Trestle Bents
Posted by hackmo15 on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 8:31 PM

Hey Everyone,

I've finally gotten my track laid and run trains on the Obsidian Scenic Railway. I am having loads of fun. I have gotten to the details protion of my project and am trying to build trestle bents to replace the 2x4's holding up my track. I've tried several different methods to build these and haven't come up with a good one yet. Any suggestions on jigs for trestle bents would be very helpful.

All your other advice was very helpful.

Thanks,

Jon

Jon mate, get yourself a Kalmbach book called "Model railroad Bridges and Trestles" you will know all about bridges and trestles once you have read that. Also in the same book is several articles by Harold Russel, he really knows his onions i can tell you. I think he is a civil engineer and actually designed real bridges for a living.

If you think it through though, you will realise that everyone and his dog has trestles, this is why i went for turn of the century concrete (cement) constructions, such as concrete bridges and viaducts instead.
