Lionel Union Pacific steam engine
Posted by Roger Carp on Thursday, January 6, 2022 11:22 AM

Hi everyone,

A longtime reader without access to a computer has requested help with a Lionel steam engine he is thinking about buying.

We are talking about the no. 6-82806 painted black. Has anyone bought one? How does it operate? Does it pull well? Any thoughts on the details? The more anyone can say, the more we can help this O gauge operator.

Many thanks and happy new year!

Hi Roger!

This is from the Lionel website.

http://www.lionel.com/products/union-pacific-fef-3-844-6-82806/

I seem to recall Bob Keller did an absolutely glowing review of this model when it came out.  If I really  remember correctly at the time Bob called it the best thing Lionel's ever done.

Aside from that I have no personal experience with the model.

Roger,

Thank you for posting...so here is more to the story after I did some more research:

In 2008-2009, Lionel came out with the UP Steam Locomotive 844 FEF-3 4-8-4 #11131 and Classic Toy Train did a fantastic review of the engine itself in the September 2008 issue. In 2015, Lionel again comes out with the same engine but with a new part number of #682806 (including a few "paint" variations and model numbers totaling 6 I think).

So my question then...Is just how do the two types, #11131 (the 2008 version) and #682806 (the 2015 version) differ? I know there is a BIG price difference but what is the rest of the story between these two engines?

Thank You.
