Afternoon all well a lot has happened over the past week or so. Well effective today I am now Retired unofficially effective 7 Feb it will be official. that's my actual retirement day on leave until then. Plans to relax and let my nerves calm down until then and then look at what I need to do. Right now go climb onto the train table and see about finishing the inner layout so I can start wiring it. ( switches and power)  Then will see what else needs to be done around here finally will have time to paint this room lol.

Funds going to be tight until May or June but it will all work out. Looking forward to relaxing some. Talk to you all later

Good Evening! 17 and snowing! Looks like 12+ inches for us.

Took Mom for her Medi Port flush and doctor's visit this morning. All went well. The snow that was supposed to start in the afternoon started about 7 am. On the way home it really broke loose. The hour drive from Mom's, took over 4 hours. Now to just snuggle in by the wood stove.

RI Jack: Prayers for your son.

Laz: We found out that the shop stopped stocking STD Gauge cars and Ray was disappointed because he jad his eye on 2 last time we were there. The 25% was for in stock only. Mike was his normal friendly self. I grabbed a War Bond trolley. Runs nice.

Doug M: Hope the surgery went well.

Don: Prayers. Hope all goes well.

Good News about your wife.

RT: Good Luck with retirement. It will work out.

Fife: Be careful tonight.

SJ / Charlie: Think York and Lemon Ice Cream!

Chief: Looking at this snow and it is Glad that I Am Retired.

Rich: My son is at the firehouse. This old Life Member / Exempt is staying by the fire. I told them to pick me up with the warm Engine if they need me.

Everybody be careful with this weather.

Evening all.  Snowing hard.  Temps still above freezing but dropping fast.  High today was 51.  Tomorrow, 27.  In fact it was 46 when all the snow started.  Grassy areas covered.  Black ice tomorrow AM, I'm sure.

John, yes when it like this, retirement is great.  Just stay in and watch TV or go to the train box and play.

RT, congrats on the retirement.  Now you can be broke like the rest of us. Wink

Glad Doug M. is doing OK.

Sir J. and Charlie, you don't heed new snow.  So frozen it will be there till April.  MUSH MUSH Laugh

I see Jon E has posted.  Hope he is home to the frozen mid west.  He should be suntanned from his vacation around the canal and back. Confused

Later.

PS: poor Fifey.  Night shift and slippy slidey.

Good evening all,

Weather was iffy today so I stayed home.  Got to run the 318E for a bit.  Did some local errands, but mostly took it easy.   The rest of the week will be interesting.  I am glad Doug M. is ok.  I hoe everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Chief --

Still working on the sun tan in the land of fruits & nuts.  We had decided months ago not to hurry back to the Heartlands so we are "decompressing" nicely in La Jolla.  As I'm typing this I can hear the roar of the waves hitting the beach, it sounds like a bad winter storm about 60 yards away, kind of weird.  We are walking several miles a day right now in prep for me going under the knife next week.  Looks like the weather will be clear for us to fly home soon.  Would love to stay here another month.

Hello all

Somewhat less than a quiet night on the hill. We are testing the optical pointing system tonight and there are lots of sounds coming out of the control system. Certainly keeps me awake.

Sheetmetal for the Corvan is ready to go on so we can proceed w/ the engine assembly. A couple pieces I just finished cleaning will need to go to the powdercoaters, but they can be installed later.

DougM - hope everything went well

Thoughts and prayers for Don B.

SPRay - will be neat to see the Big Boy on the move

RIJack - hope your son is doing better

On the train front, I finally dug the Amtrak 8936 Alco A unit out of its slumber and finished lubing it up. I promised this set to a friend for his kids a while back in exchange for a favor. It runs great as it should since I got the set NOS. I replaced the grease on it w/ some of the Labelle PTFE grease that is compatible w/ plastic. Once I get my friend's new address, it should hopefully be on the way to the Windy City! I guess it will be our own version of the Southwestern Chief.

Konbanwa,

Ohayo Chuck – Please send snow, lots of it.

Another brisk morning greeted me today and then it warmed up to the mid-40s.  I had another productive day at the office, and also had to stop by the clinic for an immunization update – I needed a fresh MMR shot.  The wife made teriyaki chicken for dinner and the kids are having piano practice now.  I don’t have anything else planned for the evening.

I’m glad Doug M’s surgery went well.

I’ll pray for Don B’s surgery.

Sayonara,
Joe

We're home.  I had a meeting in Phoenix and we did a train trip to the Grand Canyon.  I heard we had some of the boys in the hospital.  Wishing them all a speedy recovery.

 .

On another note, it was a sad day on the Banks of the Wabash in Famed Hoosierland, where an apparent murder of a teaching assistant took place.  The Riveters of Purdue are Boiler Strong.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill..........

