Kathy Keane is a biologist and ornithologist with special expertise in endangered and threatened bird species, including the California least tern, western snowy plover, and Belding’s savannah sparrow. Since 1995, she has owned Keane Biological Consulting (KBC), a consortium of biological subcontractors with a diversity of experience conducting surveys for plant and wildlife species throughout Southern California. KBC assists its clients in compliance with federal, state and local laws protecting biological resources. Kathy’s education includes an undergraduate degree from Cornell University and a master’s degree in zoology from California State University in Long Beach. She has conducted and overseen all types of biological surveys, research and monitoring, and numerous surveys for the presence of nesting birds for Southern California Edison, Metropolitan Water District, City of Long Beach and Army Corps of Engineers. She managed and participated in monitoring of nesting birds for portions of the Alameda Corridor Rail Project and has monitored nesting by the endangered California Least Tern at the southern end of the Alameda Corridor at the Port of Los Angeles for over 20 years. She coordinated and participated in 20 two-day bird surveys as part of biological baseline surveys for the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
