Trip #4 during the past 24 hours to the emergency room with my son who has kidney stones.  As in the previous trips, I have been sitting in the waiting room the past 4 hours.

With four trips in, I think this last one will probably result in their admitting him because the IV morphine derivative works great....until it wears off.  The pain killers they gave to him to take home when they released him the previous three times did not do squat.

I understand Buckeye is the expert with being stoned.  :-)

Yes Jack the Morph works for a little while but seems to wear off pretty fast.

Stones are painful, hope it passes soon.

Yup, the doctors admitted my son for kidney stones.  Chief......I asked them if they had a Southern cure and they just laughed, said that stuff is what makes Rebs talk funny.

SJ.......he is/was in a lot of pain. My wife said the pain is worse than childbirth.  The scan showed only one stone, and it had already made its way from the kidney to the bladder.....so they did not anticipate what has happened after the first visit.

Understandable Jack, usually once the stone reaches the bladder the pain is over and it passes.

Good evening all,

Jack, my sympathies for the one with the stones.  Cannot be fun at all.  A very good day today.  Sun came out and warmed up the back porch so I could run trains.   A 2 hour session with the 318E was very good.  Showed me the problem with the 384E was not transformer related.  There is quirk with the 318E as well, but not as bad.   Ran 8040 with the tank cars for a while as well.  I love the smell of ozone during the day.  It smells like railroading.    Went thru 2 boxes of "stuff" and made decisions about all the contents.  Several more boxes to go.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Monday Morning All!

JoeD - Glad your ok and back.

RI Jack - I have a friend at work who has had 23 stones in his lifetime, I think he's in his early 60's. His last one was last month and it was too large to pass, it passed the bladder and became lodged. Very painful. Hope it goes well for him.

Mornin' boys.  Partly sunny & 36 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  I did watch football, but Wifey gave the North Pole layout a stay of execution.  Said the grandson loves it, so it can stay up a while longer.  Kinda gives me a little longer to find a place to stow it away.

Back on nights.  Gonna be cold this week.

Hi GUYZ,

Been busy again like the BEE LINE.  Had a nice train nerd party at friends house in Elizabethtown, Pa. on Saturday nite.  Good food, beer and lots o train talk.  Even WIFE enjoyed the nite. Made lots o progress on layout and sprayed the can expanding foam and trimmed it.  Now to do some spackle work on it and start painting.  I did the mountain in 8 different pieces.  This way I don't have to climb all over the layout and riun things.  I have it so if I need to get at track take apart one section and it will expose the track.  Another section for electrical.  Pretty easy but did have some thinking to ponder but I think will work out.  I will post pics when done.  Maybe next week.  I only work on it for about 2 hrs a day.  Don't wanta burn out?  I gotta pace myself.

JOEY D,  Glad your back. Konichiwa!!!!

JACK prayers for the ailing boy.  Ask BUCKEYE about those stones.

ANJDEVIL, WOW lots o calls for January.  Stay safe.

CHUCK, watch out for the PILE UPs?

HUDSONJOHN, How was trainfest?  Did you give MIKE WOLF and nuggies?

Stay frosty my friends,

Morning.  Yes, its still morning.  Had errands to run.  Left truck at shop for new shocks [use to do that stuff myself, getting too old].  130K and original shocks.  Still OK but this will be better.  Got Mayors' meeting tonight.  Train Box in a few.

Hope Jacks Son does OK.

Good to hear from Joe.

Rich, too many calls not good.  Be safe.

Jack, I have had at least a dozen kidney stones over the years and in every case the pain killer worked and the stone migrated to a no pain zone and was evenutally passed.  One time I went to the ER and thought I had a kidney stone and was treated and sent home.  However, I was back in the ER again the next day.  Turns out that it was not a kidney stone but something else.  I forget now what it was but they took care of it.  I hope your son gets over his fast.  They are no fun at all.

Just when you thought it was safe to breath again........... I read in the paper today that because of the stalled air over the L.A. Basin, there are a lot of unhealthy things in the air for people with breathing problems.  However, the air quality report is showing good air in our area.  I don't get it.  That report must have come from a heavily congested bar.

