Good evening all,
Sunday was a great day! Got several autographs and saw a good race. Conor Daly got a top ten for AJ and we saw the pass for tenth right in front of us! Monday was a relaxing drive across southern NY.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
RT - two holer of course! Nothing but the best for Da Chief!
Sturg - happy 39th to you and the missus!
Regards, Roy
Good Afternoon from sunny 87°F & 38% humidity Southern Ohio,
It was a good weekend on Stockham Lane. Rained a lot on Friday but I was doing inside stuff. I re-keyed all the locks on the house and garage. It seemed like each door was a different brand but all had the same type of cylinder so once the locks were apart they were easy to re-key. Saturday was full tilt grass cutting attack. We reclaimed more overgrown area, but there is still more to do. In the evening after Mass, my bride and I celebrated our 39th Wedding Anniversary. She made tomato pie, one of my favorite dishes. Sunday was Mass at 9 am and 11:30 then a football team fund raiser. A little more grass cutting and another great meal made by my bride. On the train front I finally won an All Aboard Crossover Panel on ebay at a price I was comfortable with paying. It’s taken the better part of a year, and a piece of track will need repaired but it is an easy fix. I think I’m going to set up the All Aboard panels in the soon to be dedicated train room.
Don – Happy Birthday
Roy – I thought it would be a Jonny-on-the-spot too!
Fife – Stopping can sometimes be the hard part
Chief – Once in the dry is a turning point and a little less stress
Time to get ready for turnover
May God bless
Jim
dougdagrump wrmcclellan ChiefEagles Plumbing contractor just did walk around. Be here tomorrow or Wed. We are on a roll. How much planning and how long does it take to drop a porta-potty? It takes some time to carve the Half Moon in the door, not to mention digging a new pit. Howdee Peeps ! Not much going on here. Not allowed to do much of anything otherwise the BetterHalf will be giving me the skunk eye. Following my daily PT regimen for the "trapezious" muscle in the back, progress seems to be awfully slow. Got a surgical consult this Wednesday for a different issue, want to get in and get it done. Gettin' old ain't for sissies ! Good morning all!
Well the weather guys came through. It only got to 91 here yesterday. Low humidity and nice temps this am. Nice! 93 today and 88 tomorrow! Maybe some rain.
Don!
Chief - also saw the bomb sniffing dog funeral. They had a vet on the restored LST to put him down. Made me cry - reminded me of putting our dog down last year. Glad the addition is dryed in!
Buckeye is hard at work making sure SS is ready for him!
Fife - when do you get "cab" certified? "16 tons, and what do you get..."!
Shake & Bake!!!
Roy - From time to time; yep.
Chief - 'Tis nice to have one day off...
Where is Buckeye???? Fishing along the Upper Peninsula?
Morning. Cooler. Mow this AM. Dr. at little after noon. Special Town Board meeting called by two drama queens.
Today is Shake and Bake's birthday. Wished him a happy birthday little after midnight eastern time. He had 3 hours to go at his time zone. Wasn't going to sit up and wait.
Have a great week ahead.
The Ioway is back. Sounds good out there. BTW: we have a local Church that has a food pantry. They opened a clothes closet. Gives away clothes. We donate to that as other organizations sell them. Know the Golden Knights will miss you. Just saw on news where a Marine lab [bomb sniffer] was "retired" due to bone cancer. Gave him the same parade and burial as a Veteran. That was good.
Now if we could get that old Dr. in South Ga. to pop up.
Additon and all has new shingled roof. All buildings on the lot except big shelter [metal roof there].
Cooler and less humidity. Also some breeze.
Trying to take a day off. Got home at 10 last night. Earlier, had a 3 hour Church thing honoring black ladies over 95.
Mow tomorrow.
Have a good one.
Morning all!
82 at 10 am and only to hit 91 today according to the pundits. We'll see. Still saying low 90's for the next 7 days. Norm is 96/97 this time of year.
Fife - looks like you are fulfilling the dream - chief cook and bottle washer!
Dennis - good luck with space for the slot car track!
Mornin' boys. Clear and 55 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Some random fifeythoughts.
Add conductor hat. Crew was excited for me last night. All went well.
If Ravens sign Colin K, Fifey will root for lionroar88's team.
Good luck on the healin' Banksie.
Jonadel, go ahead and rent a 10 yard dumpster.
My new S gauge truss bridge is for the AF line that will span the Old Town area of my layout. Anyone need info on the vendor, drop me a PM.
Hope to get to the Garrett County Fair this week.
Sad to see Blaney leave the 21.

Hello there,
been less than a week and it's really old already. Did sleep better last night.
Jon.....come back more often. I have bought a couple things on Craigslist but never sold. All ways cautious.
RT.......never heard that about Goodwill. I do have a problem with the Salvation Army. Not going there now.
Off to bed.
Prayers for those in need

A very good day. Trip went well to where we are staying. Did some shopping in Seville, Ohio. Daughter coached alums to first victory ever over varsity!!! 3-2! Yes! AJ's team gave me something to cheer about as Daly is starting 11th tomorrow. Best start of season. I hope everyone has a good day.
Afternoon all!
Partly sunny and 91. 95/96 today and then tomorrow starts a predicted 7 days of below normal temps - normal being 95/96. Below normal this year for 100 or greater days. But summer ain't over yet.
Chief - glad you got a roof for the new attached train room.
Jon - cleaned out garage - nice eh?
Banks - glad the healing is going well!
Jon from all I have read Goodwill is a for profit company. Nothing goes to charity. Salvation Army or Purple Hearts is a better choice

I do enjoy reading about everyone's daily happenings but keeping up is not easy. We have no thoughts about moving any time soon but we are trying hard to delete what we no longer use, but oh buddy, that takes time! Sharyl was gone last week for four nights and five days so I made a committment to purge the garage. We have a large and deep two car garage where I keep all of my tools and work bench and I do enjoy hanging out in it. It's below our living room and below grade on the north and west side, nice and cool in the summer and never freezes in the winter.
I did sell my motorcycle so that really opened up a huge amount of space. Let's just say that the "garage make over" has taken all of this week and it looks fantastic. Sharyl really helped big time and I appreciated her help, we now need to load the trailer and make a dump run next week.
One big surprise is that I have sold quite a bit of "stuff" on Craig's list. I was a bit nervous to use that list but our oldest son has used it successfully and he gave me some great tips. So far so good but it still makes me nervous. We still donate quite a bit to Goodwill stores and that I like.
Can't believe that August is almost here, wish winter would go as fast as summer. Hope all is well with everyone.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Morning. Cloudy. Had some big T'storms roll through Late yesterday. New roof on all. New addition, older part of house and garage. Garage done in a couple of T'storms. Guys worked through the rain and lightning. Nothing leaked due to new "paper" which is a rubber like stuff. Once down, protects. Shingles over that.
House is a mess. OSB board over windows where a door will be and a walk through. Office window gone and OSB board. That will be drywalled in. Other side is a new walk-in closet. Dirt and then mud. Have to move vehicles early every morning as work trucks block everything. BURR. Electrical being moved to new meter base. All this while busy Mayor stuff.
Got a Mayor thing at noon at local Church. Something all the time. Spent most of yesterday at loccal elementary school dooing things with kids.
Hope all hav a good weekend.
Hello there, TGIF!!!!!
Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.
Been an interesting week. Hired a driver (Mrs) to take me to the office and visit a job site. Did some things that could have been put off but I feel a lot better knowing it's done. My driver had no rest yesterday till my desk got a long over due cleaning. The cleaning crew has standing instructions my desk and print tables are off limits. Took me days to figure things out the one and only time they cleaned and organized. Probably spent 12 hours working this week.
