Brent, didn't know the Q had been sick.  Glad she is better.  Kids growing I'm sure.

Chief - About a month ago she had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic her Dr put her on and she suffered Stephens Johnson Syndrome (or something along that name) it can be fatal, and from talking with her the next day apparently this was the 3rd time she has had the reaction to an antibiotic, and it was the worst of the 3. It took her out energy wise for about 3 days. I remember seeing her lying on the bathroom tile and thinking "You better get her to the hospital and quick", but I asked her and she said "NO! Just let me lay here and cool off." Never again will I ask, it will be an immediate 911 call as there is no way I could get her into a car and the kids and to an ER.

Matthew is still as inappropriate as ever when interacting with women... he has somehow learned the husky, sensual, "Hello" and the women just eat it up - of course his 'look at me I'm cute' smile goes along with it. He is walking very good, and is learning new words just about everyday. Tonight we had a bit of a scare because he fell and cut his head on the armoire in our bedroom. Head wounds really bleed, especially when the child has a hard time calming down, as soon as he calmed down I was able to get the bleeding to stop and get some ice on it. I need to get some butterfly bandages because I have a feeling this one is going to leave a scar.

Christina is just as sweet as can be. Tonight we downloaded 'Frozen Free Fall' (a kind of match game) and she really picked it up quick, at one point she said "That was awesome!" another phrase that was new for her. Her favorite movie is Frozen and she is starting to sing more and more of the songs (correctly) and also recite portions of the movie. Her learning is exceptional.

Brent, thanks for the update.  Glad Susie Q is doing OK.  Kids use to be babies [I remember when you brought them both home].  Growing fast.  Keep me posted and post some photos.

Home Depot is crap.  Their folks here are great.  Big shots stink.  I have been promised a call from "Management Team" for 5 days now.  Not word from them but a call from Atlanta saying you will get a call tomorrow.  Never comes.  Looks like the big wheels a Home Depot do not care for their customers.  Had trouble with them about ten years ago and would not set foot in their stores until about a 6 months ago [except when I wired the Box, Lowes here did not carry that large of a gauge wire, does now].  Will not go back again.  Shame as Wifey redoing appliances in kitchen too.  Will be several thousand that will be Kenmore now.

Headed to lake house.  Call from one neighbor.  Next door neighbor has been gone over a month to see his son in San Diego.  Came home and his shop had been broken into and lots stolen.  We do not have that in this subdivision.  Strange.  He did tell me everything looked OK from the outside at my place.  Need to go mow anyway.

Crazy weather up north.  Cold in the summer time.  Flooding.  Send those rains to CA.

Greetings from a very foggy Colorado Springs. Up visiting family and just came back from a trip to the rez in South Dakota.  Will be in CO for another week. 

Saw a lot of trains, especially coal drags, on the way to SD. Saw one w/ a NS engine and thought of the Chief:)

Don - good to hear your are still on the mend

SPRay - hope you are doing better this week

Chief - HD used to have some bad business practices in eliminating the small hardware stores. They would overbuild to get rid of the competition and then eventually close their own stores and put even more people out of work. Don't know if this has changed or not. I will use Lowes on occaison, but will always go to Ace first and use the one real lumberyard we have left in town (also a True Value). Liking the Kenmore idea, go Sears:)

RT - I heard that they were burning off the remaining Agent Orange in Gulfport, MS when I was there for training in the 80's. Seabee bases get some the strangest things. 

Did I mention the Corvan started the Sunday before I left for Colorado? Big moment and by gosh it ran pretty well considering the adjustments were mimimal. Meant a lot to me as a lot has happened since I bought it almost 6 years ago. 

Going up to see the Colorado Railroad Musuem in Golden w/ my brother. Will prob see another of Don's 'geese'. We will stay overnight and then go to the NHRA drags w/ the nephews who will drive up to meet us on Sunday.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes....it's good to be back.

John:  I was able to set up a stretch of tubular track to see how the tune-up on the NW2's turned out.  The 634 performed good albeit it's a bit noisy due to it's sheet metal frame.  Still, it pulls smoothly away from a stop and probably would have been an even better performer had the track been cleaned properly.  It paled in comparison to the C&O 624 from a decade earlier.  The sheer heft and it's cast frame and trucks makes it much quieter.  The superior gearing plus magnetraction really helps in making it run smooth as silk.

While digging around for the track last night I came across some Lionel accessories I'd forgot I had bought 5 years ago.   10 really nice 71 lamp posts, a post war oil derrick, an operating switch tower and small station.  That's almost reason enough to build a tinplate layout, right?

Did I hear Corvan?  I think the Chief will remember me selling my Greenbrier to Mike Leeth down around his way.  Sure wish I still had it.

Nice sunny day here in the mid 70's. I like it when we get a polar vortex in the summertime! Chief - I've got to pick on you here. When I grew up in Yankeeland, we drank pop, not soda. After setting up at the museum last Saturday, I decided that I am short on straight sections. I'll get that fixed with a trip to the LHS in the near future to obtain four 30" straights sections. All for now.

