Good morning all,

Doug, prayers and condolences for your wife's friend.

A little drizzle this morning but so far no real rain.  Cloudy and cool for now.

Doctor appointment at 11:00 this morning.  Afraid I am going to get a bad report on tryglycerides and weight gain.  Think I have put on maybe 5 lbs lately.  Too much ice cream.  I like seafood.  I eat everything I see.

Sounds like Chief is hooking up the hunting lodge to the power grid.  Next will be the installation of the spa and stage for the dancing girls.

later,

Ray

Doug - prayers are raised. Angel

Trying to find out when a couple items are slated to ship from Lionel off the Christmas Catalog... unfortunately it appears, as usual, they aren't adding them to the shipping schedule till the actually produce the items. This is really frustrating because a couple items I want people have pre-ordered for me as gifts, now we're back to the 'will it actually be made' waiting game. Oh well.

Dealing with the ramifications of a company redesigning their backend database and dropping fields that we use... UGH!!!

Brent,

Isn't working in IT great?Wink  I see it all the time too with updates/upgrades getting pushed out with no prior testing only to cause hospital-wide issues.  Just last night I had to deal with a complication of switching from a physical server to a virtual server that handles background jobs.

Then, there are the users that have little knowledge of the applications and even the PC that they use.Bang Head  Some of the calls that I get really make me question things.

I didn't think an IT position could be that stressful.

Aloha. Another beauty of a Fall day. Went out for chicken wings for supper because... it was Tuesday.  Nice TARDIS ride last night with the guys. Looks like a busy day today. Prayers for Doug's friends.

Buckeye, I travel those bridges in Cincy and Louisville regularly. Glad to know they're being fixed up. The one in the 'ville has seemingly been under construction for a long time. Love the old RR bridge that is still next to it.

Another beautiful day in Ohio.  Clear blue skies and crisp.  Just like autumn is supposed to be.  This type of weather helps Chuck prime the snow cannon for a hit on Roseyville. Smile, Wink & Grin

Hope to work on my last piece of track on my layout tonight.  It is a special siding that is insulated from the continuous power where my conventionally powered locomotives can be stored with out running down the track uncontrolled.  Big Smile

Good evening all,

I have seen "my" soccer lose sectional games in many different ways, but none like this one.  Up 2-1 with 10 minutes to go, and having bottled up the other team's start player the entire game, it all fell apart in 3 minutes as said star player ripped off 2 goals and ended the scoring with a 3-2 win for the other team.   I have never seen a team fail to put away their opponents like this one did repeatedly all year long.  Work was quiet today.  Boys will play tomorrow.

Home from Louisville, KY.  Great trip to see the new bridge on I-65 across the Ohio River.  For all you snowbirds from Chicago, your trip will be easier in 2016.  The cost for the new bridge and approaches, (please sit down)  $300,000,000.  Of course the new bridge that is to built on I-75 through Cincinnati is estimated, (hold on tight) $2.73 Billion.  I don't know why Kentucky originally skimped on both of these bridges in the '60s, but there are major deficiencies in both.  Of course, as you know this money is peanuts when compared to the yearly budget of Roseyville. Whistling

Ohayō,

I decided to take the rest of the week off from work so I can catch up with the family and also acclimate to the time difference.  It will take about that long to fully adjust and return to a normal sleep pattern.  The weather here is still a bit warm for October; the highs are in the mid-80s and the sun is shining.  However, the leaves are falling so I will have some raking to do this week.

Hey all I'm still here just been hiding from the witch. And to think I use to cut her grass for her, trim her bushes etc and then she wants to be ugly and get her friends the same oh well thats there problem I don't have to associate with them.

Not to much else going on got a real idiot lets see your ebay seller name is train related and its O gauge related and you want to offer $500 for a set that books for $2200 the someone wanted me to sell them a N&W hopper in original box yet for $6 some idiots It just makes me go back in and put a minimum that I'll accept and a ceiling on best offer as in below a certain amount denied automatically.

Oh well christmas is coming and will see what happens as reducing what I don't really want/need lol I get in these spending modes then look back why did I buy that lol

This is why I gave up selling.  Too many entitled, cheap "buyers" that want everything handed to them.  I don't even reply to their requests anymore.  Pay the asking price or get out.  I am in the business to make money, not to read the sob stories of said "buyers" or to haggle with them.

I don't see this type of thing selling car parts either.  It seem to just come from this hobby for whatever reason.

There are just as many, if not more, sellers who think their junk should bring 'book' prices.

I've said it time and again... 'buyers' have just as much 'right' to make an offer as the 'seller' has the 'right' to reject said offer... if you don't like it - don't sell or buy... simple as that. Wink

Jack - you should have seen our rendition of 'Keystone Cops' when I was 'teaching' Christina how to use the dust pan. She grasped the concept of keeping said pan on the floor so you could sweep the mess into it, but she kept turning the dust pan over BEFORE she had it over the garbage can... "UH OH! I clean up mess again!" She got it on round 3. Since it was a dry mess we let her learn on her own with a little verbal guidance.