Shoulder feeling better than I expected . It would be easy to over do and screw it up. Been taking the prescribed pain pills more for a sleep aid. Ibuprofen in the day time.
John bummer on the maters. Son scattered a couple boxes of moth balls in the garden. Seems to be working so far and smells good too....Daughter picked 2 grocery bags of green beans and some green peppers today Got some zucchini and egg plant too. A handful of maters are turning.
Tonight is the 1st back in bed. Got some extra pillows to keep me off the shoulder. Sleeping on the recliner wasn't getting it. The pain pills are kicking in.
Night all.
Evening all!
Hot today at 101. Grilled out and it was 103 under the back porch. Cooler tomorrow at 96.
Ray - I forgot to mention a while back I also have the phantom itching. Back right shoulder and my upper thighs. Argh. Great ride your friend related about Cheyenne and Grand Canyon rides. Hope you get the BP meds back under control Soon.
Fife - sounds like you are having fun? And whatcha gonna do with the S scale bridge?
Mike C - safe travels!
Anj - so 4th times the charm?
Busy day at work, but good. Good weather for walk. Mowed yard with big mower in about an hour and a half. Not bad. MR and Trains came today, which is good timing for the trip. Will be on the road for the next week and a half. THIS will be vacation. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good afternoon all, I had a reaction to some BP meds I was taking. It caused my feet and ankles to swell up. I can hardly get my shoes on now. They put me on a new BP drug today which is supposed to be better and will not cause swelling. The whole thing started when my dermatologist thought that my BP meds might be causing me to itch. Well, there was no connection and all the switch did was create new problems. Sometimes it is better to leave well enough alone. The weather continues to be seasonally hot here and therefore the garage is too hot to run trains in the day time. It gets up to about 100 degrees in there during the day and takes a long time to cool off at night. Early morning is the only good time to go in there. I have been thinking about selling off all but a few favorite trains and thin things out a little. I know a guy who will handle it on consignment for 15%. Thats not bad and saves me all the headaches of dealing with E Bay etc. Went out to breakfast today with my train buddies. Larry just got back from riding the Union Pacific Cheyenne Rodeo special from Denver to Cheyenne with the number 844 steam engine. He said he also rode the Grand Canyon Railroad on the way home. He said it is all diesel now and all streamlined air conditioned cars with domes on some. They still run the steamer on special occasions. He said the reason they gave for not running steam on a regular basis was the lack of a good water supply at the rim of the canyon. They would have to spot water cars there I suppose. He said even in Williams that there is a water problem too. We have a TTOS picnic coming up next month at the Los Angeles Live Steamer venue in Griffith Park. Walt Disney's barn is located there too and has things inside to see. It came from Walt's backyard railroad before he built Disneyland. It was a gift from his daughter Dianne Disney.
Have a good evening.
Ray

Hey yo.....
Just checking in here. Been a wild week, not been to bed before midnight most nights and back here at 8 AM, mix in an hour commute one way, yeah, real shortage of nappy time...
Should be ok this weekend, it seems its gonna be a wash out, so I'll be replaceing the collector gasket - yes again - on the road runner, but this time with aluminum not cardboard. Great reviews saying its PERMANENT.....3 time in 1 year is enough. Need to trim my 2 hedges in the back as well. AH home ownership...
Hope y'all been ok, I'm just working and trying to sleep. Need a break and a change, hopefully soon. Haven't had any 2 wheel therapy since fathers day, very sad.
Off and running again. Be back when time allows.
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Very busy day at work. Got soaked during walk at noon. Very damp afternoon. Had nice visit with old high school friend tonight and his wife. I hope everyone has a good day.
Evenin' boys. Tired and achey tonight. Did normal duties on the daily train, then got "drafted" into brakeman duty across the river for 3 hours. Must've drank a gallon of icetea when I hit the kitchen door. And waitin' at my door was a brand new handmade 3 ft long S gauge truss bridge, that I ordered from a feller in Buffalo, NY. Best $40 bucks I ever spent. Ssshhooooweeeettt.....
Good news it only got to 98 here today. Front is on its way - tomorrow night. Bring it!
Got signed up for Medicare today! Starts in Oct. Can't wait
News tonight said GE is moving some or all locomotive production (I did not understand the way they said this) to Ft Worth from PA. Reopening a plant here that closed recently and rehiring 225.
Revised forecast says it will hit 101 today and tomorrow. Then a cool front hits Sat and possibly low to mid 90's next week. We'll see.
Fife - hope the pic-a-nic went well and no better-than-average-bears showed up.
Mike C - first time for such a positive work report - hope it holds!
Dennis - I have noticed if you go a few days without checking in it makes you log back in. Used to not do that unless you went for a couple of weeks. Good to hear from ya!
Sturg - 50's -nice Sleeping weather! for your MIL! Hope the quilt does well at the fair. There was a big news report last night about a person, maybe a 13 yr old, getting killed on a swing ride yesterday at the Ohio St Fair. The chairs came loose? Ohio governor shut all the rides down for inspection.
Busy day at work. Not quiet, but a good noisy. Lots of interesting projects coming down the pike, some may even may make it worth going to work! Feds have totally thrown another monkey wrench into one project. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well, the feds are like that. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Oh well, I can just laugh when it fails miserably. Went to see Spiderman tonight. New guy is no Toby Maguire, but he is serviceable. Having Iron Man and Captain America make appearances helped. Movie is way too long. Got a haircut as well. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Afternoon from sunny 77°F & 65% humidity Southern Ohio,
It is really nice out today. Last night before bed we went around and opened all the windows and with the night time temps dropping into the 50’s it felt GREAT!
Nights like last night re-inforce our desire to install a whole house fan similar to what we had in our old house and may have this project bump up toward the top of the Honey Do list. I did get the inside of a couple closets spot painted and collecting information on a recirculating pump that needs replaced last night.
My bride’s mom is stable and they are not really sure what is going on with her heart so they are going to run some tests today. This puts a little stress on my bride because she is going to State Fair in Columbus today with Felicity and her quilt.
Mike – The trip home had to be non-stop; but getting a chance to see faces of folks you communicate with is always neat experience.
Fife – The admin duties are the most boring I agree.
Lunch time about over, may God bless
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 57 along the Patterson Creek cut-off (actually saw my breath while getting the trash out to curb). FifeMax just chased two big does from the back of "his" property. He better leave Wifey's hummingbirds alone.
Company picnic today. Still have to go to station 4th floor to tend to some admin duties before hand (Phish, this is the non-fun part of rr-ing). Wifey is looking forward to putting faces to all the names I mention (she has already met big boss man).
Pretty busy today working on last projects for work before retiring. Also had to call Direct TV to get them to explain a billing issue I did not understand. They checked and were able to explain it Clearly. I would have never figured it out. Then I had to speak to Norton about their antivirus packages. They told me there is a newer package called Norton System Protection which is half the price of the older Norton Internet Security. So I signed up and they had a 40% off sign on bonus. Nice.
Chief - so you said roof on the addition was to be Wed or so. So they cut an opening before having the new area covered? Does it have a temporary cover?
Ray - good to hear from you. The private car trip sounds pretty cool! Good luck with the tomato plant. I love the cherry tomatos - make a good snack off the plant!
Mike C - glad you are continuing to improve!
