Good Morning from humid 70°F Southern Ohio,
The weather for football practice has been brutal. Temps in the 90’s and humidity > 80%. We have been watching them closely and moderating practice.
Today is the auction of animals at the county fair. Gabriel’s chickens he took will be at auction. We’ll see how he does. Hopefully we’ll be butchering the chickens at home this weekend, but more stuff keeps popping into an already busy weekend.
8n –Sounds like a great plan, beautiful area.
Bob – Are you installing LED lights in the bus? Do you guys get many visitors with increased meteor activity like this weekend?
Kev – Good news with the doctor, is the fog clearing?
Mike – The on line course “Fundamentals of Coaching” was a series of modules with presentations and evaluations after each unit then a comprehensive exam. I was miffed that I had to take the course before I could continue to coach, but afterward I was really glad I took the course. There was a lot of valuable information. The website is nfhslearn.com. Some of the course are free but others are for a fee.
Stay hydrated!!!
May God Bless
Jim
Morning all,
103 today and now maybe some rain this weekend.
Got a pickup and suv load of daughters stuff moved last light. Big move with moving co today. Son showed up with some of his stuff and helped unload/haul in his sisters stuff.
8n - I spent some time in Traverse City 20 yrs ago now. Amoung other things we did a rails-to-trails 20 mile bike ride through some beautiful country. The rail line was an old cherry orchard service line. An attorney that handled the legal negotiations for the trail joined us and gave an interesting overview of the history and work on the trail.
Phish - I have enjoyed the stories about washing the chickens. Never heard of that. Good luck!
Regards, Roy
Hello all
Sun is out this morning on the mountain.
Will continue working on a few projects and then meet w/ the safety guy about the scaffolding.
Jim - I put in a unit w/ 2 T8 2 ft bulbs. It is nice and bright. I considered the LED lights I saw at Lowes since they are fairly low profile. But they were twice as much and I didn't know about their reliability. We tried a few years back and I was underwhelmed, but I imagine they have improved now.
Yes, the Perseids. While we have observed asteroids before, we haven't looked at meteorites. We don't have a public ovserving program on this mountain. Strictly research. You can hear meteorites at a specific radio frequency due to the disturbance they make in the atmosphere.

Good evening all,
Some good news. Work went well as I got mostly caught up. Good walk at noon despite the heat. Took drinks to Junior High kids tonight. One kid asked me if I was going to bring cowbell to their games as well. Made my day. Got my schedule for my Fall League. Start in August and finish in September. What a concept!!! Will have to miss only a few parts of some games for my games. Woo-hoo! I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Hot today. High 90's, high humidity. We went to the State Fair, watched the opening parade and went home. Was just too hot to enjoy much more.
Roy - the Traverse City area is a very pretty area of Michigan. Even though we grew up in Michigan, we never spent much time there. I did ride the bicycle tour from Lansing to St. Ignace a couple of times in the late 70's/early 80's. That tour ran through the Traverse City area. Wasn't on a railroad grade though. There are some pretty good hills around there.
All for now.
I used to spend time at Torch lake, nice up there.
I turned to page 64 today in my book of life.
Had a early dentist apt today for a check up. They dug around till they found something they could put a filling in.
Jim I had a set back and had to go back on some of the meds they took me off of a bit to soon. Seems they were doing a good job of covering the pain. Made it through the night but was up almost as much as asleep.
Rain and more rain is today and tomorrow.

lion88roar Mornin' fellasHad a nice visit with my niece and her boyfriend over the weekend. Was nice to see them and catch up (she doesn't call because she only uses her phone for texting and I don't like texting). They're in college still and he has been working for Sprint for about a year, well they started messing with their pay and commissions so he took a job with AT&T, really likes it and was a top tier salesman for Sprint. Got the low-down on the wireless industry, and may be switching to AT&T when my contract is up with Verizon. He just traded in his 1991 Ford Ranger on a 2007 Dodge Dart with the 1.4L Turbo 4. He was asking about everything related to engines and how to reduce turbo lag... got me to thinking about JimmyT and I log in today and who showed up over the weekend! Fife - need offers... not viewings... keep me posted.Oh - seems the train garden is going to become a priority soon.

