Then the Proto 1 F3 won't fire up.  Is it any wonder I'm becoming more and more conventional...Sigh

Fife, if nothing is wrong with the motors, I would put in a reverse unit and rip out the electronics.  At least you could run it then.  I had this done with a set of ACL proto 1 F units I have.  I have no horn or bell now but it runs.  I suppose I could add a horn to a dummy unit.

Aloha. I don't mind the snow so much as the cold. it got so cold we had to replace the battery on my son's car which resides outside. And it's supposed to get even colder come Monday... Bring on the global warming! We only got a foot of new snow, so Jack is still 'winning'.

Laz, the Bears got a lot of work to do but at least they have a QB for a few more years. Good day to work on the layout...

Ohhh, so this is what Green Bay, Wisconsin feels like... Ick!  Took fifeMax to the vet for his check-up.  He has an ear infection.  He then pulled me across the parking lot which had a fine coating of ice.  I probably sounded like Yosemite Sam, "Whoa horse!"  Shoveled fifedom, now I am spent.

Could not resurrect the Proto-1 F3. Sigh  Bit the dust after 17 years, I guess.

No problems staying frosty today, Laz.

BURRRR!!!!!  Cold and windy.  Actually temps dropped this AM at sun up.  Not going back up much.  COLD tonight but warmer tomorrow.

Not as bad as Yuz Giz up Nawth.

Had blood draw this AM for the Urologist.  Apt for follow up next week.

Will stay in today if possible.  Wifey may run errand and then go north to her sisters in VA.

I will go to lake house later this afternoon, turn up heat and check everything OK.  Property owners board meeting at 7.  Drive back as "baby sitting".

Stay warm all.

Hello all

Been a while since I posted on this forum. Was working since May on a project in New Mexico which is now complete as to my part in it and I am back up on Mt. Graham. Thought I would share this story w/ you guys. Pardon if it's a bit long winded.

Looking for some 7" Marx tin to go w/ a 666 I acquired not too long back. Since I already have the NYC cars for the 999 I thought I would look for some SP stuff. Found a whole set of cars in w/ a 7" SP caboose and... the Marx SP E unit powered and dummy  units...for a darn good price.

Now there is an interesting story about E unit locos for me. I have a resentment against them. Show me an Alco PA and I'm a happy guy, but an EMD E or F unit and I cringe. No, it's not an EMD/Alco thing, although some of you know I am partial to Alcos having worked on them.

It goes back to when I must have been about 8. I had an HO Tyco set, and was looking to add my next engine come that Christmas. We had just seen the American Freedom Train come thru Phoenix that summer and I was enamored w/ the #4449. I really wanted a steam locomotive and thought the Daylight version of the #4449 in HO would be great. Not really knowing what to ask for I think I wrote that I wanted an 'orange and black locomotive'. I awoke Christmas day hoping to receive my new Daylight. Sure enough under the tree was the right sized box. When the time came I tore off the paper to find an Athearn(?) Blue Box and opened it to reveal...a Southern Pacific Daylight orange and black E unit diesel. I think the steam loco was out of the budget my parents wanted to spend and not wanting to disappoint them I tried to be positive. Inside I was crushed. Now in it's defense it was a good engine for the time. Heavy, a real creeper, and it made a kind of diesel like noise going down the track. I grew to appreciate it, but somehow it always seem to be what it should have been in my eyes.

Most of my HO stuff went to a father/son who wanted to make a layout about 12 years ago. A few years ago I got into O gauge in the process a resurrecting my father's Lionel #258. Now I could probably never afford a steam Daylight in O gauge nor  have the space to run it, but boy did I focus on steam in my O gauge additions. The few diesels are heavily outnumbered. The 'scrappers torch' Lionel scene of the front end of an SP E unit being cut up always gave me a chuckle.

Since I started going 'Marxist' I have run across various versions of their diesels. Something about the colors and the lithograph on their Daylight seemed intriguing. Well now things have come full circle and I will have another E unit on the roster and even its associated dummy unit.

