I also run 1:29 and I've used six inches (15 cm) as my standard for straights. Others may give you a different number. Curves should be based on you're longest piece of rolling stock.

I'm 7.5 to 8" o.c. for longer cars and visitors who run wider stuff.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

I got 7" for straights, and Marty's numbers for curves. Overhang on long cars can be a killer.

If you are tight for space, get a couple of intermodals or USAT streamliners to check!

Just to double check as I'm about to start my layout- this spring, are you saying on parallel tracks from center (centre) to center of tracks to space about 6-7 on straits and about 9 on curves, also how much does that change come into play with larger diameter curves ( I hope to use a min of about 20' but I havent spent the time outside yet to see if that will work in a couple places- I may have to go much tighter for it to work) I plan to run "modern" equipment-with possiblity of the largest avail equipment on the layout.

actually as a side note, I hope to convert to all body mount couplers, because I plan to operate with switching etc and based on my HO experience body mounted couplers is a must. what diameter curves is needed on larger equipment to do that.