Brent,
Been busy and lurking when I got a chance. Been having some fun with this one. Runs great despite the 27 years and 190K.
Picked up a pair of Lionel 736 Berkshires, so I'll be around.
Torch is a beautiful lake as are many of them in that area of Michigan. I try to spend at least two weekends per month at my cabin in northern Michigan. It's really nice getting away "up north".

News just reported 107 as official temp right now. Plus it is humid. Storms just west in Ft Worth. Storms for tomorrow. Great - that is when we assist our sons move to the new apt. Got his sister moved in yesterday. It was only 104 for that and just one flight of stairs to climb! Temps supposed to be lower tomorrow we hope.
Morning all. Hope all have a good weekend. Nothing really planned for today, so it will be a plan as it goes day. Prayers for all in need. Just passing thru, talk to you all later

Evenin' folks. Swelterin' in the Mid-Atlantic region. Lawn went from green to tumble-weeds in 72hrs flat. Did catch some bass and crappie up at the mountain pond. Had a nice visit with my parents, and a little chance to hit the re-set button.
Birthday Yesterday was as good as it could be with my stuff going on. Kids had fun and Katie and Sandra made a nice dinner. We got hammered with 3.7" of rain in about 2 hours. So go figure I got driveway work to do, but not as bad as it has been before. I put the loader and grader on today and gave it a quick once over.
So far today I have not taken a pain meds and I am holding my own. Hard to believe it has been 3 weeks already since I fell down the stairs. 3 days of PT next week. Can't wait to heal up. Bet Don could give lerssons on it after what he went through last year.
Got back in town late yeterday afternoon. Decided to sleep at the trailer. Fortunately the van started fine, as last time I drove it I left the lights on for a bit. After that very rainy day the wipers finally gave out I guess. Time to put in the 2-speed motor I have:)
Will go down to the barn in a bit and do some more work on the motorhome. Will prob pick up and install another of those lights in the bedroom as that's where a lot of the work I'm going to do is. Going to talk to Gene about looking at the Flxible on Monday as I doubt we have 2 batteries decently charged.
The good news is storms held off today and we got our son moved to the new apt. Now he and his sister have to sort all their stuff out.
Temps also dropped significantly. Hard to believe that the 96 high today was a balmy 11 degrees cooler than yesterday.
Get to relax tomorrow.
Good day at work Friday. Did nothing at home Friday night. Reffed 2 games today and watched "my" soccer girls win a scrimmage. Watched Indy 11 win 2-1. Went to dedication for new church building. Not terribly impressed with ceremony or new facility. May be a white elephant way too soon. I hope everyone has a good day. Lots of rain here, but cooler.
Good Afternoon from hot 90F Sunny Southern Ohio,
The kids and my bride are out to the fair taking down the fair booth as the county fair ended last night. It was a good year at the fair for the kids. The girls had two 1st place awards and went to the Ohio State fair. The oldest Felicity won Outstanding of the Day for her outfit. Gabriel was tied for 1st in showmanship, and in the tiebreaker dropped his chicken and went to 3rd. His two chickens he took auctioned off at $300. The remaining three chicken we will butcher in the next week. Then in early September we’ll get some chicks through the mail, and start raising laying hens. This should be fun.
Now we just have football and school starting in 10 days. Where did summer go?
Mike - is the new facility a multipurpose activity center? A lot of parishes are building them.
Roy - Glad the rain held off for you. Moving is never fun but moving in the rain is miserable.
Bob - Is the motor home yours or the clubs?
Kev - Happy birthday! This will be one you’ll remember. I am glad you are feeling better. Take care of the back and the bumps!
Fife - Sounds like a relaxing day at the cabin.
May God bless
Passing through. Too hot and humid to go out and do anything. 114 heat index.
Getting ready to take a vacation with Wifey. First in years together. One usually stays home and babysits. Oldest is coming and moving in while we are gone. She is out of work due to knee replacement. Gets around good with cane. BTW: all crooks reading, don't try anything. She was LE and shoots good.
All stay healthy and safe.