Stur-fish, if you came back I-74, you were within 2 miles of my place. Sorry to have missed you, but perhaps for the best as you would not want what we had. Work was busy but quiet again today. Finished trimming tonight and clearing sidewalks of weeds with trimmer. Feeling better today, but throat is scratchy tonight. Fortunately I get to rest the next 2 days before prepping for Mid-Ohio and trip east. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good afternoon all, just checking in. It has been a while since I checked the coffee pot. Doug, sorry for your loss of club members in San Diego. I have just been attending to my ailments lately. Nothing exciting going on. My friend Larry is back in Denver riding the U.P. Cheyenne rodeo train to and from the latter place powered by the U.P. 844 steam engine. I may have mentioned it already but I'm going on a private car trip up the California coast this fall to and from San Luis Obispo. Trip is to celebrate retirement of a close friend on the U.P. Chief, sorry to hear that the squirrels are having their way with the tomatoes. Time to feed those pesky things some soft lead. A neighbor across the street gave me a cherry tomato plant in a pot. It is bearing fruit now. I leave it in the sun and give it water every day but maybe I'm giving too much of one or the other. I had an in the ground plant in this same location though and it did well. Have a good week all,
Good Afternoon from sunny 70°F & 58% humidity Southern Ohio,
It is very pleasant outside today. Part of me wishes I were at home working! My last check in and post was last Thursday. My bride and I went to Indianapolis over the weekend for a convention. The judging went well for the Girls and their 4-H projects. The oldest Felicity won 1st place with her quilt, and the youngest Kalie won first place with her artwork. Both will be going to the Ohio State fair later this week, unfortunately not on the same day so two trips to Columbus. Bride’s mother’s heart is acting up again and she spent the day with her in the hospital. The doctors are working out the options. MIL is 88 and generally speaking in good health.
Banks – I’m glad your surgery went well. 9 weeks for the broilers is about right. There are days when you can almost see them grow. The cooler weather helps with the weight gains.
Fife – It sounds like you are having a blast!
Chief – can you seal off the addition with a tarp or anything to keep the dust from the finished house?
Lunchbreak over and time to go
Morning all. 96/48=106 Tomorrow cooler. High 80's. Then back up. Going to farms tomorrow. Got Grady hired to help cut shooting lane.
Big hole in dinning room wall. Walk through to new den being framed. Rheumatology Dr.'s ofc. called and wanted me to go tomorrow instead of today. "No, I have already planned to go out of town Also, only day Fred can go this week. Rescheduled for next Monday. Dr. wants to confer with someone. ????? Why did they offer today if she didn't want to see me. Guess she didn't get up with other Dr. ????? Don't have arthritis. Oh well. Can't live without them. .
Morning gang,
Yesterday ended up being a pretty mild day. Did not catch the high but don't think it made much past 90 in my area. Today to get to 95/96. Nice!
Mike C - glad you are feeling better. 2 hrs in the yard is pretty strenuous!
Banks - heal quickly! Glad the surgery went well!
Fife - still impressive!
Banks
got home 'bout 6(i think)started to get my wits about around an hour ago.
Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. Not much discomfort yet. They did a nerve block that should last +/- 18 hours. that will be up 'round 6 AM. Right now right hand, arm and shoulder are numb.
Gonna get back in recliner and try to sleep.
Prayers for those in need.
Quiet day at work. I think I may be shaking this bug. Did a short walk today. Spent two hours edging and trimming. I hope everyone has a good day.
Roy - Some volunteers. Mainly hired guns.
We got a rare late July 1/2 in of rain last night. High winds prior. No damage here but it filled the pool with debris from the trees. Cleaned it out this am.
Agree the race "last night'" was a strange one. Glad Kahne took the checkered.
Mike C - glad you are feeling better!
Dougnotta - my grandfather and a cousin had CHF. My cousin made it into his 80's. As Fife says! Bring it!
Fife - interesting about the volunteers. Guess folks want a chance to work on big iron. Me - remember I need a lawn chair and a "beverage" - I will cheer the troops on!
Prayers for Banks' surgery today
The 'job' ends this week except for a few follow-on and transition tasks. They'll reclaim the co PC around the end of Aug.
Did nothing again today. Finally starting to feel better....maybe. Tried to watch taxicab race, but it drug on forever. Race ended at 9 PM. I hope everyone has a good day.
Evenin' boys. Demolition derby at Brickyard. Too much time under red flags. Strange race.
I've been working on the railroad. Odds and ends tomorrow in admin office (yep, they've got me in there too....). Great news is 1309 has her tubes and flues installed. Driving wheels are in position to go under boiler, and side rods are polished. Now I'm getting stoked (pun intended). What's cool is some of the faces showing up from across North America to work on the big engine.
Doug-notta. I'm sorry; 8 simply isn't good enough. Give me 20.
Chief - 125. No where to hide at that number. Woof.
Howdy All !
Hope everyone's weekend was fun and relaxing.
Dennis, Since I was defined as having CHF, 6 years ago, I have been the consumate label reader for sodium(salt) content. As I have been told, heaven knows how many times, where salt goes water follows which ain't good for folks with a bum ticker. I was told to stay in the 1800 to 2000 mg of sodium per day range, however I targeted 1200 mg/day so the days I exceeded that goal in the long run I could come in closer to what the doc's wanted w/o going over. With what we tend to have for lunches and snacks at the museum I have to be somewhat flexible unless I'm doing the cooking. My approach must be working since I made it past the 5 year mark, the last study I read indicated that a little less than 50% achieve that, the next goal is 8 yrs.
Some sad news for our club. In the past week and a half two of our members have passed away. Only 49 and 51 yrs old with families, far to young to leave this world.
Enuff bad news, hope all have a good week.
Prayers for all in need.
Hot and humid. 109 and 125 heat index. Weather station is in the sun due to rain gauge. Still HOT.
Been watering when not doing Mayor stuff. Trying to keep things alive. Squirrels eating up all my tomatoes. Someone said they needed the moisture due to heat and not rain. ????
Hope all OK. Banks, hang in there.
Dennis, you too.
Got another busy week ahead. Have not even had time to look at CTT.
Rooms have walls and sheeting on top. Electrician due to get things moved by Wed. so roofer can do Thursday and Friday. Then things will really move on.
Morning team!
68% humidity, 85 right now, cloudy, and might rain? Ok with me.
SJ - I was admiring that photo, NYC to boot!!
Dennis - I would love to attempt a live steam project but not sure I would ever complete it! I do make custom parts for trains for projects with the machinery I have.
Banks - good deal. Again good luck tomorrow!
Mike C - I'll bet your rest day paid off!
RT - totally agree!
Excellent NASCAR Infinity race at Indy yesterday. They made a lot of aero changes to the cars and it made the racing more competitive. A 19 yr old won against 6 NASCAR Cup drivers. Impressive. You could tell in the Martin Truex (2nd) post race interview he was not happy he could not get around the kid!
More NASCAR at Indy today!
Sun and 80s today.
Finally got a CTT to read. Page 11 has a pic from club member Bob Shaw. He has a knack for great detail.
S.J.
Did nothing today. Wife told me to stay home and rest. May try to see grandson play tomorrow. Ugh. All I did was sleep today. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hey all
Dennis I believe your DR. would agree to this statement that some of mine has made. In moderation ( in other words once in a while ) it is okay. Just don't make a daily habit of it.
Roy got to admit the pills they gave me help a lot. Also learned what motions to avoid.fifedogBanks - D'atris Would like to get up to that theme park, s/e of Altoona, before summer's end.
fifedogBanks - D'atris Would like to get up to that theme park, s/e of Altoona, before summer's end.
Fife....I'll call or text when it gets closer. Are you talking about DelGrosso's? It's aa couple of exits north of Altoona on I99. Nice little park with a new water park.
Drags rained out again. Putz'ing around the house today.
Best move on
92 at 10 am - gonna be a scorcher today - 100+ easily...