Good Evening All,

Things OK here, we're getting a little tired of watching James Bond movies though.  Chris had a collection of about 20 or so, and that's what been doing.  Kay had a Dr appoint today, went OK but Dr not happy with incision progress so he wants to do a minor out patient procedure, ASAP.  My leg is doing a LOT better, the first week after the cast was off was not very comfortable but doing a lot better now.  Funny the two of us make a pair, I can get around but can't carry anything.  Kay can get around, can carry stuff with one arm, but no lifting or bending.  And she isn't suppose to be roaming around much, so I try to do most.  Then when Chris is around he does.  Sure will be great when we get back to normal.  Soon!!

Can't believe all the issues with the washers and dryers!  What happened to customer service?  Its really sad what we have to put up with today.  We sure aren't what I would call a service based economy anymore either.   And I think it will only get worse.

Fife, Sounds like you and daughter is having a great time cruising up and down the coast.  Surprised you dont have more young men tagging along.

Doug, I'm sure you must have posted some fotos of your trip, where would I find them?

I've been thinking a lot about Joe climbing Mt. Fuji, what a memorable experience. 

Also, Congrats to Hudson and his son.

Submmbob,  I hope to get up there and tour the area.  There are 3 Geese in the area.  Various municipalities have them.  Telluride, Dolores, and the Museum.  Glad you having a good time, you deserve it.

The weather has been warm around here, and humid, (for us anyway).  Now there threatening with $200 fines for wasting water.  The cities are the worst offenders that I see.

Hello all

Yes, I have a 1962 Chevrolet Corvair panel van. Just started it w/ a later model car engine in it that someone gave me several years back. This will give me some time to rebuild the original (like I haven't had it almost 6 years already:).

Went to visit a nice little train shop here in C. Springs. Custom Railway Supply. I try to 'lighten' him of some item whenever I visit. This time I picked up a whistling freight station circa early 1990's still in the box. 

Now I need to have my brother dig out his Flyer transformer so we can test it:)

Aloha. A sunny but much cooler day here in Chicago, as Lake Michigan's ice cold water and this blasted Arctic air keep everything brisk this summer. Actually I don't mind it - but actually like heat and humidity. It's 25 degrees below the normal. Sheesh!  

Smbob, we need more recent photos of the Corvan. Congratulations on the milestone. I can't wait to hear about your visit to the CRM. I wish I could ride a Goose someday. (Maybe when Don goes back to KBF)

I haven't seen a hot rod in awhile here in the birthplace of hot rods their nearly extent now. Kids today don't care about cars which absolutely boggles my mind. I never saw this coming.

Don't worry Vega - Christina's got this covered. Yesterday when we were getting ready to leave for daycare she climbed into the driver seat. I told her to get back to her car seat and she said "NO! I NEED to be here so I can learn to drive!" O... M... G... she is ONLY 3 years old!!!!!!

Update on the kiddos - well you've read what Christina has been up to... Matthew has apparently been trying to test how think/strong his skull is. On Monday he was climbing the door gate to his classroom and fell and bumped the back of his head on the floor (has a nice lump the size of half an egg), then Monday night we were Skyping with my parents and he decided to play bumper cars with the bench at the foot of our bed and the armoire... well he bumped off the bench, staggered, tripped, and hit his forehead on the armoire, fell to his knees, got up, turned to me and had blood trickling down his face... got him calmed down and the blood flow stemmed, put a Band-Aid on his forehead with some Neosporin. I am really thinking about buying him one of those helmets for the 'slow' kids... I've never seen a kid bang his head as much as he does!

He has also found a new 'friend'. For Christmas last year Santa brought Christina a talking Minion from Despicable Me2. Well Matthew has learned how to make Tim talk, and he then repeats what Tim said... it is VERY comical! He is learning new words nearly every day. Apparently he likes dogs, but calls them kitty cat (?), and likes bears (he is very good at growling like a bear too).

Now if I could only find some time to get back to working on the train garden!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Still cloudy here in the Springs, but the sun is out. 

Doug - the CRM has a nice little collection there. Looking forward especially to seeing their goose and the Pikes Peak cog steam locomotive. And I keep forgetting to take the camera over to Bill's when I work on the van. I also forgot to bring it on this trip May use my phone if I can figure out how to get them off of it. Hoping the bro has a camera that takes an SD card so I can download them onto the Chromebook which I did bring. 

Dennis - I always see a fair number of old cars and trucks when crossing Nebraska to the rez. When you have the space I guess you just keep them. Many of the older trucks are still in use. There was a red & white Chevrolet Apache pick up in a salvage yard on the rez that I would have liked to take home:)

And yes money and time are two things that never seem to go together.

Taking care of a few odd jobs around mom's house. I did a fair bit of work on it when I lived up here 12+ years ago. Today I think I will organize some more stuff in the garage and see what tools I have for the next project.

