model in HO scale and am in the process of building an around the walls shelf layout to recreate an industrial area switching layout loosely based on the Detroit Terminal Railroad in the east side of Detroit in 1949. I have a lift out bridge across the doorway for those less nimble than myself or to allow me in and out of the layout room as I get older.
My layout room is 14x11 and has a yard feed coming into an industrial area with a dozen industries.
I used PECO code 100 track and PECO small radius switches. My minimum radius of curves is 22" and the layout is perfectly level. The only elevation is a coal dock where two hoppers can be spotted to dump to coal piles below for conveyor transfer to dump trucks.
My DCC system is NCE PowerCab with a 5 amp smart booster. I also am using the NCE USB card for access to JMRI on my laptop. I installed a DPDT switch that allows me to use my DCC system or a DC power pack as I have lots of older engines that do not yet have decoders.
I am a member of the NMRA and a member of the Stoney Creek Model Railroad Club in southeast Michigan.