Tried to do some spray primer on some lathe parts yesterday, but is was so hot the paint was starting to dry before it hit the surface, making the surface "fuzzy". Some light sanding will be required before laying on the enamel. I am brush painting the enamel so that will be an indoor activity while watching some NASCAR today (thinking of Chuck!).
Banks - good luck with the surgery. You sure accomplished a lot with a broken wing! Anything I can do to help with the lathe reassembly just give me a shout when you get back to it!
Fife - a 2-6-6-2 really? That's a big machine! Cudos to the group running that place!
Mike C - feel better. I know it is depressing to spend a lot of time not feeling tip top.
Banks - D'atris Would like to get up to that theme park, s/e of Altoona, before summer's end.
Hello there, been another busy week.
Think i might have missed a birthday. Belated congratulations.
Don....sounds like something I might do
Rich.......good luck with your new freedom.
SubBob......bummer on the rail.
Fife.........Mrs and I are gonna be in Cumberland on the (I think) 22nd. Maybe we can get some pitza together.
Phish.....how old are the meat chickens when you kill them? Last we did some several years ago were huge by 9 weeks
Roy......I did get a 3 jaw chuck but not Stars. Found a vintage Craftsman on the Bay really reasonable. Also got the hand crank gear. Got stymied trying to get the carriage off to install it weeks ago and haven't gotten back to it. I'll be looking for advice when I do
Trying to get some stuff done before being disabled by Mondays rotator cuff surgery. With help from grandson and SisIL got some trees trimmed flowers weeded and garage rearranged to get everything in. Garden is looking better than it has in years. Deer found it the other nite despite deer repellent son put out. Topped about a 3rd of the maters. Gonna ask Mrs hairdresser friend to save hair for us. Heard that's a good repellent.
Young drag racer I mentor managed to break his ankle woods riding last weekend. A plate and 7 screws later he's on the mend. Going to his HS graduation party tomorrow PM. His racing season is over.
Grandson's season continues today if the predicted storms don't show up. Today should be race 5 but due to weather it's no.3 Even a built-in rain date was washed out.
Son made some really nice 2nd cutting hay this week, I raked it for him Wednesday evening. Most of it is spoken for. Guy is supposed to get it today.
Best get the day started.
Mornin' boys. Mostly cloudy and 71 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. I was a bachelor man for past 2 days, as Wifey was attending a funeral for her uncle back in MD. Middle Princess had her soon-to-be fiance in tow as well, and even though he met the family, he still wants to marry her. Me and FifeMax held down the fort, and didn't make any messes (ok, I did leave one of the cushions on the outdoor set in the rain...). Really starting to miss the youngest princess.
Progress continues daily on C&O 1309. Hope to have that 2-6-6-2 on the mainline in September. In the meantime, our two GP-30s continue to do yeoman service. WM 734 is off-line for its mandatory FRA breakdown and rebuild, and is waiting for the big steamer to roll out before she can be rolled into the big shop. Our shop force does awesome work.
Hot outside. Granddaughter's ballet performance was wonderful. Her eyes light up and she has a smile as big as all outdoors. Tired. Long day, but quiet day. Tired of being sick. I hope everyone has a good day.
84 already. Sun blazing. Revised forecast, 100 today.
TGIF! Fife, happy Wednesday!
SJ - I have had the same luck with Price-Pfister. PF also had great phone support when I could not locate a stem that had changed from a 10 yr old bath faucet (same faucet still manf'd today, but the stem was different). They looked in the files and found me the old style PN and I got it off Amazon.
Mike C - quiet days at work are good days!
Sun and 90 today.
Our 2 year old Delta kitchen faucet sprung a tiny leak in of all places, the spout. It has a lifetime warranty, the package arrived yesterday with a complete in box new faucet. Not much for quality but their customer service was great......This time.
Mornin' boys. Might be your Friday, but it's my Wednesday...
Had to turn off the news. OJ; who cares?
Lots of foreign power in Cumberland yesterday. Big line of UP leading a CSX freight through the Narrows, and a Canadian Pacific engine on the head end of a CSX coal drag coming off the West End. With CEO Harrison, might be the look of things to come.
TGIF!!!!!
Back to work. Quiet today. Mowed yard tonight. Less than 2 hours, which is good. Granddaughter has ballet performance after work tomorrow. Grandson has baseball game Saturday. Going to be hot. Got CTT today. Good issue. Roy, a metal lathe....Wow! First factory I worked at had people who could turn flange engine bearings on a lathe. People did craftsmen-like work. Probably a lost art now. I hope everyone has a good day.
99 today and humid so it will feel like 183...
RT & Fife - thanks. I have been giving this a lot of thought. No real plan yet.
Phish - always satisfying to have a plan work out to the best! Congrats!
Working on a refurb of a South Bend 9a metal lathe I picked up last year.

Roy as said in my other post at the other forum, I'm enjoying retirement, But Fife is correct, Find something to do that you enjoy. Don't become a couch/chair potato. I started to then got myself moving and feel better now than I have in years. ( Physically ) Mentally still messed uped
Morning all. Not a lot going on. Already did my Meds, breakfast, and bike ride.
No real train news today. Need to get into my garage as thats where my dremal is, but the door is a pain in the tail to get open most times, once in a while it's fine. But that is rare. need to either get doorway cut into it from the storage room side ( which I want to do ) or replace the door. Not sure thou if I want to replace the door or close it in. leaning towards closing it in, but need to get the walk way between the storage room and the garage side cut open first.
Hope all have a good day, Prayers for all in need.
Good Morning from sunny 77°F & 83.5% humidity Southern Ohio,
I was really busy at work yesterday. By the end of the day I was covering for 3 supervisors. We did get a lot done and one of the tasks was a job we did for the first time and had been planning for about 4 months and it went off without any issues.
The girls had their 4-H judging yesterday. They feel pretty good about how they presented their project and interviews. They will get their results this evening.
Try and stay cool and hydrated today!
Roy - Some horses aren't made for pasture... Retirement was overrated in my case. Find something to do that makes you happy.
Spent the day at home and rested. Went over for playoff game tonight. Only had 11 show up. We lost 3-0. Left leg popped again so I was pretty ineffective. Unless the "sidekick" plays again next summer, I am done. Weather is hot. I hope everyone has a good day.
97 today. 96 is normal. Next 5 days or so bring 97-99. Sunny
Spent last week and this week of my part time work finishing up two projects. These will be my final projects and then they will cut me loose. These are US Govmt filings so there will be a review period and possibly some minor follow up that will require a few additional hours. Kinda sad - 22 years at this place but time to move on! And all my time will be my own - right youz retired guys! - hmmm - can't hear you jumping in on that??
Dennis - it's tough - I have lost 3 good friends this past year.
Howwwdeee !
If I might channel the spirit of Minnie Pearl.
Had planned on being at the museum this Friday but it don't look like that's gonna happen. Sure be glad when we can get some of this "stuff" squared away.
Getting so bored here that I even started to clean up the train room.
Spent some time looking thru the J. Seacrest offerings on the Stout Auction website. So far the bids seem to be awful low but everything is 2 rail so even if you won with a low ball bid it could cost a bundle to convert to 3 rail.
Gonna be a somewhat crazy few days around Sandy Eggo. The racing season opens at Del Mar today and Comi-Con previews tonight and officially opens tomorrow. Lots of strange folks walking around town.
Gotta run, later all.
