Matt Van Hattem is a senior editor for TRAINS Magazine, responsible for the Map of the Month, and editing and photo selection for feature articles, and the Passenger column. Matt has been a TRAINS reader since high school (his parents bought him his first subscription as a birthday present). After spending nine years working for publishing houses in New York (and learning to navigate the subway system), Matt joined the TRAINS staff in 2001. He enjoys travel, photography, and watching reruns of The Sopranos, noting that several of the show's signature mob hits took place in spots where he once photographed Conrail freights.