Did nothing today. Finished reading a book. Church is connected to school that was built in 2012. There are some meeting rooms involved and all sorts of auxilliary areas that just waste space. Church was supposed to take care of needs for next 100 years and this morning it was already full. They cut down on the number of services so basically people from 2 masses are now going to one. Hmmmmm????? I hope everyone has a good day.
Aloha. Had a pleasant weekend. Volunteered to help out at a conference at church Th and Fr, hacked back the wisteria on Sat, and went to the Threshing Bee out at Sycamore (IL) on Sun. Lots of steam tractors, the big stationary Corliss engine and this year, a narrow-gauge real-steam layout. I'd like to experiment with a live-steam engine in O gauge. Nothing like real steam on a steamy day. Thought of you, Kev. Glad to hear you are resting as part of your recovery. 8n and Charlie, I would love to visit that part of Michigan someday. Roy, was it really 107? Wow, that's hot. Here it might say 'feel's-like-100' but that's not the air temp. Jim, our county fair just ended too. I love watching the 4H kids at the auctions. Glad the kids were so successful.

Mornin' FellasHad a nice weekend relaxing around the house and getting some stuff done. Was 'cool' enough yesterday morning so I mowed the drying jungle, then it rained last night so the lawn looks OK today... we will see what the day's heat does to it throughout the day, more storms being called for today through Wednesday (end of day heat storms... lovely). TheQ leaves today for Kalamazoo Michigan for two days of training (she is the trainer). Seems her business contacts are starting to funnel business to the company she works for... will be interesting to see how this all pans out... may be the start of a consulting business if she can drum up a few more clients????Fife - sounds like a good time, and a reset is always a good thing at the right time. Been thinking of picking up a new rod and reel for me and 2 for the kids and getting them involved in some outdoor activities. Also going to be getting my 15yo MT bike and TheQ's trail bike serviced so we can start riding with the kids. We both need to lose some lbs (me 35 by 3/17/2017 as directed by my cardiologist). Gonna be tough, but I'll make it happen. Haven't seen the underside of 200 since 1996.Probe - I've learned a new appreciation for what you do with Probes. Been watching a lot of restoration shows and their theme is typically "If you can do it yourself and not spend more than the restored car is worth, then by all means do it. If you're doing it for fun and have the disposable income, then that is your choice." LOL.Spoke with my niece's boyfriend last night and he wants to reduce, eliminate, the turbo lag. Problem is all the modifications we found either, don't do anything for turbo lag, or result in premature turbo failure ($$$$$ to replace the turbo), or result in the engine warranty being voided. I told him to leave it as it is, and when the engine dies, drop a small V6 in there if he likes the car that much. Can't remember what else I was going to post, since I started this 2 hours ago an got involved in other stuff... LOL

Good afternoon everyone,
Watched some pre-season football on Sunday. Also watered my redwood tree outside my window. Three years of age, already five feet tall. We have a lot of redwood trees here at the home. We have at least one cougar that roams the hills above the retirement home, we also have deers, skunks, raccoons, wild turkeys, kit foxes, rattlesnakes, owls and hawks.
Prayers to everyone. G BEAR
Good afternoon all,
Had to log in again to get on forum. Maybe it does that when you haven't posted for a while.
Went to TTOS Southwestern Division annual picnic this past Saturday at the L.A. Live Steamers located in Griffith Park. We had lots of food and train rides, sort of. They usually operated on Sundays only and once a month I think but they opened up just for us and one other group on Saturday. The weather was pretty hot but there was ample shade there. I thought we had exclusive use of the place but the other group made it crowded. After eating we waited in line for a long time for a train ride. We finally gave up and went back for more food. It turns out that there was a train derailment somewhere on their layout and everything got delayed. Also they seemed to running just two trains after that which was not enough to handle the load. We stood in line a second time but finally gave up. High point of the day was a visit to the Walt Disney Barn which his family donated to the LALS. It was on his backyard railroad in Homby Hills. He used it for a workshop for his live steamers. It was paterned after a barn on the farm where he grew up but downsized. It was like a small museum inside. His favorite engine, Lillybell named for his wife, was not there but is in the Walt Disney Museum in San Francisco. However they had another engine of the same type, a 4-4-0 on display and one of Walt's original cars on loan from S.F. There was also an English steam engine, a 4-6-2 which Walt bought over there and brought home. It got salt water damage somehow in shipping and has never been run. All his live steam on his Carolwood Pacific Railroad were of the 1 1/2 inch scale. They are big enough to ride on. The LALS venue has really grown since I first saw it over 45 years ago. They have a lot more track now. When we were there, they only ran one steam engine and some diesels (gas powered). They also ran some fake steam like Thomas the Tank and a 4-4-0 also gasoline powered. They run a lot more steam during their regular meets and they have a big meet in May I think where people bring engines from all over to run. Anyway, it was a fun day. I went with friend Larry and another TTOS member.