Morning all. Have DR. appointment today at 1. Took truck to dealership so they could instal the new media center. Mine was the buttons were sticking. They were just going to take it out and have the old one cleaned but it was so expensive by time they paid to have that done and shipping both ways, that they just replaced it. I got a bunch of Super O track in that needs some serious cleaning. Got 9 switches in, none worked. So there fine if you want them as manual switches ( well except two which want to go one direction once you add power to the track. ) not sure how hard it would be to repair them. I believe unless you had some special tools it would not be worth it, and even if you did not sure it would be worth it once you bought the parts.
Other than that not much going on.
Talk to you all later
Did just enough to get through day. Did nothing but sleep when I got home. Did not walk today. Hot hot hot! Thank you all for the "get better" wishes. I hope everyone has a good day.
Humid and I missed the lawn cutting guys. Gonna wait till just before sundown then cut it. 90 tomorrow so it will be today. We are city folk so property must be maintained or if a letter from the city doesn't do it, they will have the violation done and add it to your tax bill.
To clarify...example. your lawn is full of weeds, some things need painting, a gutter is loose, ect.
You get a letter with 30 days to fix or if you need more time they will work with you providing progress will be made. I hope that helps clear up my statment.
Dennis, It is abandoned now but it was the same when they still lived there two years ago. White trash.
I told the wife the first time we saw the place back in 2004 that we would not have to worry about keeping up with the neighbors.
The heat is back on for us the rest of the week with 90s and plenty of humidity.
Don't have 300 miles on the new Colorado yet but I do like it so far.
Will hit 97 today. After the warm winter our summer so far has been normal or below normal temps. Temps will hit 100 Sat/Sun and humid. Ugh. 17 is the avg for 100+ degree days. Just 2 so far.
Phish - nice about the new garage. Wish I had room to build a shop.
Chief - so that is going to be Pam's she-cave, closet? Doubles the size of the house!
Mike C - feel better soon!
Fife - sounds like a nice drive!
Had a nice call with Don B last night until the wife told me time to grill the salmon! Came out perfect!
Good Morning from a humid 85°F Southern Ohio,
Last night we signed a contract with a Contractor to frame up another garage on the property we just moved into. The place has a 24 x 24 garage but my truck (a crew cab dually) just barely fits in it and I’ve still have not moved my tools from the former home to here yet. We’re going to build a 24 x 28 next to the existing garage. They anticipate starting in mid-August.
My Bride is directing the girls and their 4-H projects and the competition is this Thursday. There is nothing quite like taking it right to the wire. The oldest girl’s quilt just needs the binding attached and the youngest is finishing up her project book and all will be done.
The Broiler chicks are growing like crazy and since the rabbit litters did not work out the animal part of the fair will be scaled back this year which is good. We’ll see what next year brings. We do want to get a breeding buck New Zealand rabbit after the fair just for meat production.
Roy – Congrats on the meeting with the appraisers.
Chief – It is exciting to be building.
Mike – Hope you’re feeling better
Break is over, may God bless
Mornin' boys. Hazy & 70 along the Patterson Creek cut-off; calling for later. Wifey and I took a pretty drive through Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County yesterday. Stopped off at Christmas Challet, and picked up a Dept56 curved creek beds, which mate up nicely with my canal set. Wifey picked up some black bear decorations for the basement "bear den". Oakland has the best Lowe's, and we picked up 2 more shelves for the bar area. Yeungs and wings at Patrick's in Cumberland.
Good day, for sure.
Roy - the beard often feels like I walked through a spider web, yuck.
Banks - the kids were all great, and in a relaxed atmosphere, they really opened up with Santa.
Found Fife in SPF
Framers got here today. Two windows above will be gone for roof peak. One moved to close to the bathroom window. Walls tomorrow.
Goodnight.
Quiet day at work. Not feeling well all day. Did some errands tonight and picked up granddaughter after practice. I hoped everyone has a good day.
fifedog Mornin' boys. Pheewwww...made it through the weekend. It was a labor of love, that's all that can be said for our Christmas in July event. Had a short blurb on the local news as well. Came home, ate some meatloaf, and pretty much collapsed onto the big comfy couch. Roy - Here's 1 for you 19 for me....

FIfe ....what happened to the link. Saw it earlier but didn't take the time to watch
83 at noon and huuuuumiiiiiid. ugh. Bring da dry heat!
Success at the tax appraiser. Got the market value lowered 35K where many are seeing 35-50K increases. The foundation and "no updates" since 1977 convinced them to actually lower It. I turn 65 in Oct so several of the 5 taxing entities will freeze my tax rate at the now reduced 2017 level. Now I know the process I will go back to keep the market value down unless we decide to fix this place.
Fife - loved the "beard"!
Dougnotta - good luck for the next step on the surgery
Hey all.
Got an e-mail from a friend who was a pilot in the Air Force for well over 20 years. Attached was a link that brought back a lot of memories of days, nights and weekends working on aircraft on the flightline and/or hangars making sure they were ready for the next days sorties.

Good Afternoon from sticky 85°F Southern Ohio,
Hope all had a good weekend. It was busy around here. The youngest had a great time at church camp. As proof she has a count down on the white board in the kitchen for when sign-ups for next year open, as it fills up fast.
I made some progress on the Honey Dos; I made the chicken feeder and gave the “new design” to the layer hens and gave the Eating Machines (broiler chicks) the old feeder. Yard work took up a lot of the rest of the weekend. I’m recovering parts of the yard that had been let go for some time and it is looking nice. We’re looking into building a fire pit. There is plenty of firewood here and we enjoy sitting around a fire in the evenings when the weather cools.
Got to go
Good Morning Boyz & Gurlz !
As had been said earlier summer is here ! Now the monsoonal humidity is coming this week, gonna hate to see the electric bill for this. Oh well, it beats sitting and stewing in your own sweat.
Dennis, You see those ambulance chasing shysters on TV all the time who are only concerned with one thing, MONEY MONEY MONEY ! Theirs not for you.
Hoping to hear from the surgeon today so we can set-up the pre-op meeting. After last Nov's nephrectomy and the reaction I had to the anesthesia that will be the #1 item on my agenda.
Fife, You may have been pooped when you got home but it is still something I'd bet you truly enjoyed and will cherish the memories.
Time to get a move on, PT exercise time.
Evening gang,
Nice warm one today but the humidity came up fast. 95
Spent the entire day working on presentation to property tax appraisal board. Hearing is tomorrow at 11:30. Raised my structure value by 25% and used comps where extensive renovations/upgrades have been done. My house is just the same as in 1977. Maintained but not upgraded. Wish me luck!
Mike C - you did not say the diameter of the trunk - if not too bad tie a chain around it and rip it out of the ground with a come-along or a pickup truck (Or a come-along tied to my pickup). I have done this extensively and it gets most of the roots out also. If you have or can borrow a small tractor even better.
Nice day weather wise. Grandson's team lost 17-2 as he was the only one to drive in any runs. Foyt team was 15th and 17th today. Worked on the honeysuckle bush again. Tried to take axe to the base, but it bounced right off. I trimmed back as much as I could with limb saw. Will have Lucas take a chain saw to it next time he is here. I hope everyone has a good day.
Morning all. Not a lot going on here. Rain last night was a flood you would think. Suppose to get more today.
Hope all have a good day
Sorry for the non-post on Friday. Work was good on Friday and weather was better for walk. Mowed the yard with the big mower. Grass was tall and took over 2 hours Friday night. Came inside, sat in chair and fell asleep. Wife woke me up at 11:30 to go to bed. Got up at 7 AM on Saturday to go watch grandson's baseball games. The team lost both games, but was more competitive than last week. Indy 11 won again. Foyt team at back of pack again. I hope everybody has a good day.
95 today and showers. Cooled off a bit. Slightly below normal temps for next week. 95 avg, normally 98.