SJ - the photo policy gets more and more confusing the more Chief, DBaker and Buckeye try to clear it up! Wink I'm wondering why they have so many pictures of topless men in their collections! Surprise

Let me just remind everyone that this is the official off-topic place to post - and that the "layout photos not in this thread" originated with forum members, to better allow their layouts to be see by readers who didn't want to wade into the grits infested waters.

While I think a little "fat guys with beer bellies and no t-shirts" goes a long way, it does go along with the nature of the Pot thread. Topless photos of the other gender will get you moderated for life.

Ohayo (Ohio Chuck),

Well, due to the government shutdown I am back in Japan three weeks early.  After completing three weeks of a six week course, the school had to send us home since there was no money due to the shutdown.  I am happy to be back with my family, but the three weeks of work I completed are all for nothing at this point.  I doubt I will make it back to complete the course.  I was impressed with Newport, RI; it is a very nice part of our country.

I hope to catch up on the posts at some point and I hope everyone is doing well.

Sayonara,

Joe

And it didn't cost anything to send you home to Japan?? Wink

Moring all.  Back from Dr.'s.  Off to the lake house again.  Back tomorrow night.  Then to the farm Sat.

Brutus, sorry for the furlough.  Not suppose to say this, TEA PARTY is CRAZY!!!!!!!  Gives us good Republicans bad name. Thumbs Down

Have a great weekend coming up.

I have to say that I agree with the Chief.  Problem is that they have some of our long term Republican Reps from this area convinced that they are right, go figure.

It has been a long while for me again.  It looks like Fall is here to stay, a lot of leaves falling due to the dry September we have had.  Some trees almost bare, others yet to start dropping leaves.  Spent yesterday trimming back bushes for fall and collecting leaves.  Got an inch of rain latter in the day, first good rain for a while and more coming Thursday form the coastal storm.

Hope everyone is doing well as I have not read all the posts for October.

Good morning all,

Cool morning here and forcast tomorrow has been downgraded somewhat.  They say thunderstorms which may or may not impact where I live.  Maybe early morning drizzle or light shower.  Will believe any of it when  I see it.

Dodgers got lucky last night and took the series.  They keep bailing the manager out when he makes bonehead decisions.  Last night he gambled on using his best starting pitcher on short rest but got lucky.  If they had lost, he would have had no one for the last game of the series if it had gone back to Atlanta.  Also had his best hitter try to bunt when they were trailing 3-2.  He failed twice to bunt but hit a home run.  Lucky again.  Well you know the saying, "I'd rather be lucky than rich".

RT and Dennis, I have'nt sold anything for quite a while either.  I remember one guy that I sold a brand new in the box MTH A-B-A diesel set to who wanted to pay with a check.  I said OK but said that I would wait for it to clear.   He hounded me to death until he got the set and threatened to send it back if he found one finger print on it.  I did have better luck selling all of my postwar and some pre war Lionel when the prices were still good.  I made a handsome profit on that stuff but I doubt you could do that today.  On modern era trains I only got about half or less what I paid for them.  I used most of the money from the post and prewar Lionel to buy modern era trains and although they don't hold their value, I have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of them.

later,

Ray

Gorgeous morn, among many in Kansas City this week.

Spent many hours yesterday taking videos of various trains on the mall layout, w/ consists sequenced as they appeared in Lionel catalogs. I'm wanting to put it all together in a You Tube video somewhat styled as a "as seen in Lionel catalogs" series.  Included so far is the 1955 Illinois Central 2363 freight set, 1955 Burlington Northen 2328 with 2400 series passenger cars, 1955 1615 work train, 1959 Super Chief with 2561-2563, and  the 1949 2026 3 car freight set. Yet to film is a Santa Fe speedliner.  I also filmed the 2530-34  coaches  pulled by an 8020/8021 and 218 combination running on the opposing track to the Super Chief set.. And lastly I  filmed the Illinois Central  2363 heading up a business special of custom painted 2500's in Illinois Central style paint.

I hope to have the videos edited and up in time for the Great Mall of the Great Plains train show on October 20-21. We're going to have a postwar floor layout, among others during the show.

Good Mornin' Y'all From Cape Ann.

It is a beautiful Fall day here in New England.  Mid 60s and sunny clear skies are tap after yesterday's severe stormy afternoon and evening in Taxachusetts.

The Fall colors are gorgeous.  Halloween month has commenced in Salem (the Witch City), the next town South of me on the coast......and the tourists will be flocking here as the month progresses, taking in the Fall New England colors and all things Halloween.  The Topsfield Fair (seven miles North of here) is the oldest continuously running agricultural fair in the US (since 1820) and is in full swing.

