G BEAR

Hello everyone,

I want to say "thank you" to everyone for the Happy Birthday wishes. Yes

G BEAR

God Bless

I guess that means it's too late for me to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY G BEARCake  Hope you enjoyed your day.

KRM, I never gave the deal with the water softener a thought.  I could have the same situation, even though I have an emergency generator, but because the well pump is on the generator, but the softener is not.  It would just keep running water straight though until we realized the sump pump (also on the generator) was running way too much.  Thanks for the tip, I'll have to see what I have to do to add it.  Not much load involved so that isn't an issue.

Hope everyone has a great week.

John, it's never too late to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY", thank you.

God Bless

Evening all!

Relaxing day with some chores, a little work on the porch, and dinner out with friends. Also watched NASCAR Mich race on and off.

Heat continues but it is low 90's and not 100's. Cool

Hello there,

Happy B-Day to G BEAR

Enjoying a much needed thunderstorm while getting ready for bed.

Son and a friend cut one of three corn fields today for silage. There were no ears to amount to anything and his friend was short corn for silage so they worked out a deal. (no details on that yet) He thinks the other two fields may be worth waiting on.

Mom is still having issues made her get up and gave her breakfast for lunch yesterday. Next thing I know she's back in bed. No thing specific she "just don't feel good" This Morning she seemed fine. Gave her breakfast and while I was getting her pills she had a TIA. Managed to get her back to bed. Been there ever since except a few minutes to eat supper and get her pills.

Bestget t sleep

Prayers for those in need

G. Bear, belated Happy Birthday!Happy B-Day

Went to my Dixieland Jazz club meeting today and heard three different bands.  It was a nice outing.

Ran some trains on my layout twice last week for the first time in many weeks.  Everything is still working and I cleaned the track. Still too hot in there at midday though.  Came out of there soaking wet but it was fun.

Had some G.I. problems yesterday but getting back to normal now I hope.

Will visit my wife tomorrow.

Aloha and Happy Monday.
Happy belated birthday G-Bear! Happy B-Day
Looks like another week of nice summer weather in Chicagoland.
Unlike JT, most rainstorms have missed us and the lawn definitely shows it.
Did you see this video of the tornado up near Detroit? Glad it missed you, SJ
Highlight of the weekend was taking the dog out for daily walks. Also, helped at a showing of the original Stars Wars movies at church on Sat. It was fun to see all the kiddos dressed up.
Congrats on Lucas' marriage, MikeC
Stur-Fish, my wife is a school nurse too - the kids tell her 'everything'...
Jeez, Chief, my lawn is full of rocks like that. I'd have been happy to give them to the high school. Big Smile
Fife, I got out on the lake on Friday in one of the Capri 14.2s. Light air, but I liked the challenge of chasing the puffs and getting back in without help. The marina manager told me they'll keep the boats out this season until the air temp goes below 60! That may be into Oct.

cnw1995 - Glad you got to get out there at least.  I had to meet the home appraiser yesterday...  When I'm at the tiller, I don't think of anything else but the sailboat until I'm all tied up at the slip again.

Then (and only then) I think about Drinks.

Good Morning, (Got a lot to catch up on, so get started.)

Bob, Actually I haven't taken the tour on the Iowa yet, get kinda spoiled knowing its here all the time, so can go whenever.  It definetely is on my priority list.

Ray, Unfotunately I never got on opportunity to run 340, but from what I understand it had its own personality, really glad to see it operating again.  And 41 was long past due for renovation, there were some serious issues needing attention, primarily with the chassis.  Since I left there was a major shake up in personnel, a whole new staff doing maintence, the engineers and firemen are not even allowed in the round house any longer, too many chiefs and not enough indians.  I am familiar with Curleys, they are one of our customers for laser cartridges. Been there a few times, they have great food.  Glad to hear Helen is doing well, and you as well, a well deserved but difficult change in life for you, I'm sure.