Grilled out some chicken and spent the evening on the back porch.
Banks - welcome back! Hope you had a great trip.
Kilroy is always welcome
Hello there, back from da beach.
Only 3 posts since last night. One of them was Kilroy. What's up with that?????
Goin to shower and then bed.
Hot and humid here. Heat index in the 100+. Only .25 inches of rain all week. Been watering.
Had to replace ignition switch in 97 Silverado. Cranked it and had code. No tach, no speedometer and no shift indicator. Fuse fine. Truck ran on in drive. Fixed now.
Still on tick meds. Have specialist appointment Wed.
Kilroy was here.
no TGIF this week. Gotta go back to reality tomorrow.
Been a busy week at the beach. SIL chartered a fishing boat this PM. Spent 4 hours in the bay. Caught several flounder but no keepers.
Doog good luck with the surgery.
Best get t bed. Gotta pack and be left by 10AM.
Dougnotta - guess that is good news - prayers for you!
Mornin' All !
No trains doin's of late. Spent some time yesterday with the Marquis de Sade, a.k.a. a physical therapist. I sure wouldn't want to make that gal angry, I'm sure she could really put a hurt on ya.
The week before last discovered an almost baseball size mass/lump/or something. First thought was that the cancer had returned, but thankfully it turned out to be a hernia. Not that a hernia is fun but it beats the h*** out of a cancer diagnosis. Should be meeting with the surgical staff next week to set a date for a repair job.
A very toasty 82 already this morning. 95 today. Full sun
fifer - stay cool!
Phish - good luck with the feeder!
Mike C - hope the intestinal issue is resolved?
Mornin' boys. Overcast and 72 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Yesterday was so humid, that when I stepped onto the platform to punch tickets, it looked like a sprinkler went off in my hat. Embarrassing. The evening CinJ train was better, but very light. I looked more like Santa Garcia...
Same schedule today, but a little cooler temps.
That is why I subscribe to MR and Trains to get a train "fix" every month during the CTT bimonthly time period. Work was good today, but had some more intestinal issues. Recovered enough to show up for game. Our contest was the only one not forfeited among the 4 scheduled, but we only had 7 players so maybe we should have spared the energy. I played well again so it was not a total waste. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Afternoon from toasty 90°F Southern Ohio,
I’ve been crazy busy at work and at home this week. I’m off the next few days and have several Honey Do’s in the que. A high priority will be to make another chicken feeder. The broiler chicks (AKA eating machines) are emptying the feed trough several times a day. I made one last year but it is in the coop with the laying hens. And there is some painting, replacing a photocell on the outside light post, more boxes to unload and hopefully get the train boxes moved. We’re going to go get the youngest from Church Camp tomorrow. From the Facebook postings she seems to be having a great time.
About time for shift change and a shower.
95 right now. Toasty out as we say!
It's approaching 5 o'clock if ya know what I mean
CTT - yep, seems like a long gap in the summer - and you seem to get the July issue in May....
Doc appts today followed by a "haircut" - or what I call subsidizing those with hair. I wait as long as possible between "cuts" to somewhat get my money's worth.
RT your probably right I checked and have July. It sure seems like a long time between though.
Morning all.
S.J. I believe they don't do August. You should be getting September soon thou.
Rain overnight, Hi of 88 today.
We needed rain but it's coming as storms instead of a nice steady rain.
No train news. just enjoying summer as the days get shorter already..lol
If there's a new CTT out there I still haven't got one.
My best game in a long, long time went for naught as we were outmanned most of the game. I had more touches tonight than the whole season combined and for one game I think I got some respect from the team. It felt good. Work went well today and there is not much to catch up on. Weather was hot. I hope everyone has a good day.
95 right now. High 90's rest of the week. Summer has showed up!
Lawn looks good for first time in 10 years. Had enough rain this spring and with lakes full allowed to water the lawn twice a week this summer.
So Fifer - summer, a red suit, "sandy claws"?
a whole day yesterday with no posts????
Vacation continues. Salisbury Zoo and Toy Town yesterday (4 new in box Tyco cars, cheap. They were there last trip but I passed ) then a couple hours at the pool. .hot tub.
Photos when I take time to figure out Shutterfly.
Fife.....seems a little early for Christmas. Bet you're not the conducter this weekend.
Best move on.
Mornin' boys. Partly sunny and 71 in the Potomac Highlands. In a little while will be headed into work to help decorate Frostburg station for Christmas. Care to guess my "role" this weekend...?
Steak, (crab)cake and tonight.
91/92 today but still 91 at 9 pm and 87 at 10 pm. 95 tomorrow.
Mike C - glad you made it back OK.
Nothing to report tonight.
Made it home today. Ran into heavy around Cincinnati area. Indiana has been pounded by rain all this week so far. Fields were too wet to play tonight. Back to work tomorrow. I hope everyone has a good day.
Made better time today. Only 6 hours from Wilmington to Princeton, WV. I hope everyone has a good day.
Weather as predicted today. 91 and sunny. Low humidity, but that changes starting Wed.
I have had good luck with Chevy's and the rust issue. But here in the south we do not have road salt all winter long. My 2001 GMC Silverado 1500 is going strong. The only body image issues caused by me...
Banks - you traveled how far to take a nap?
2nd day at the beach. Went to 7.15 mass yesterday then spent most of the day napping before joining family at a seafood buffet. Today we spent a few hours surf fishing now fixing to go purchase some adult beverage and relax for the evening.
Kev.....nice ride!!!!
Fife. ..lot's o yatchets on the bay when we crossed on Saturday. Layout is lookin good.
Happy Monday,
I hope this new truck does better than my other Chevys. It seems every new Chevy I have ever had was already rusting in the showroom. The 1978 LUV, gone in 8 years the 1986 S-10, gone in 9 years and the Silverado rusting in 6 years. My Dakota made 11 years before the rust came through and that was bottom of the doors and the front edges of the front fenders, 160K on it. Best ever mileage was just once it got 17.1 MPG on a trip to Florida. It drove nice and pulled well but loved the gas.
68 and Steady rain since about 4:00am, at times hard, we needed some but go figure. Yesterday afternoon I sprayed 9 gallons of round-up on the drive and lane. I hope it had enough time to take.
Not sure what I am doing today. Going to head north on Wednesday till Sunday to help Mark with hooking up that 500 gallon LP tank and some other stuff I think.
Grand-son loved the new truck. Thought I got it for his birthday.
I spent all the time there setting up Katie's new Laptop for her. I thought these kids were supposed to know how to do all that stuff?
90 today and sunny all day! Same tomorrow with temps maybe a bit higher.
Kev - to grandson Jordan!
Dennis - that's hot. Hear you are setting some records in CA...
Hey all. Kevin tell Jordan Happy Birthday.
72 heading to 90 with humidity and sweat is the call today. Glad I got some stuff done outside yesterday.
Grandson Jordan's real birthday today. I think we will be going out to eat at Mickie D's.
Maybe install that new Faucet today if Brain feels like it.
Maybe but I could swear my boss had a Z71 and it wasn't 4 wheel drive.
After looking I think your right? But Off-Road suspension without 4x4 seems to me to be a oxymoron.
Good afternoon all,
Made it to Wilmington finally. Long day trips. Nice to be with family. I hope everyone has a good day.
KRM Thanks RT! The Z71 on the sides = 4x4 off road package with skid plates and locking rear diff. Same as the Silverado had. Never needed any of it. But it is there.
Thanks RT!
The Z71 on the sides = 4x4 off road package with skid plates and locking rear diff.
Same as the Silverado had. Never needed any of it. But it is there.
