<p>WHen greybeards start to roll past my front door I know then that we are all a-fixing to stand between perdition and the deep blue sea.</p><p>Otherwise I dont worry about it. If winds are supposed to get above 100, we usually relocate elsewhere in the mountains for a few days. After all the building code says the house needs to withstand 80 mph gust for 3 seconds... anything over that becomes an insurance problem.</p><p>Hurricanes and Noreasters are a staple of life where I grew up and it is not a problem. Katrina gave us a feeder band that ripped our area for 30 minutes and I sware that rain was "Upwards", not sideways or down.</p><p>Now the elders still tell stories about storms past with a gleam in thier eyes and try to scare the wee ones with stories of shrieking wind and tearing roofs.</p><p>It's the tornados and the scream of the air raid siren that gets us moving with some haste.</p><p>Let it rain, let it blow and the girls thier cradle blankets to tear. =)</p>
