The flu is going around here and now I have it.
I hope you got a flu shot V8,
The daughter just lost a friend who was 28 to the H1 N1 flu virus and as you would think no flu shot because at that age you are above the flu. Prayers for her family. At my age if you did not get one your just stupid. JMHO BTW,,, Cheerios on the dining car won't help, no matter what you think. Adds here are not alowed I thought.
My friend Blaze is going down fast. It seems all of the chemotherapy treatments they have tried are not working. They have one more treatment to try. Things look bad.
And we all think we have problems!
Prayers for you DougM.
Those in the bad weather be smart and safe.

Good evening all,
Got the newest CTT today. Have to read it. Work was better. Back to normal for now until it gets messed up again. Older daughter and grandkids were down here today. Watched Arrow. It was good. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Jack,
I would've gladly traded the odor of Mobil 1 ATF for gas. That ATF smells like gear lube, and it's even more fun when the pump fails and more fluid ends up on me than in the Tremec 3650 trans that I was refilling.
Brent,
If your Dad has more money to dispose of, the local Ford dealer has a 2014 GT that I'd like some help with ;)

Good night all. Cold. Snow gone except in shaded areas [like the steps and deck to the Box front door]. Speaking of the Box, the Trane heatpump works great. Had to take the TWC techs in to check the cable box. They walked in and said, "Oh my God." They thought it was a man cave or shop until then.
Got early meeting in Raleigh. Not going. Cold and going to try and sleep in for a change. Wifey's Greatniece spent the night last night. Did not get a good restful sleep as she took my spot in bed with Wifey. Poor old Frank had to sleep else where. Reclinerized until 4:30 this AM without waking. Too "late" to go upstairs to guest bedroom. Went back to sleep in new Lazyboy. Up at 6AM.
Yes Kev, everyone should get a flu shot.
Sleep tight.

Hello all
Back home in the Ol' Pueblo. Nice to see Clawde again. He got another misting and some water in his dish. I'll toss the rest of the crickets in tomorrow.
Coming home I saw some excitement near Benson, AZ. Someone towing a uhaul had lost the hitch. Goog thing they had those safety chains installed. Looked like a big metal cutoff saw going down the road w/ all the sparks. Almost thought of trying to double back, and then I saw that the brake lights were on and obviously trying to get it pulled over.
Went to the Corvair club meeting tonight ans picked up a couple of oil filters. We get them in a lot from Napa and the club makes a little bit on each. Saves like $4 a filter for me.
Yes, Chief, still doing the Corvair thing. There are a couple of brake hoses sitting on the table here that need to go on the car tomorrow. And slowly but surely the Corvan is coming together.

Brent - Well, the laptop wouldn't boot up. Took it back to Staples. I was patient and the store General Manager futzed with it for 10 minutes, I sat there calmly. He went in the back and I got a brand new Toshiba. Safe to say I was more than pleased.
Now I have to figure out how to get Windows 8 from booting up...it wants everything through a MSN account..geez thanks, but I have Gmail, I don't need a MSN account as well.
I did play with it for a bit after set up, just have to get used to the address bar being on the bottom.
So far so good...
back to work ...

Good Morning from Blueberryhill.......
Good Morning, Joe......
It is a cold 12 degrees. No new snow, yet. Going up to 17 today.
Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping and I am doing a few chores. We will be busy until lunch. Then, a nice nap.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Chuck
Dining car has Cheerios for breakfast.
Mornin' FellasThink TheQ and I are coming down with something... may need to call the Dr... Christina has been playing with her Brio Thomas stuff. She likes to setup large tracks and then run long trains (she learned quick). We have found the motorized engines must be geared differently because Thomas runs slow, Percy a little faster, and Lady even faster... so she had a lot of pile-ups! or as she calls them 'trains fall down'. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that being a father could be so enjoyable and rewarding.RedFire - seems his 'wad o' cash' only comes out when grandchildren are involved... What's up with that?

I got up 4:30 AM,,,-8 degrees. Wind chill- 24 the lane and roads are passable. So I sent the Wife to work. Then Back to bed.
Well I am awake, never can do a good job of going back to bed. Sunny and -2 out there. The wind and blowing never made it to as bad as they thought. Glad for that.
Hope you had a flu shot Brent.
Guess I will have some of those round HoneyNut things with Raspberries and banana.
All I can say is stay warm and stay safe out there.
Rich I'm not a big fan of win 8 but here something you might want to do open windows click on the gear in the top left corner click on internet options change your home page from msn to yahoo or what ever you want then you can go from there like you use to. it gets rid of the msn home page.