Fife, I'm sure you will be grateful youv'e done all the preparation early, when it sells I'm sure it will all go down quick.

Roy, The time I've spent working with George sure has been beneficial to me, he sure has taught me a lot!  When are you ever going to slow down?  Thanks for the tidbits regarding the Sydney bridge, that was interesting.

Sturgeon Fish, Found a place for the new sound picture, (Cabinet with shot glasses next to control panel.)  The image is the same one as my avatar, it really sounds good.  Still trying to figure out how to hang the other images above the G-Scale track, not very convienent working place, have to wait for Chris' availability.)  Glad to hear Gabriel is doing so well, he is an impressive young man! Only bad think about of our trip was the late departure, but some things just can't control.

Mike C, Congrats on Lucas' wedding, that is really great!

Kev, Let me understand, took the meds with 3 glasses of wine.  Result: Felt in the clouds the next morning.  Solution: Stop taking the pills.  Glad to see you have the priority right, even though the Dr may not agree.  Glad to hear you averted the flood, that was great planning and prevention.

Chief, You dont think there was a plan with the rocks, to keep you out of the HS, do you?  Might have to cultivate another captive audiance somewhere.  You think I'm goofing off in retirement?  No way!!  Its all part of my master plan to keep Kay happy and entertained, taking care of my survival system.

JTrains, THUMS trip was really intriging!  The 4 islands are the base of 8,000 well heads, all pumping from the Wilmington Oil Field (4th largest in nation).  What was expected to last 20 years from 1964, is still going and expected to run another 20-30 years with exsisting technology.  The total from the islands is 250k barrels a day, which is directly piped to local refineries.  So many interesting statistics!  (Bad news, I took over 50 pics on the tour, was able to show them later to Kay, then they have ALL dissappeard!

Dennis, That is one LONG stretch of straight track!!  When was it built?  I don't think they would have GPS capability at that time, and I cant image a string that long.  Glad you got the AC in when you did, with the forecast sounds like we got some hot weather headed our way soon.

G Bear, Happy belated Birthday! Given your location did you get any wine tasting done?  BTW, when we went on The Wine Train, I asked about a VETS discount, and they said sure, and took $50 off our tickets!!

Doug M, How late in the season do you get to go sailing?  Envy you and Fife, had fun doing that years ago.

SJ, Echoing Dougs comment glad that bad weather missed you!

Banks, Best wishes for you and your Mom, know it can be really tough.

Hope I caught everything, a lot of stuff in 3 days!

Things been very busy since got back home!  The highlight was the THUMS trip.  But don't understand, have been using a tablet taking pictures.  Some how lost the last 2 days of the vacation and Thums, probably close to 200 pics!  Spent the better part of a day trying different things to find them but no luck.  Even lost all the pics from the Wine Train ride.  Whats really weird is we had reviewed them one time, then gone.  I can't believe they were deleted.

Going to go check out Marks layout tomorrow, apparently he was vacuuming under the layout, and now no power.  So shouldn't be too difficult to resolve.

Then hopefully see about getting some stuff hooked up on my layout.

OH, just received one of the newest Heisler's from Lionel.  Kinda dispointed in the engine, mechanically its great!  But, the electronics seems to be the same as TMCC.  And given the price?  I primarily wanted it to complete my collection of a O-Scale - Shay, Climax, and Heisler;

Take care all and be Safe!!

Hi all, just got back from the Doctors and am now off all meds but my BP pills. Still sore but way better. Seems there is some light at the end of the tunnel for me yet.  I have lost 13 pounds and Dr wants me to drink 8 bottles of water a day??? He did a EKG and that was good but he doesn’t like my heart rate of 110 but is not ready to medicate yet for it. Just been high since the back and the stair thing.
We have been getting plenty of rain and the grass seems to be ready to be cut as soon as you finish getting it cut.
Nice today with temps in the 80 and blue skies. Grass needs to be cut but everything is wet.
Daughter and some-day-maybe are moved into their house and I managed to avoid any heavy lifting. They still have plenty to do but it will come.
Mike C congrats on Lucas' wedding.
Happy belated birthday G-BearCake
Banks, Prayers for your mom.
Good to see Joe passing through.
Best get at it