I use to think that also but it is not true. Z71 is just a off road package not necessarily 4 wheel drive. I know it kinda contradict itself but it's just beefier springs & shocks and usually off road tires. Heres a quote from a web site I asked the question and this is what they stated " since around 07-08ish, GM decided to offer 2wd trucks with the "Z71 suspension package". They sit up a little higher (and probably ride) like a 4x4 Z71 but still lack the 4x4 ability. Then there's the "true" Z71s that have the 4x4 capability."
Morning/afternoon all!
Partly cloudy and maybe some more rain this afternoon. 88
Cleaned up the boat this morning and oiled the sheaves on the boat lift. So far so good. Did a high lift with the new cables to check the wrap on the winding pipe.
Kev - nice ride!
Resting up from the past week. Exhausted. Got up early to see my son and his buddy off for their 13 hr drive.
Kevin 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive? Hard to tell from the pictures. Nice looking truck.
Hey all. Not much going on here. Hope you all have a good weekend
Good morning,
67 heading to only 81 today then back into the oven for all of next week.
We plan on yard work today to.
Jim, I guess your right we did fall off track looking for the chainsaw head for the weed wacker. Now I can't afford one.
I got shutterfly to work. Here it is. I like the blacked out bowtie.
Mornin' boys. Partly sunny and 67 along the front range of the Alleghanies. Shot 100's at my annual LEOSA qualification, even though it was pouring rain and I was covered in mud from the burm. Wifey finally got her Weber Spirit, now I need to put it together. Youngest Princess spending 3 weeks with Oldest Princess, so we are getting our first taste of "empty nest".
Good Evening from wet 70°F Southern Ohio,
It was nice today but raining like crazy now. The oldest girl is at Cheer leading camp and the other two are at the other grandparents tonight. Bride grilled steaks and they were great. We had a busy day. Started off with bride's mom falling and praise be God she was only bruised and nothing was broken. She's 87 and still living on her own but my bride is her first go to of the 7 kids in her family.
Gabriel and I cut down some scrub trees and we hauled them off. Then it was digging to restore where a flower bed was let go wild. Bride wants to put in a herb garden. It is in a good spot right off the kitchen door and fresh herbsreally make a big difference.
Kev – Nice looking truck. Got a little distracted at the hardware store?
Chief – A nice crawl space is a big plus.
Banks – Praise God all is working out with BIL
Good Night and may God bless
V8Vega 106 and feels every bit of it, humid too, same tomorrow. 122 in Palm Springs.
106 and feels every bit of it, humid too, same tomorrow. 122 in Palm Springs.
Aloha. Humid! THis was the first 4th where we begged off watching the fireworks. With all the rain, the skeeters are vicious. Chief, I beg the doc is right - RMSF is tough to get rid of and supposedly can come back. Hope this time is the charm and you can rest. Enjoy the beach with the kids and grands, Banks
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Hey Bob where's my CTT?
Still waiting.
Rain overnight, 88 and sun for today.
Morning up. 87/64. Going to be a humid scorcher. Workers here and gone and here and ?????? Not sure what's up for them today.Me, cooking sliced side meat and then squash/zucchini/onions. Also, not Catholic but today is Friday and fish day. Guess I will have to go up the street to restaurant.
Roy, French drain on outside and inside. Required. Drains into a plastic well. Sump pump in sell to pump outside and down hill. See the stone. Covers French drain. Outside wall just like it before backfilling. Entrance is a enclosed steps in one side. Also, lights with switch and electrical outlet under floor. Floor is covered with insulation and vapor barrier [thick plastic]. All in the code now. Workers jsut came back. In the "crawl space" leveling out all the soil. Suppose to be on rest but who has the time. On tick meds again. They now think that I never actually got rid of RMSF.Have a good one.
TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next week is Beach week with all the Kids and Grandkids.
Case in point today. Just about everything went wrong on the first leg of the trip. Started late. Missed a turn off. Got stuck in traffic. Ate a lousy meal for supper. Ugh. Have to remember this is for wife. I hope everyone has a good day.
Well the holiday week is coming to a close. Daughter and her friend fly home tomorrow. Son and his buddy will drive back Saturday. Had a fun week on the water and with friends, even though rain on and off each day slowed things down.
Banks - that's good news about your BIL.
Chief - how will you get into the crawl space. Dirt floor in the crawl space? Looks like you will need a sump pump. My MIL had a crawl space like that and noticed it was really muggy in the house. Opened a floor access and it was Okeefenoki swamp in there. ended up adding a sump pump as could never find the source of the water (rain water).
cheapclassics Good evening all, Leaving tomorrow for North Carolina. Was hoping to see the Chief, but time may be too short for that and I did not want to plan something that I could not guarantee would happen. Mike C. from Indiana
Leaving tomorrow for North Carolina. Was hoping to see the Chief, but time may be too short for that and I did not want to plan something that I could not guarantee would happen.
If we don't catch you at the border. Call if you can.
Redneck swimming pool taking shape. Now waiting for lumber and framing crew.
Hope all have a good one.
waiting my turn for my preop testing.
Turns out BIL'S issues were a bad reaction to medicine that was treating phlebitis and cellulitis.
Some of you will remember the 1956 NMRA booklet I gave to Bob Keller at York. I was surprised to read about it in the FROM THE EDITOR of the August issue of MRR. Neal did his piece on the fanciful names people gave their "Pike" in that era. I was a bit disappointed he didn't mention that it was addressed to A.C. Kalmbach.
Due to the weather guessers being wrong son's nice 2nd cutting alfalfa is still laying in the field and is now junk.
Almost my turn. Best move on.
Mowed the yard today. Big mower crapped out on me again and had to use small mower. 2+ hours. Ugh. Did some other errands. Had a game tonight and tied 1-1. Makeup games are next week. Leaving tomorrow for North Carolina. Was hoping to see the Chief, but time may be too short for that and I did not want to plan something that I could not guarantee would happen. Weather incredibly muggy here. I hope everyone has a good day.
We sat on the front porch last night and just watched everybody else send their money into the sky. No one real close so it was a perfet spot for watching.
Mornin' boys. Cloudy and 71 along the Patterson Creek cut-off. I need a haircut, and hopefully my "stylist" didn't take off this week...
Wifey, youngest princess and I watched the fireworks from the former Fort Cumberland (present day Masonic Temple and Emmanual Episcopal). Nice evening and polite crowd. Even got us in for a private tour of the Mason's lodge, built in 1911. While watching the show, kept reflecting on George Washington, who started and ended his military career on the spot where we were seated.
Happy Independence Day! Took life easy today. Wife and I did a jigsaw puzzle (300 pieces). We watched Rogue One and some fireworks on TV. I went thru some more financial papers. Slowly get that to a manageable mess. Watched the Indy 11 play to a draw. Tomorrow will mow yard and have a game if weather permits. Arkady, thank you for sharing those memories. Those are good ones. I hope everyone has a good day.
Well here it is a little past nine in Virginia and there's so many fireworks going off in the neighborhood it sounds like the damn Yankees are laying siege to Richmond again!
Hey, wait a minute, I'M a damn Yankee! Maybe I've assimilated much better than I thought I did!
Happy Independence Day everyone!
Happy Independence Day!
Have been busy with the family and friends. Cookouts and fireworks. All good.
Arkady - I have similar memories of family reunions in Akron. All good and thanks!
Prayers for those in need!
Thanks for sharing your memories arkady. It reminds me of all day picnics that my family had when I was child. We went to the forest preserves around Chicago for our picnics. Lots of good memories.
Happy 4th of July to everyone!
Enjoying the World's Greatest Nation and happy to be so blessed.