Good Morning, Joe...... Snow is on it's way.

It is a -2 degrees. Going up to 16 with sunshine. Big deal.

Today is an easy day. We are not going out and making soup for supper. The dogs were quick to come back in this morning.

Cheerios on the dining car for breakfast.

Y'all have a great and warm Wednesday.

Morning all.  Snow on the ground.  Roads were a little icy in shaded spots.  Took dogs to groomer 15 miles NE.  Coming back, sun had dried them up.  Temps are Yankee cold.  High 27.

Fifey, you can retire to the hills of WV and really have snow.  Just not have to get out in it unless you want.

Jon, bake away.

Bob, still doing the Corvairs.  Great.  OH, spell check highlighted Corvair.  Sad.

Buckeye, glad you are home [to suffer the cold and snow Laugh].

Charlie and S J., deep freeze.

Jack should be real warm.  So much snow he can't get out so he will be inside all the time.

Listen to the Highway [country music] on satellite radio while driving.  They had people calling in with their temps.  One guy called in and said -23C.  Then one called in and said last week they were -53F.  That is kind of cold.

Stay warm, safe and dry.

Heard from Doug M this morning. He said not much sleep in a hospital, which many of us have been through. He is hoping to go home today so I would consider that a good sign.

Mornin' All.

Boy, away for a couple days and it seems like every thing goes to h*** in a handbasket.

Major Prayers going out for all our friends and their families here on the pot.

RT, Welcome to the Retirement Fraternity.

Monday at the museum, open for MLK Day, went pretty well. We had the Kids Club running the layout with six to seven trains at a time. Only a couple of moments of lack of attention but no disasters. TMCC(using mostly the CAB-1L) and DCS were the mode of the day.

Tuesday was visit multiple doctors day with lots of sitting in between finally got home about 2:30 and did like Chuck, NAP TIME. Consensus was "no change", oh well that's better than change for the worse.

Gotta run, need to call and schedule an echocardiogram.

See y'all later !

Good morning all,

Glad to hear Doug Murphy's surgery went well.  Hurry home and heal up.

Jon, didn't know you were in LaJolla.  Must have missed a post somewhere.  It is very nice down there.   We went to a wedding a while back in LaJolla and stayed in an old historic hotel in the area with no A/C to my knowledge but we didn't need it.  Prayers for a good result on your upcoming surgery.

D.Baker, hope things are doing OK with your latest problem.

Our live in son is going to Florida on Thursday for a car race.  Wife and I will eat less labor intensive meals when he is out of town and I can eat all the things he doesn't like.

later,

Ray

Good Afternoon! The temps are up to 13 now. Was single digits all morning.

We got dumped on pretty good. The snowblower worked like a champ and I cleared us and a neighbor before my son came home from the Fire Co. Standby. He went out to clear a disabled friend's walk and driveway and then to clear the Ice Cream Shop. It is nice and comfortable in here by the wood stove.

Jon: Enjoy the rest of your "Decompression". Good luck "under the knife".

V8: The way I look at it is that the transients will get 3 years of free room and board. Be patient with the accident investigations. It may seem like the officers are abusing their power, but they have to get it right for it may be years thru the courts and who knows what was involved.

Bob: Progress on the Corvan!

Joe D: This is a "Winter Wonderland"! lol Glad that I am retired and not at work today! lol

Laz: We are all cleared out and relaxing. RT is going to find out what we know. Retirement is great!

Buckeye: Sorry to read about the Teaching Assistant.

Doug Da Grump: Like you said: No change is better than going the wrong way. Good luck with your next test.

Doug M: Speedy Recovery!

SJ / Charlie: Just finished a dish of "Banilla" with chocolate syryp. Foxes U Bet!

Everyone enjoy the day and be careful with the weather!

Sorry for being absent on the POT the past few days.  I can't post from my android for some reason.

DougM......glad you are on the mend.  Don......I was sorry to read you have another procedure in your recovery schedule.  Jon.....I was also sorry to hear that you have your own medical reservation when you get home from your world travels.  HudsonJohn and Banks......things are looking up on your medical sojourns with family.  V8 Dennis.....move somewhere where it is too cold for the flu virus to survive, like here.

SJ and Mitch......how are the sled dogs doing?    Your weather is worse than Alaska's.  What bothers me is that you keep sharing it with me.

RT......you are not allowed to retire.  Who is going to pay for the Chief's retirement and cover his SS checks?  And there goes your train budget right out the window!!!! Seriously, congratulations!  You earned it.  Tou may want to consult with Chuck and SJ to get some expert advice on loafing and goofing off.

DougDG........I was glad to hear that your Doc said "no change" and didn't have to alter her/his stern lecture too much.

