After a hiatus of some 25 years, I got back into (HO) model railroading about 25 years ago. Started with the B&O simply because I love the color scheme. Now that I've brought the hobby to our 4th home in 25 years, with the help of some good friends I'm redesigning it to be a real operational (group) layout. Since I grew up near Boston, I'm shifting to modeling New England road names in the main 12'9" x 28' room. The alcove at the bottom of the stairs will be the future home of a port scene for Portland, ME. The double track helix will move under stairs, with the layout going through the wall to get in and out for the lower and upper levels. Eventually, I hope to expand to the adjoining 12' x 20' room with two 30" wide modules that will include a coal mine operation for the B&O to ship needed coal to Albany, NY where the Boston and Albany can transfer it to industries in New England.
I run Digitrax w/ infrared; hope to upgrade to radio controlled at some point. I use Digitrax electronics for Tortoise motor turnout control along with double pole double throw center off toggle switches mounted under the front edge of the table.
My main love over the years has been building structures. I have three South River Modelworks buildings completed with a fourth waiting for me, along with the FOS Red Hook Wharf complex.