Good evening all,

Today was a busy day but at least it wasn't as hot.  The two older kids (10th and (8th) started school today.  I spent two hours of the morning with the 8th grader to meet his teachers and help him find his classes.  I spent most of the evening running errands as the 8th grade boy had soccer practice and I needed to buy a new power cable for the XBox; the six-year-old fried the original when he plugged it directly into the 220 outlet.  I'm on the back porch having a glass of wine now.

Good night,

Joe

Need your help. Looking for a nut, I know look in the mirror, got that out of the way. It is for an electrcoupler on an Atlas GP15, on the base of the electrocoupler is a pocket that holds the extremely small nut. Unfortunately have been unable to get any info as to a replacement nut or even a new electrocoupler. See attached photo.

 Any info / help appreciated.

Evening all!

Don - glad you Had a good trip. Slow down? I am just getting started...

DougnottaG - if I had to guess (the photo is not too good) that nut is either 2-56 or 1-72. Could also be metric. I am lucky to have a small shop near me that sells this small hardware In small quantities. You can search 'SmallParts.com' on Amazon. Small Parts went exclusive to Amazon about 2 years ago, but they specialize in precision hardware. I would also be happy to mail you some if we can figure out exactly the size needed.

EDIT - Amazon bought out smallparts.com and fouled it up royally. so ditch that idea. Try Microfasteners.com. Cheaper and easier to use than Amazon.

Doug and Fife - I spent a lot of weekends sailing on Lake Somerville in central Texas while I was in college. Last time I sailed was on Galveston Bay about 26 years ago. Miss it.

Thanks Roy. Tried to get some info from Atlas but as has happened in the past with them, No Response. For my last Atlas repairs I was lucky to find someone who was converting some 3rail power units into 2rail dummies. I now have some extra motors and power transfer gear assemblies that will work on all three of the different types of Atlas engines on my roster. The earlier run engines came from factory A while factory B made the current run so the new parts will not work with earlier production run even if it is the same engine. Bang Head

Went down to the museum in the wee hours this morning and ran my magnet car over all the mains and sidings hoping to pick up that elusive nut. No luck but did collect a lot of filings and a couple of screws.

Well, enuff grousing for today.

Later Y'all.

Good evening,

Thankfully it was another not-so-warm day today.  The workday was uneventful, but did perhaps go a bit slow.  I grilled some burgers for dinner and then relaxed with the wife.  It is about bedtime now.

Good evening all,

So-so day at work.  Morning was good, afternoon not so much.  Weather was warm for walk.  Watched the high school boys play tonight.  Down only 1-0 at the half, kind of fell apart in second half, losing 5-0.  Cannot fault the effort.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Just a quick hello.

DougnottaG - let me know. In a couple of weeks I could send you a selection to try. The nut may be stainless or brass so magnet could miss it. How about sending a camera car around and then you can spend entertaining mindless hours at home reviewing the video for the lost 'nut'.

Dougda, hope you find that elusive nut.  I waited most of the morning for the appliance repair man to show up so skipped breakfast because I didn't want to be in the middle of it when he came.  Anyway he fixed my Maytag dryer with some new parts and a new exhaust hose.  The old one was full of holes and leaking badly.  The dryer is 27 years old and this is the first problem we had with it.  They don't make em like that anymore.  Saw my foot doctor this afternoon so the day was pretty much shot by the time I got home.  Too hot to do anything outside so I just laid low.  l missed the band concert in the park yesterday.  Too hot.  Going to see Helen again tomorrow.  later,

Ray

Good Morning from foggy Southern Ohio,

Kev – Good to hear you are feeling better.

Don – Thank you for your compliment for Gabriel, I am proud of him.  The painting will look really good where you’re talking I think.