We took the grandkiddies and family out for breakfast Sunday morning and then to Brooksby Farms to pick out our pumpkins for Halloween.....and the crop this year seems like size is way up!!!  We got three 30+ pounders plus an assortment of smaller ones and some gourds.  Need some corn stalks to decorate the mailbox post and start putting up the decorations.

Today the wifey and I celebrate Maximus' 5th birthday as we continue to contend with the little four month old monster puppy, Raven.  Housebreaking is going extremely well.  The vet continues the innoculations and getting rich.  And I keep writing checks.

This past Saturday provided some excitement.  A rather large coyote wandered into our yard from the abutting wetlands at the rear of my spread and my son snapped a picture.  Probably looking for a meal, and as you know with coyotes where there is one there is a family close by.  The coyote would explain why the rabbits, who have been torturing Maximus with their presence since Spring, have suddenly disappeared, totally.  No sign of them.  The coyotes must have been chowing.  Consequently, the wifey and I have to be on guard so that our dogs don't become their next meal.  They can be prolific pack hunters and are quite crafty luring their quarry into their "traps."

RaySP......I am so glad your ladder snafu did not result in more serious injury.  My neighbor, when he was in his early 50s at the time, missed the bottom rung on a step ladder while getting off of it on his front porch.  He was changing out a light bulb.  He shattered his leg and ankle ala DonnyB.  Yup.  From the height of about nine inches!!!  Rods, pins, plates, and screws.  And you remember what happened to Brent with his ladder incident.  Usually these things happen while our minds are on something else.

Brent......raisin cleanup in isle one!!!!  Laugh

Chief.....after reading up on all of your recent activities, I envision a Mexican jumping bean on crack and meth.  Then I take a nap.  I think you need to focus on your layout in Box #1.

V8 Dennis........I believe you are financially liable for anything that happens with that vehicle until the title and registration are taken out of your name and put in another.  Surprise

DougDG.......I was thinking of you when some friends of ours said they are headed out to Pomona for the Doberman Pinscher Club of America national show.  They asked me how far it was to San Diego so that they could take a day trip while they were out there.  I told them about 100 miles and with luck only a four hour drive one way.  Was I close? Smile, Wink & Grin

Brutus.....I thought of you this past weekend when the news reported retro pay once "the debacle" is resolved.  Hopefully that will be soon.  Don't get me started.  The entire bunch should be strung up.

BOC......it sounds to me that you do not need any of my counsel and advice for getting into trouble with your better half.  Kudos.  And carry on.  Laugh

Chuck......I keep reading how you have "chores" to do while your wife is out and about.  Define chores.  I keep envisioning a bunch of mice running around in the proverbial absence of the resident cat. Whistling

LAZ.......how much did the local taxidermist charge you to use his samples for your fish pictures!!!  Laugh

RT.........no good deed shall go unpunished.  About two decades ago the police showed up at my front door.  It seemed a gaggle of the neighborhood 7-10 year old kids were having a snowball fight.  A complaint call was made and the police responded.  The woman and her husband next door, who were new to the neighborhood, felt their kids were being picked on......so they called the police on the only persons the wife knew that had a child in the mix, my wife and I.  The police were understanding.

I wasn't so understanding because I had gone out of my way to make them feel welcome.  I even went so far as to reassure them that we collectively as parents could make sure their kids were made to feel welcome, that children being children there was bound to be a few incidents that would require the parents to step in and maintain peace and civility.

What did these neighbors do?!?!!!  Yup, called the police instead of make a call to me or just knock on the door.  So the next day I walked over to the husband and let him have it verbally, told him our relationship as cordial neighbors was over.  That was the last we had anything to do with them.  Within a few months they moved away.  Seems like the other neighbors had had enough of their idiocy as well.

Later, gang.

Jack.

Aloha. Beauty of a Fall day again. Got my Halloween outfit figured out - I volunteered to help at the local church who does a big party for the neighborhood. Got home too late from meeting last night to grab the TARDIS, but got a nice Chicago Italian beef sammwitch' at the meeting which was great.

Good evening all,

Doug M, you are correct about referees.  There are several sanctioning bodies for the game and they all have different requirements.  I work with a S.A.Y. league, which is based in Cincinnati, Ohio.  I took some classes and passed some tests, but I could use a refresher.  To answer another question, a PK is a penalty kick.  It is the shooter versus the keeper.  During the game they are called for fouls and offenses inside the "penalty area", hence the name.   They are also used for shootouts at the end of tie games when there are time restraints on how long a game can last.

Quiet day at work.  Nice night at home playing games with granddaughter.  Played one round of Battleship and two of Double Crossing.