Nice weather for the weekend with temperatures in the 80's and low 90's. Went back to the State Fair on Sunday. We had a nice time wandering through the display buildings - the ones that house the kid's 4H exhibits, the art gallery, the quilts etc, etc. Truck and tractor pull was going on Sunday, so the background 'music' was provided by big healthy V8's at full song.
The terrier mix pup that my wife brought home a couple of months ago is turning out to be a real handfull. Got to keep at the training. He is making progress, though.
V8 - I agree. Driving slow cars fast is fun. One of my favorite cars that I've owned was a 1973 Trimuph Spitfire. 1500 pounds, 68hp 4 cylinder, top speed of something like 85 mph with the top up and the wind at the back. But it would corner like it was on rails.
About all for now.
Morning all. No real big news here. About a month ago I got a deal on Ebay for the Bicentennial cars, I bought them to resell and sell they did. Had my yearly colon exam yesterday all went as expected, nothing to really worry about.
Prayers for all in need,
Talk to you all later
GBear - A cougar? At a retirement village? Say it ain't so...
Mornin' boys. Oh, like you weren't thinking that also. Sunny & 72 in the Mid-Atlantic region. The early evening thunderboomers have given the lawn a reprieve. Youngest princess is with her bestie's family in Myrtle Beach all week. Having your house on the market means sending your children with others to enjoy a vacation, because you are perenialy waiting for "the call".
Fifedom passed its radon test, so that's good news.
88 - when you get a new reel, don't let the staff string it to the very top of the spool. Today's "high tech" string likes to birds nest during a cast if there's too much on the spool. Good luck with weight loss. I should be doing the same. For my part, I have switched to "skinny" beer.
Chief - Glad to see you are alive and well. Miss talking to you regularly.
SPMan - the Disney RR collection sounds interesting.
rt - congrats on "passing" your test. I am on a roll today.
Aloha. Rain missed us again. Happy very belated bday Kev. Sailing season rapidly coming to a close so I have to get out there a few more times before Labor Day. Brent, fishing with your youngsters is a great idea. We enjoyed our local ponds, using basic bamboo poles. You reminded me I have a 30 year old mountain bike hanging in the garage I should lube and replace the tires before fall. Still works great.
Hi All, I have been out of it for a few days and I mean OUT-OF-IT.
Man I had a messed up weekend by stopping the drugs I was on as the doctor told me to stop them. Now I know that 3 of the 5 he had me on are strong narcotics and seems that in the 5 weeks I was on them my body got hooked and I had a bad withdrawal attack, It was so bad and worst was I did not feel like I was in control of my own self. So I had to go back on them at a lower level so I can step down to get off. I feel much better today, It was scary.
One would think a doctor would know to tell you this could happen. I am sick of being sick and have lost 9 LB in two weeks, The medical industry today!!!
On the train front,
Here is the Lionel 616 Flying Yankee set I got from my neighbor that needed some work. Special thanks to Hudson John for the wheel and axle work!!! Still not sure if I want to re-paint the engine or not.
Good afternoon from Beautiful 82°F Southern Ohio,
It has been raining off and on the past few days. We’ll see if we get football practice in tonight. We have a scrimmage game Wednesday. The boys are looking forward to that.
Kev – That withdrawal is scary. You have been and will continue to be in my prayers.
RT – Glad the exam went good
8N – the terriers can be headstrong, good luck
GBear – Your home sounds like a nation park!
Doug – Thanks; we are very proud of how well the kids did this year. They are already planning projects for next year.
Hello Jim,
Go to GOOGLE EARTH and type in YOUNTVILLE, CA. under search. The retirement home is due west of the town of Yountville. I've been here for almost 15 years. It's a great place to live and a real blessing.

Hey all,
It must be opposites day as the high was low 80's when the norm is 96/97 and we just got off a high of 107 a couple of days ago. And the 10 day forecast is for high 80's/low 90's with some rain. I'll take that all day long.
G Bear - ignoring Fifers "comments" - I did have a vision of you watering a 20 ft dia 200 ft tree out your window.
Kev - that certainly is a "flying" Yankee. Nice job!
