A Machu Picchu day trip typically begins with an early morning pick-up at your Cusco hotel. By 6:00 am, you would be on your way via private transport to the train station located in Ollantaytambo village. The road trip will take around two hours to complete. Once you arrive at the station, head to the front desk to present your train ticket and check-in any bags you may have brought with you. After boarding the train, we have a two-hour ride past the majestic Urubamba Valley, nestled between the Andes mountains. The Machu Picchu day trip continues when we arrive at Machu Picchu Pueblo, also known as Aguas Calientes town. We briskly walk through this tiny village and finally board the tourist bus to take us to the Machu Picchu entrance. The drive up the winding mountain takes less than 30 minutes and offers beautiful views of the surrounding cloud forest valleys.
Once we arrive at the main gate, we enter and start the Machu Picchu hike with our group. We'll see the temple of the sun, the temple of the condor, the temple of the three windows, the Inca prisons, and the Inca's bathhouse, among other important landmarks in the complex.
The tour runs for two and a half hours and ends back at the main entrance. We then return to the town below and board the return train to Cusco, where we end the Machu Picchu day trip.