Good morning all,

My computer is painfully slow today.  It has taken me about 45 minutes just to get on the forum this morning.  I think I need a new computer.

I have gotten over my food poisoning or whatever it was.  Also ran across some suspect ham steaks in the refrigerator that were old but not past the due date.  They are sealed in plastic but started to swell up.  I threw the whole mess in the trash.  Will try to get a refund from Costco.

Good news that Don and Kay are making progress.  My wife and I are coping with her memory problems but are learning to live with it.  She still enjoys most things and has no mobility problems.  We still take walks every day.  Would  like to take a trip to the beach one of these days.  I think it would be good to see the ocean again.  I was raised near the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean.  I miss it.  Tired of looking at brown dead grass on the hills.

Talked to a  friend last night about his 93 year old father who he finally had to put in an assisted living place.  It is very expensive. Cost $5400 per month.  He said his father had to sell his house to pay for the place he's in now.  Not something to look forward too.  I think I would have to opt for outside help to come in and stay in your own house.  There are other options.  Medical care for seniors out here seems to be the new gold mine in California.

Went to my bi monthly caregiver meeting yesterday.  Had a good turn out.  One attendee was a 97 year old lady who is caring for a 101 year old husband.  The nice thing listening to her comments was that they are still in love after 70 years of marriage.  Young people take note.  Whatever happened "until death us do part".

My friend Larry is off on a trip to ride a special train from Denver to Cheyenne on Union Pacific's annual rodeo train.  No steam engine this time as they are all in the shop.  They will use the U.P. E unit passenger diesels probably.  I would'nt drive across the street to ride that.  You can ride behind diesels here so why drive all the way to Denver.

Ray, Our CHF support group is on hiatus til September, unfortunately we have lost a few of the attendees this past year. It has been a great help to the wife and I, but I think moreso for the wife than I.

Weather has been great the past few days, humidity quite high but the temps were well down into the mid to upper 70's and solid cloud cover. Unfortunately the heat is coming back far to soon.  

Museum duty this friday as well as being the "chef-du-jour" for lunch. Chicken Corn Chowder is the planned menu unless the weather gets to miserabley hot.

Don & Kay, Making positive progress. ( one each) But there is really only ONE James Bond, Sean Connery !

Forgot what else I wanted to say.

The Big News here is that my son passed the psych evaluation for the Police Department yesterday. Tomorrow he goes for his blood work and his physical. The first week of August he starts the Academy. Our Granddaughter Kali is doing great and she recognizes people and voices. For some reason she laughs at me! At Mom's yesterday and today. Took her for circulation tests for her legs today. Waiting for the results. Then we went food shopping. That is always an adventure. lol I have been going thru the collection that I got from my friend Fred. A lot of nice stuff that needs some TLC. The NJ State Ice Cream Festival in Toms River this Saturday and as usual my wife, Doray's, Ice Cream Shop will participate in the competition. Lat year they took First Place on the Special Judges Panel and Second Place on Peoples Choice. Yes, we will have ice cream again at York in April!

Banks: Congrats to your Grandson on his win! I am hoping for the Championship for him. Glad the crops are doing good.

Brent: Frozen is my Grandniece Lily's Favorite Movie also. She sings the songs also. Come to think of it she is 3 also. Matthew is a real boy. Enjoy him. Glad the Q is doing better.

Chief: Hope everything is ok at the Lake House. Good Luck with Home Depot. Most of our appliances come from Sears.

Bob: Great news about the Corvan! That Station is a nice piece. The museum sounds cool. Speaking of Chevy Apache pickups, I have a 1961 Chevy Apache 20, with an 8ft Stepside Bed which is my next Resto project.

Bruce: Finding stuff that you bought and forgot about it is like Christmas all over again!

8n: In Jersey we call it SODA not POP. First time I heard it called pop, I was 6 years old in Pennsylvania and had no idea what the guy was talking about!

Roy: A Sears Kenmore dryer is a good choice.

Don: I hope the procedure for Kay's incision goes well. Glad everything else  for both of you is healing well. As for a service economy, it is tough when almost everything is made in China and the attitude is just give them some money back off of the price because we can't fix it anyway because parts are not available.

SPMan, Ray: Senior care is out of control all over the Country. I am glad that I was able to retired when I did to take care of my mom when she was diagnosed with cancer and now help her out. My prayers out to you, your wife and the rest of your family.

Doug Da Grump: Enjoy the museum. When things settle down I am looking forward to some volunteer work also.

Afternoon all. well checking prices on dz1000's with controller as I now have 4 Ross switches that need switch machines. going to make a few siding on the changing layout I'm still working on. not sure if I want to use two to do a cross over between tracks or I want to just use the 4 to make 4 sidings from it. leaning towards the 4 siding at the moment. 

Not much else going on here today. It's to hot but need to get up early and replace the power box in the ceiling so I can replace the ceiling fan as the one in there now is 3 1/2" and I need the 4" style the 3 1/2" will work no way period have tried it a couple of different ways.