Bob......you need a turbo on your Corvair van.

RaySP......why don't you invest in a trickle charger for the Buick?  Cheaper than trying to charge the battery by driving.

Chief......I am glad you get to frolick in some snow.  How is the heat set-up in the box working out?  Satellite radio is the best......mega selection and no commercial interruption!!!

Brent......are you getting better at building snowmen with the little ones?

It has been somewhat hectic around here (understatement).  After 5 trips to the ER and two hospital admissions since last Friday, my son passed his kidney boulder and we brought him home last night.  So far so good.  Waiting on the lab test to tell him what in his diet is causing the stone issue.  Could be something as simple as dehydration.

We got hit by the same storm as the Baltimore and NJ/NY boys.  Lots of snow and the temps hit single digits last night.  Tonight and tomorrow night, more of the same.  It is colder than a witch's, uh, nose; and last night's 40 mph winds brought the wind chill down to minus 25.  The kiddies up my way may be going to school into July with all of the "snow" days.

Thank goodness for my Ariens snowblower.  It made short work of the buried driveway and the walkways.  Stupid me, I tried to top off the gas tank and spilled about 8 ounces of gas in the (attached) garage.  So the family room stinks of petrol, wife not pleased. Thank goodness for Yankee candles (right Fife?), they go a long way in the familt room to cover up the evidence and essence of my stupidity until evaporation has been totally completed.

I got hit with some expected automobile expenses.......inspections, oil changes, a battery, and some serpentine belts.  It adds up.  Tires are coming up, though I hope that I can stall that one off.  The offset tire sizes some vehicles (like mine) come with create an issue.  My rears are a wider size with a taller aspect ratio, so you can't rotate them between the front and the rear.  The fronts naturally are the first to need replacement.  To make matters worse, my tire sizes are not common, so the tires are pricey, even at the tire wholesalers.

The wifey asked me to do the grocery shopping when we were running up to yesterday's N'oreaster.  Needless to say, I have enough junk food in stock now to last a couple of weeks and to make my Doctor "concerned."   Wifey opines "Why on earth did you buy all of this fattening, unhealthy snack food?  You KNOW I am going to eat it!"  Asked and answered without anything more than a smirk from me.  I did buy some healthy stuff, like enough bananas to feed all of the monkeys in the zoo and enough apples to start my own apple juice factory.  And the chips and cookies were all on sale 2 for 1, couldn't pass them up.  Did I mention the cashews and pistachios, ice cream, Hershey's chocolate sauce, donuts, and candy......

Gasoline here is running about $.25 per gallon higher than the national average.  And my furnace is thirsty with this frigid weather.

Gotta run.  Later, gang.

Jack

Late Afternoon stop by: Temps are on their way down again. Just got back from a run to the supermarket. Roads are not too bad around here.

Jack: Glad your son passed the stone. My Ariens snowblower is 10 years old and it just keeps going! My Android does not like to post here either.

Keep Warm,

John

I find it IMPOSSIBLE to post via 'droid.  The phone is ok, just can't type in landscape mode as I can't see what I'm typing Bang Head and in portrait, the keys are too small.

Shoveled/snow blowed twice, once last night and once this morning.  Frigid cold.  Made it to work my 9AM and this place is dead.  My compatriot blew out at 4 without permission and the BOSS was NOT pleased and I have to stay until 6...Zzz

At least I don't have anywhere to go or do other than go to Staples and get the software fixed on my NEW laptop - Toshiba Satellite.  Got it cheap, a "recovered" item - Brent you can weigh in on that, will wind up costing me $200 plus $79 for the 2 year no questions asked warranty.  It will serve for what I want it to do.

Bright sun and 11F now, getting colder when the sun sets.  Devils won 7 - 1 over that team from St. Louis Whistling will finish a movie I started ("Goon" yes, it's a hockey movie...lol)

Rich - you won't be disappointed with the Toshiba Laptop. TheQ has had two and loved them both. I on the otherhand learned that changing the RAM in a Laptop is NOT the same as in a desktop and the brackets holding the RAM in a Laptop are very fragile...

I talked to my Lil' Sister the other night and it appears my father found a load of cash and blew it on a new Laptop for my niece. I have no idea why a college student needs a $1,000 Laptop with a detachable screen that can be used as a tablet with touchscreen... esp since said niece has already dropped and broken THREE other Laptops... oh well.

Evenin" fellas and gals;          Really cold here. Goin' down to zero.  What a blunder!   Used the John Deere tractor with snow blower. All of a sudden engine died;  tried everything.   Then the synapses must have connected and I said to myself, maybe the gas cap vent is clogged.  Presto!  Uncloggo!    Worked liked a dream.      Whew!      later.
