^ Ha! The same folks who insist that I grew up in "Rully," North Carolina, no doubt.

LOL, the Chief doesn't call Roseville Mayberry - we Northerners do!

What does Mount Airy have to say about that, my friend? And a Happy New Year to you!

Love that show. I've thought of it - actually researched kitbashing various Lionel buildings - the barber shop, et al.

The town the supposedly based the show on was actually Mt. Airy, N.C. It was near the Virginia border somewhat west of Winston-Salem and I heard they erected a statue of Andy and Barney there.

Very cool idea!  Welcome!  I thought of doing one with the Shady Rest, Drucker's store, and the Douglas (old Haney) place for a while....  Might still do it!

Back in my HO scale days, I strongly considered modeling a fictional Southern Railway branch that was to be called the "Mayberry & Mt. Pilot." The Southern (or ACL or Seaboard) would be more logical than the UP for a fictional North Carolina town. I always thought it would be fun to model Floyd's barber shop, the Sheriff's office, and Aunt Bea's house. Sounds like you are way ahead of my old plans. Good luck with your future layout and share some pictures with us.

I would love to see someone elses layout if they are building the town of Mayberry.  Unfortunately mine is in the attic in boxes.  Hope to get it out and placed onto a new layout when I build a new shop this year.  Got a grandson coming in May so I have to get it going for him.  If you guys ever noticed, the trains used on the Mayberry show were Union Pacific (I guess since it was filmed in California and they thought no one would notice) so I have a full set of UP trains that ran on my tracks.  I have most of the town built, the courthouse with barber shop and grocery, Andy's house, Wally's Filling Station and a lot of other buildings on the show.  Thanks, this is my first posting and am ready to get back into the hobby.  bartmcneill@yahoo.com