Mornin' fellas and gals; Doin' a lot of indoorsy stuff today due to extreme cold. Got plenty of firewood. Wifey just loves the Hearthstone wood stove we have; keeps the house nice and warm. Looking out at the lake, there hasn't been much activity since Thanksgiving. Ah! Nothing like a union job to keep everyone employed whether they are working or not. later.
Think good thoughts, do good deeds!
Good morning all,
Jack, I had a trickle charger once when I had a trailer and needed to keep the battery up on that. I think I sold it along with the trailer. I need to drive the Buick a little anyway to keep the tires round and to keep the seals from drying out.
Need to get a smog inspection today on my 96 Honda. Seems like I need one everytime on this car but it always passes.
Our son left for Florida this morning for car races. Will be gone until next week. Plan on cooking all the stuff he won't eat while he's away.
Sister in Florida was suppose to get impressions for new dentures yesterday. Hope she made it. They postponed her appointment once already which was suppose to be last week.
TCA meet on Saturday. Big Boy is moving out of fairground on Sunday. Hope to see it.
later,

Afternoon all. 36 degrees and sunny. Busy morning. Town stuff.
KEV, I didn't get to sleep in either. Finn [goldendoodle] came to bedside at 5 AM. Unusual for him. He went out and peed and pottied which this is unusual for him as he went out at 11:30 PM. Not much at going back to sleep either. Sat in recliner and watched news and some DVR'd things while drinking coffee. Thought I would reclinerize for some time. Wifey left for work and phone started with Town stuff. Then a called meeting at 10. WE are "bunch". Sending our wives off to work. My problem is that salary goes to her "fun" things she wants.
Lunch. I see a leftover Subway in the frig. Oh well.
Staying cold for a week. Another push of "Yankee happiness" tomorrow. Then slight warming and then another push next week.
Have a good one.
Fife -- there's an article in USA Today about Ukele's in public schools that I think you might enjoy!

So many roads, so little time.
Good Evnin' Y'all From Frigid Cape Ann,
It is silly for me to tell you guys it is frigid here, like it isn't frigid by you and I am experiencing something unique. Another night near zero is on tap again here with a decent breeze, bringing the wind chills down to about minus 20. It is so cold even the dogs don't want to go out.
One of my adjacent neighbors who tells his wife he does not smoke sneaks out of his house constantly for a smoke. He leaves the outside lights off so his wife can't see what he is doing. What is he thinking? Better yet, what is he telling his wife he's doing going outside in this kind of weather? And he's got to smell like smoke. Does this in the dark no less.
"Yes, dear, the reason I smell like smoke is because someone down the street has a fire going in their fireplace and the wood is wet, throws a lot of smoke our way."
He does OK with his ruse until I turn on my flood lights, open my back door, and let the dogs out. I have an e-fence to contain the dogs, so they can see into all of the nearby back yards. Sure enough, they immediately know someone is over by his place in the dark and they bark up a storm! Busted!!!
And yes, it has occured to me that it is not always cigarettes he is smoking.
Later, gang. Got to catch up on my POT reading. POT reading......that sounds funny, like this is a cannabis forum.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Hey traindood. At least you were smart enough to check the gas cap. Back around New Years when I got the 2 feet of snow, I went out with my snowblower and it conked out on me about thirty yards from the garage. I was positive I had gas.
I fussed and fumed trying to start it by hand, then pushed it back to the garage where I had light and I could use the electric start. Fuming, I went inside to grab a cup of coffee and to warm up.
Wifey asks me if perhaps it ran out of gas. "Not a chance, I checked it last night." So I go back out and check the gas tank, empty. Filled it up and off I went. Later the wife asks me how I got the snowblower started and I told her the carb must have sucked in some snow but all is ok now.
KEV.....you have my prayers still for your friend Blaze. And for your daughter's friend. Yes, the flu can kill. And it does. Shot or no, some people try to tough it out figuring that it will go away on its own and that they will feel better "tomorrow."
Chief.....re your wife's great grand niece's visit.....sometimes when the grandkids spend the night they want to camp out by the fireplace. So Grampy agrees to join them and beds down on the couch. I don't sleep well on the couch. Re your pups' potty schedule, your dogs are not used to the cold and don't necessarily empty their tanks on schedule. Hope that is all it is with Fin.
BOB......Clawde the scorpion. I love it. My wife would send me packing if I wanted a scorpion as a pet!
SJ......I fear Nurse Kelly is torturing patient Doug.
JoeyD......there is no hope in Mudville. Or in the Bronx for that matter. I hope that the Yankee pitchers and catchers don't decide to opt for social security next month.
Brent.......I hope you and the Q are feeling better. If you both get sick at the same time the inmates will be running the asylum. And they are too young to do that. "Daddy, I want chocolate syrup on my breakfast cereal." "Go for it!"
Ray SP.....you are a good brother. I hope your sister did make her appointment. I hope you get get a picture or 10 of the Big Boy on Sunday.
LAZ......I think you would do better deer hunting with a rope or a big net. There is always next season. BTW.......dogs get frostbite easier than you may think. Keep an eye on Minnie.
Later, gang.
Jack.
Jack nice and quiet in the train room today I only had 6 trains running at once 5 on table layout and then the shelf layout going also. Still need to do some more wiring but its getting there at least all the track is down. Oh I did blue for you as in frigid blue
Very busy day at work, but all caught up on case reports. Will try to close tomorrow. Took the minivan to work as it is the only one with antilock brakes. Does not do any good to be able to go if you can't stop as well. Came home, went to grocery store for wife after eating supper, came home again and sat in chair and fell asleep. Did go for a walk outside today. Glasses frames were getting cold on my face so I had to duck inside places. Not used to this really cold weather. Does odd things to you. Maybe I should walk inside. Hate doing that if it is dry outside. I hope everyone has a good day.
Evening; Hey Chief; just read your E-mail. Sorry for being tardy. Tried to respond but gremlins prevented it. When children act up I always say; Oh behave!! Hey Jack; the tractor confession will be our secret. later.
Good night all. Windy and COLD. You Yanks sure like to share your misery.
Stayed busy all day. Did get a cold walk in. Tomorrow is not suppose to get above freezing which it did today. Try to stay in but I bet I get "called" outside.
Dood, I think things have suddenly calmed. That is good.
Hope all are doing OK and staying warm.
Evenin' All.
Brent, Better get used to it, the little ones will be bringing home all kinds of bugs to share with Mom & Dad for the forseeable future.
Spent an hour+ peeling and cleaning shrimp for tomorrow's lunch at the museum. Sorry you won't be able to join us Jon for Shrimp Creole, safe travels. Everything, including trains, packed and staged for early morning departure.
For all you guys in the frigid weather stay safe and warm, hard to believe they are calling for snow/freezing rain all the way to the Gulf Coast. Bbrrr.
Dennis, Sure hated to give up my Fierro but it was just to difficult to get in and out of with the Arthritis. That formula model was a blast to drive out on the country roads, it was unfortunate that GM scrapped the turbo model that literally would blow the doors off a Corvette. Oh well, trains are cheaper and easier to store.
for all those in need.
Time to call it a nite.
Night all !