Paper is also reporting about polls for approving marijuana recreational use..  Quotes Obama as saying that he thinks marijuana is no more dangerous than alcohol.  My question is what did alcohol abuse every do for us?  Washington State and Colorado are already selling pot leagally.  Thanks for the warning.  I will stay the heck out of those places.  We just had two or three pot heads almost burn down our town this week.

later,

Ray

Aloha. Grey again today - supposed to be dropping to -25 again with the wind overnight. Lovely. At this rate, we'll still have this snow in June. I'll be somewhat glad to be in the hospital. Tongue Tied

Nice to hear from Joe. Glad everything is well. Kidney stones sound terrible. Prayers for your SiL, Jack! Worked on the layout over the weekend - cleaning and tweaking the track.Thomas was fine on it but Ivor - with only 4 wheels, he feels every twinge.

Good evening all,

Good weather day.  Unloaded some more junk at an antique store with the possibility of getting rid of some stuff.  Wife was not too happy with what I got, but she did not do the negotiating so no big deal.  It is money we did not have before and stuff we were never going to use.  I see it as a win.   Went to see "Saving Mr. Banks", which was about Walt Disney and the writer of Mary Poppins.   Movie was about far more than that.  kind of surprising.  Definitely NOT for kids.   Can not say I would recommend it.  Good acting, and some interesting story lines.   Temps really supposed to drop this week.  I will be glad to see this winter gone.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello all

Another quiet night here on the mountain, so far anyways.

No so much for my friend in town. That Honda Accord I just replaced the master cylinder on? Just got rear ended and sounds like it's a goner. Friend is ok. Driver that hit her had Titan(?) ins. Anybody heard of them? Hope that doesn't become an issue. Guess we'll have to start looking for that Volvo wagon she's always wanted. At least the new master cylinder got her thru the move anyway.

Jack - thoughts and prayers for your son. Those things are not fun.

Joe - good to see you back. Were you at Hickam?

Chief - the shocks I'm replacing have only 50K on them, but are 49 yrs old!

Charlie - love that articulated in the video. And talk about a mixed freight!

Bottom falling out of the temperature tonight. Was about 50 at lunch, headed for an overnight low in the single digits. Had a nice dinner at the KATY Depot Museum tonight - kind of a thank you dinner for the folks who work and volunteer there. Working on a repair job on a HO 4-4-0 General type locomotive for the LHS. That thing has problems on top of problems. Working through them one by one. Looks like I need a 00-90 bolt for the job. I really like working on O gage better - you can see what is going on and the parts don't fly off of the bench when you sneeze! All for now.

Konbanwa and Ohayok Chuck,

It was 27 degrees when I left for the gym this morning and the high reached the mid-40s.  I had an uneventful day at the office and spent most of my time catching up new tasks and purging emails.  We’re going to have a relaxing night at home while I help the older two with schoolwork.

I’m glad to be posting again…yes; a trip to Hawaii was rough. Wink Unfortunately, I was busier than planned so I didn’t have much time to enjoy the island.

Bob – Yes, I was at Hickam.  It’s now known as Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.  It is quite different since I was stationed there from 1999-2002.  I’m glad your friend was okay; I have not heard of Titan insurance.

I’m still jealous of all you that have snow.

Sayonara,
Joe

Prayers sent for D. Baker.  Wishing you a good recovery this time Don.  So sorry this happened but I kow you will get through it.  We are with you.

Doug Murphy, prayers for a good outcome on your surgery.  All the best to a good guy.

Not much going on here yet this morning but just read that Trains Magazine will have a live coverage of the Big Boy move this week end.  I probably will see most of it on there.  I'm not up to train chasing any more.  I might try to see it when it stops at the Metrolink station in Covina.  After that, it's up for grabs.  I hope I can see it go over Cajon Pass later this year.  That would be more memorable to me.

Since I got my Statler Brothers final concert video (2002) I have been learning about them on the internet since they retired.  Harold and Don Reid who are the only real brothers in the group have respective son's who are now carrying on the family business doing shows with just the two of them.  I saw them on you tube and they sounded real good.  They go by the name of Wilson Fairchild or something like that which is their middle names.  At first they used the name Falstaff but that didn't work.