You want to hear the really funny part? The electric motor unit in the powered unit unit employs, for reasons I think trying to keep things inexpensive in true Marx fashion  ... the motor out of one of their steam engines underneath the shell:)

Jack - take care in that weather

It is now 1 degree, minus 20 with the wind chill factor.  Coastal flooding expected with the high tide.  The sea swells are at 20-40 feet.  The winds will continue overnight at a blizzard clip, 35mph sustained.  My snow levels are now expected to top 2 feet, though I think I am already there.  The drifting is the killer......you clear an area and the wind just carries the snow back where you shovelled.  The city plows have the end of my driveway buried.  The dogs are hard pressed to find a spot to "empty the tanks" and Dobermans don't have fur; so Pam has been putting their Winter coats on them.....they look pathetic.  I want to get up early in the morning to get a jump on things with snow removal.  It is going to take hours to clear this stuff from the driveway, sidewalks, stairs, stoops, and the deck.  Then I will have to snowblow part of the yard for the dogs.

DOUG......my New Years Eve adult beverage inventory was adequate to weather any storm as was the amount of food we had.  But with 9 kids accompanying the adults, I would have gone crazy if they were all forced to stay over......unless, of course, I had enough shovels to go around.  I may be getting old but I pride myself at making the best of the bad hands dealt me.   :-)  Spank.....my overnight is due to the moisture you are sending my way.  Please stop!!!!  Jack

Jack, Look on the bright side, just think had this storm rolled in when you had a houseful of guests on New Year's Eve. Would you have had enough "adult beverages" to weather the storm, with food being of a secondary nature ? Dunce

Christmas Trains all put away til next year. Tomorrow's trains packed and ready to go at the museum tomorrow.

Stay safe all.

G'nite y'all.

We are getting hammered.  Total snowfall forecast at 18-24 inches for me, high winds 35+ mph sustained with gusts over 50, and temperatures plummeting into the single digits.  Round 4 of snow removal to commence shortly.  What a mess!!!!  Jack.

Good evening all,

Lots of Snohio here in SE Indiana.  Stayed in the Tree City today and saw "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", which featured briefly a soccer game.  It was a good movie.  Afterwards went to Frisch's and then to Aldi's and then home for the evening.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

SNOHIZO is here.  Hope my family all makes it home safe tonight.

Aloha from a frigid and snowy Chicago. We were without Internet and TV for an unspeakably long time due to some switch-over issues. But I read a lot of old CTTs and played with trains. We had the opportunity to stay in downtown Chicago for a few days around New Years - to celebrate Laz's birthday of course.  It just snowed like crazy but we walked around the Loop, visited the Art Institute and had lunch under the big tree at Fields uh Macys. Just got back in time to clear the driveway and get ready for work.  Waving the snow bye-bye as it heads east. Now the cold returns. And more snow.

Good morning all,

Another warm day today at 80 degrees.  Tough weather but somebody has to deal with it.

Grandson went flying with his radio controlled airplane (P51 Mustang) New Years Eve day.  Crashed into a tree top while attempting to land and had to leave it until today because it was up very high in tree.  An expert in the club met them this morning at the airfield and they were able to rescue the plane after an hour and a half of trying.  I have yet to see him fly it.  He wants to become more proficient before performing in front of an audience.  Heck, I told him that I crash trains all the time in front of people.  No problem!

Have a good day,

Ray

Laz, Happy B'day, here's your cake:

Chef Laugh

Great day at the museum yesterday with no-pileups and great lunch with our spouses, many more visitors than any of us expected. Only one slow time, I guess most people were taking late lunches.
Last day for the Christmas Trains, started breaking them down last night after reclinerizing for awhile when I got home.
Sounds like some of you are in for a ruff few days from Mother Nature, stay warm & safe.
Need to get back to work, later all !

Mornin' boys.  S'posed to start out as rain, and end as snow in the Mid-Atlantic region.  I'm still on vacation, so I don't care what it does.  Grandson is here all day.  He's dressed like Uncle Si...Laugh  I've been calling him Duckling Commander.  Clown  I threw a loop of Fastrack under the tree, and he has been "exercising" some of my Proto 1 fleet.  No crashes yet, but tis early...

Good morning all,

Spent a pleasant day mostly at home.  Watched "Throw Momma from the Train", ran both the 384E Classic and the O-27 layout, and started building the LEGO Haunted House.  Much easier to build as the part packets are labeled according to which phase of the construction that is needed.  Very relaxing.  Big snow coming to SE Indiana perhaps.  May delay our trip to Cincy by a day or two.   Could get used to this non-working lifestyle.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