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,
I ran out of time to post last night as I had to get to sleep early since I had to be at work at 0430 this morning. The workday seemed to drag and I left about 1715. The kids and I are on our own tonight as the wife is playing Bunco with the other wives from the office.
Jack – There is plenty of hope for the Bronx Bombers. They landed some great players this off-season and the pitching staff has been significantly upgraded. I hope your Sox enjoyed their last World Series.
Brent – The rewards of fatherhood keep getting better as they grow; alas so does the responsibility.
RT – Running six trains at a time sounds like a great deal of fun to me.
I hope every one feels better and that we hear from Doug M. soon.

One of my favorites.
As usual lately, COLD and windy. Sun is up though.
Hoping not to do much as far as Mayor stuff. Watch TV, Train Box and some inside chores. Even waiting to go get garbage and recycle carts at the street. BURRR
Friend Fred is having outpatient surgery for hernia today.
Have a good one. OH! Workers, thanks for a week of SS payments. You've done extra good with such bad weather.

There, Chuck. Fixed!
A good friend of ours has been under the weather for the past four weeks and the Docs could not figure out what was causing it. Last Friday night I chatted with his wife and told her a second opinion was in order, that this thing had gone on long enough. Weak. Flu symptoms. Severe chills. No appetite. An occasional good day.
She was worried their Doctor of many years would take offense at the suggestion. I told her any Doctor worth their salt should want to do whatever is necessary to get to the bottom of the husband's malady. But they did nothing.
Unexpectedly, it was off to the ER with him this morning as he took a turn for the worse overnight. The short of it, they are doing a colonoscopy this afternoon.
Please say a prayer for my friend.
Doug in San Diego, I just wondered if you no anybody in the O Scale club in San Diego who might be able to take a crack at replacing a gear on a MTH 4-8-4 Santa Fe engine? I know some of those two rail scale guys are good at building engines and such. MTH no longer has parts for it so it would have to be made or find one that fits. I know it;s a long shot but the engine is too expensive to just throw it away.