Happy Birthday USA.
I was going to mow the lawn today, but the grass is too soggy from last night's rain. The heat and humidity today are ghastly, so I guess I'll just stay in and do some work on my Marx trains. Pretty tame stuff, compared to the Fourth of Julys I spent with my family in the early Fifties.
When I was a kid, the Fourth always meant that my aunt, uncle and cousin would come to visit. We'd be up late the night before, preparing food for the next day's cookout, then rising early to load the cars with folding chairs, charcoal grill, beach blankets and -- of course -- food. An impartial observer would have thought we were getting ready for an expedition to parts unknown, based on the provisions we were carrying.
Then we'd be off bright and early for the Whipple's Dam State Park, where we'd grab a prime picnic table (under the trees for shade, but still close to the water). It wasn't easy, for the park was enormously popular, and it was standing room only, even on normal weekends. But the Fourth was the very pinnacle of all summer celebrations, and eager pilgrims flocked to it from all over the state, in frenzied throngs.
Once we were unpacked, The Old Folks (they were in their thirties at the time, and unimaginably elderly) would sit around talking endlessly about boring grownup things, while us kids would head at once for the beach. The lake water (fed by a mountain stream) was always frigidly cold even on the hottest days, and we eased ourselves into it with gritted teeth, then emerged minutes later, shivering and goosebumped, ready to dry off for a hike around the lake. This ordeal would be repeated several times as the day wore on. It was summertime, and by God, no matter how unpleasant it might be, we had to go swimming!
By mid-afternoon, it was time for Dad to light the charcoal grill, an elaborate process that required an expert's touch with artistic applications of lighter fluid and many wooden matches. Once the ritual blaze was reliably begun, foil-wrapped corn and potatoes would slowly roast to perfection, followed hours later by hamburger patties that sizzled and flared on the grate as they dripped grease into the glowing coals.
As darkness fell, we'd roast marshmallows on sticks carefully gathered from the forest floor. And finally, as the park began to close for the day, Dad would extinguish the fire with cups of lake water and dump the cold coals in the nearest metal wastecan. By the beams of flickering flashlights, we'd carefully pack up and head out through the gathering dark, always the last to leave, just ahead of the ever-vigilant park rangers.
At home, the perishable foods would be taken out and stuffed in the refrigerator, but everything else would wait for the next day's light. While the grownups showered gratefully, us kids would hurry out onto the night-shrouded sidewalk to light sparklers and snakes, ensuring the continuation of American Independence for another year.
That night, we slept the sleep of righteous exhaustion, knowing as we did that Summertime would last forever.
And Somewhere, I believe, it still does.
Have a safe 4th.
Michigan allows home fireworks w/local restriction's but only one city arround here tries to enforce their rules.
Happy 4th gang!
No plans for us today. The kids have their own plans so we will just chill.
The neighbors, campgrounds and small towns had the war zone going well into the night. Sure it will be more of the same tonight.
HAPPY 4th OF JULY ALL

Good Evening from humid 75°F Southern Ohio,
I am off this week and hope to get a lot of work done. I mounted a quilt shelf and an old fashioned phone, then started weeding and mulching flower beds and stopped to take a break and cut grass. I really like the John Deere riding mower we got.
My bride invited several of her brothers and sisters over for dinner much to my surprise but the food was good and the nephews enjoyed messing with the rabbits and chickens. The kids moved the broiler chicks out of the warming tub to their outside enclosure. They seem to be adjusting fine.
Good night and may God bless
A very good, relaxing day. Wife and I went to Columbus, Indiana for a nice drive. We stopped at some places and then had a nice lunch. Wife got some clothes. It was very good. We need more days like that. I hope everyone has a good day.
A Happy and Safe 4th to all.
Ray sent you a message thru the CTT system
Happy 4th of July weekend all,
I have just been laying low with the heat. Got to work on pool when the spirit moves me.
Had a senior moment yesterday. Drove to the TTOS train meet yesterday 20 mile round trip only to discover I came a week early. Duh!
I have been fighting itchy skin for about 5 months now. Using all kinds of prescription creams etc. Dermatologist has given up on me I think. It's driving me crazy at times.
Not to bad today however. Got to run,
Happy 4th of July Eve.....
Yes I am keeping the American dream alive by NOT taking off today, I am working. HA! Not one but 2 jobs!!
Uneventful weekend, thank goodness, I'll sleep in a bit, tomorrow is Mom and Dad's 63rd wedding anniversary and my sister is throwing a BBQ for them, so tha will be fun.
2 weeks I'll be in Carlisle, PA with the road runner bunking with some friends, and that will be a nice break can't wait.
That's all that's fir to print, catch ya on the flip...
V8Vega - ...?
Busy day. Sprayed weeds for last time this year. Edged sidewalks and did some extra trimming. Watched "Battleship" again with wife after we did some shopping together. Weather is warm. I hope everyone has a good day.
Thanks for your prayers. BIL is much improved. Still may have small internal bleeding but the super low blood pressure is attributed dehydration. More tests being done.
With the help of a niece got the pool up and about 2/3 full. Also got 2 trees planted. 2 more to go. Need to get some peat moss to mix with the soil for them.
Son mowed hay all day today. Probably end up baling hay on the 4th. Most of it will be ready tomorrow it is so far past ready but we've had no weather to make hay. Some of what he cut was nice 2nd cutting alfalfa.
Supper arrived. Best move on.
Hi guys, Happy 4th weekend to ya all,
My sister called and her house was one of the places they were going to evacuate from the train wreck. She is 250' from the tracks.
She said it was a 115 car train and it derailed on car 75. Whey worked all night and they already have trains running again but still have 8 of the 25 tank cars to get picked up. Those were the ones with the most damage. She was talking to some of the guys working on the mess and they told her at least 1/2 of the derailed cars had leaking going on. The biggest fear was fire. There is thousands of gallons of crude on the ground.
WOW, Fifey has done a great job on starting a new Pot.
Been rather busy. Also hot and HUMID here. Got wet with sweat just riding JD in the shade yesterday.
Waiting for DR. to come back to work. Dermatologist was concerned over elevated white blood count. ER DR. wasn't when I had stitches. Dermatologist had me do a WBC test this past week. Still up. Not alarmingly high but still up. Been up for two months now. Started with RMSF. We'll see.
Have a good and SAFE holiday.
Prayers for BIL please. Suspected internal bleeding. More later.
Good day with older daughter and her family. We filled up a pew at Mass with all 8 of us there. Weather was warm but dry. I hope everyone has a good day.
HAPPY JULY 4th WEEKEND GANG!
Good Afternoon from sticky 80°F Southern Ohio
We went and got my bride a promised swing for Mother's Day. It is nice a big and strong. It's great sitting on the front porch in it.
Put up a make-up mirror and side lights in one girl's room, and a bulliten board in the Utility Room, and some coat hooks here and there, so it has been busy but not hard day. I was going to trim out around the microwave but what I took off will not fit and the trim kits are crazy expensive so I'll get some wood trim and make it.
It has looked like rain all day and we heard thunder a few times but no rain. I may go cut grass or empty some more boxes.
TStorms here. Lotta showers predicted for the holiday week. Just like the last couple of years. A week of beautiful weather the week before the forth and then storms for the week of the forth.
Dennis - just like there are folks that for some reason love, collect, and restore AMC Pacers and small two-rail trains...
Kev - funny how things with flanged wheels large and small can't stay on the rails for some reason...
Some train news from the old home town. This is close to where our friend Mark's house is and about 1/8 mile from our old place.
CN at their best. May of had to do with the gas pipeline they are building through there as well.