Fife – When I dismantled my layout I was amazed at just how quickly it came down compared to building it up.  It was a melancholy feeling to see the figures, the accessories, all the “stuff” of the details, in boxes.  I am still looking forward to building another layout.

Doug – I think school nurses become almost like surrogate moms is a way.  She has been a school nurse for 20+ years now and kids still keep in contact with her.  Some of the kids are kids of the kids she took care of!

Banks – I’ll keep your Mom in my daily prayers

May God bless

Jim

Good Morning,

Went to Mark's layout yesterday, he called while we were on vacation, and had a problem not able to get power on layout.  So went to check it out.  I had put in a remote "Panic Button" that would shut ALL power off if needed.  Apparently he activated it or something, that was the only problem.  (Its on a fob and can be hung around the neck.)

This week is "Fleet Week" in the port.  I watched the USS America enter the harbor and is moored next to the USS Iowa.  Extremely impressive!  The America was just launched in 2014, and is one big carrier!  (There is a web site for the event, http://www.lafleetweek.com/  that even has a live image.)  Would like to go to it but the tickets are ALREADY gone.Sad.  Did find out that Veterans get free tours of the Iowa year around.  So will be going there sooner than later.

Oh, don't know if I mentioned, I ordered one of the new Lionel Heislers.  (Probably not the best decision I ever made.)  Can't say I am overly impressed with it, mechanically it is fine, but being a "Legacy 3" engine the electronics are sparse.  Not much more than the TMCC.  (My Legacy Big Boy is better IMO.)  Had some difficulty getting the smoke/steam whistle to work but I finally did.  According to the docs its suppose to have Marker Lights, but they are not there.  I called Lionel and asked, they were very polite and indicated they think they were dropped off during production.  (Must have a lot of them on the floor.)  Think this will be the last Lionel engine I purchase.  I am much more pleased with the MTH, especially when you consider $/feature.  I wanted it just to complete out my speciality engines, Shay, Climax and now Heisler.  so I did that.  (Climax the favorite.)

Intention today is to work in MY train room, so will see how that goes.

Hope everyone escapes all the nasty weather, has a GREAT Day, and stays safe.

Hello all

Back at work for a few days.

Not much progress on the move or motorhome this weekend. Will have another day off this next week so hopefully that will help.

Don - thanks for the link to the Iowa. She looks good at the dock there. Last time I saw her she was in Richmond covered w/ scaffolding. Still very impressive.

I noticed going past the library this week that the special collections division has a display about the USS Arizona. I realized she was commisioned 100 yrs ago this year. Looks like I will be off on the actual day so I will try and visit the collection then.

Kev - glad you are doing a better

On the car front, we are officially down to two now. I 'sold' the '63 Coupe to a friend I work w/ on the mountain. He is going to come and get it in a few weeks. '65 4dr will go into the hands of its new owner in November. Will be down to just the Corvan and the Datsun. However, a '48 Twin Coach is in the works...

Good evening all,

Quiet day at work.  Tomorrow will be busy.  Lot of rain, but got yard mowed anyway.  "My" soccer girls got a much needed win Tuesday night with a 2-0 score.  Supposed to cool off.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening all!

Checking in. Good progress on the porch today. Heavy framing for garage doors is almost complete and then to all the trim out.

Buckeye - points from the various jails you have 'frequented' in the Rosyville area will not get you much in York Laugh

Kev - get better soon!

Have a great evening all!

Evening all.

What a miserable day. Electric Co putting in some underground cables so no power today from 9am til 5:30pm. So what was the weather like, 98* and very humid. Dead

Coupler issue resolved on the GP15. Thumbs Up

Took delivery today of a new MTH SF GP9, price was so good just couldn't pass it up. Friday it will see the tracks for it's debut. This will give me two engines in the SF Blue/Yellow scheme, Atlas U23B and the newly acquired MTH GP9.

Nite all !
