The ultimate in live steam garden railroading....coal fired locomotive

The fun has begun.  The two flue tubes are 10mm internal diameter and 1mm thick, set low in the boiler.  The firebox copper thickness is 2mm,  Under the sand box on the Billy/Elke is the goodall valve to replenish boiler water.  Safety valve is in the normal location as on the gas fired Billy boiler.   This is just set together in the pic, so nothing is aligned or fastened down, so things are a bit cockeyed.  This is as far as the original owner got the project.  I painted the frame, boiler wrapper, boiler back head and am starting chassis assembly tonight.  Going with an all black with red frame Austrian/German look to suit my LGB rolling stock.  If profit sharing is good(I had lots of down weeks last year) then I will order one of the 2 axle tender kits from Roundhouse, along with a few other bits and bobs.

New pic time, progress is being made.  By the time the missing parts are shipped to me, I will be ready to light a fire in her.

Basic loco is now mostly complete.  Waiting on a couple missing parts to ship to me from the UK before I can steam her up for the first time.  I had some nice etched O&K builders plates left over from another project, so they finaly got used.  Still need to get etched number and name plates, lantern for the front, then a matching tender from Roundhouse to carry the fuel.

First successful run on coal today.  Going to try on the railway tomorrow as it will be in the 50's tomorrow afternoon.  Still more to do, fit RC, front lantern, build the tender and put a wood floor in the cab.  All in good time.   Enjoy!

Thanks guys, hopefully tomorrow I will have some video from a run on the railway.  Guy its coming in the morning to finish fixing my Jeep, then it will be time to run trains hopefully.  I cleaned her all up, swept the flue tubes.  Need a bit more lamp oil on my start up charcoal, so that got done as well.

Running on the railway today, still fine tuning my coal firing abilites, but got a good run out of her today.  Tender is on order, as is the Slomo inertia device.  I also got myself a brand new gas fired Billy from Roundhouse with my yearly profit sharing check from my employer.  Enjoy!
