Hey California boys........some guy in Napa just set a world record for heaviest pumpkin ever.  2,062 pounds, beating the previous record of 2,009 pounds set by a Rhode Island guy last year.  The Napa guy must have used illegal growth hormones.     :-)     JACK.

Mike......I feel your pain.  I end up vacuuming the baseboards, walls behind furniture, all of the draperies and window trim, the sofas and chairs, and moving as much furniture and accessories out of the rooms where the carpeting will be cleaned.  I also haul a dehumidifier and a few box fans up from the basement.  It takes me three times the effort and time than the carpet cleaners spend.  I HATE IT WHEN THE WIFE WANTS THE CARPETING CLEANED!!!!!  :-(   JACK.

Good evening all,

Wife wanted carpets cleaned in house so I spent the day helping her get the place ready for the cleaner to be here tomorrow.  Maybe I need to get rid of some stuff.

Dodgers lost two heartbreakers in a row.  They are overdue to win the next one.

Forgot to mention that I got a couple of DVD's for my birthday of music concerts from Austin City Limits.   One was Willie Nelson and the other was Buck Owens.  Two of my favorites.  However the Buck Owens concert was made after the death of his longtime side kick that he sang all the duets with but replacement did a good job.  Looked like Willie was just goofing off.  He sounds much better on some of my CD's.  He sang "Good Hearted Woman" that he and Waylon Jennings did duets on but this time with somebody else.  I know he can do better.  Overall the DVD is not bad.

Got another DVD to look at with Don Murray playing FDR in a movie about the King and Queen of England's visit prior to the war.

On the menu tonight:  Smoked ham, blackeyed peas, Yams and cabbage.  All I need is cornbread to make it complete.

later,

Ray

Good morning all,

Had a nice birthday get together yesterday with dinner out and desert at home.   We had a carrot cake and ice cream.  Thanks for all the good wishes.

Don, sorry to hear you can't do much with the walker. Probably developed your own technique by now.

Got birthday calls from two brothers yesterday, both in Virginia.

Happy Columbo Day, boys.  I've got my trenchcoat on, a cigar in my hand, and I've been mumbling in circles all morning.

Spent better part of week in WV, visiting with my folks.  Rained the whole time, so just ate Mom's cooking and gained more weight. Dinner

SPMan - Happy B-Day

Dougnotta - Condolences on your friend's passing.

Chief - Drinks to the new bride.

No YORK for me this go-'round either....Sigh

Aloha and Happy Columbus Day - the Chicago parade is relegated to a street in the middle of the park but I'll hike over there to see the festivities. They usually have an interesting choice as 'grand marshall' too. It's a beautiful day but more fall-like. It was a lovely weekend too, but quiet. Hope you had a nice birthday, Ray.  Brent, that sounds like a neat Christmas gift. I hope it works!  Roy, I'm happy you are feeling better, just in time to travel.

Demay

Konnichiwa,

It's been a nice Columbus Day here.  I had a great 10-mile run this morning and then television time to watch the Cowboys-Redskins game as well as the Tigers-Sox game.  I'm sure Jack is happy about the outcome of that game.  SJ, your Tigers fell apart.  The older son and I raked some leaves today and now I can catch up on some reading.

Brent - What do you think caused the hole?

Sayonara,

Joe

Yes Joe I knew when the Tigers changed pitchers that they would mess up the game. Seen them do that all summer long. Ahh but the Lions won..surprised 2 weeks in a row.

Mornin' Fellas

Really tired... not sure why.

Demay - I have no idea. When I first saw it I thought maybe a forklift, but it is only about 2 inches wide and all forklifts I have seen the blades are at least 4 inches wide. I probably should have pulled everything out, unwrapped the units, put them on a test track and run them, but I really did not want to look at them till Christmas. The image in the catalog is an artist's rendering - not a production model. So there is still an 'element of surprise'. I will call the LTS and talk to the owner and tell him what I found... see what he recommends. I'll be a bit upset if I get them out and they don't run and then can't get a replacement... UGH

Have to get started on the Christmas Tree layout. I am definitely adding an O-60 loop, and maybe an O-72, not sure. I priced replacing the lumber with 2" foam sheets, but I would need 9 sheets and at $33.32 a sheet - OUCH!

Good evening all,

Mowed yard.  Dog not allowed on back porch for a while as it was chewing on Lionel box.  Fortunately it was the outer carton and not the actual box itself.  Got Halloween lights up.

Evenin' All.

Been a very busy week followed by Friday's museum visit, good run w/no pileups. Had a hectic Saturday with some last minute preps for the BetterHalf's surprise anniversary party that night. It was a roaring success, she was totally surprised and the dinner was fabulous. Good company, good food, good wine & beer = great evening. The only glitch came when to my surprise a champagne toast was added and I was given the opening toast, can you say "deer in the headlights". Some of the guests who came from the Cinncy area are spending a few days visiting so today was KP for me.

Thanks for the prayers, she is holding up ok so far.

Eyelids starting to get a bit heavy, nite all.

Evenin' Fellas

Been a pretty good weekend. Last week I emailed Lionel concerning items in the Christmas Catalog not being in the shipping schedule. Got a response on Tuesday that they did not know when the items would ship, or if they were being made. Friday I got a call from the LTS that one of the items was in... Confused

Picked up the NPC Zephyr on Saturday. The shipping box and set box has a hole poked through to the foam core. Opened it when I got how and everything is OK. Now have to wait to Christmas to 'open' it.

Just a few days till York. Anyone hear from Fife? I shot him an email on Friday and no word.

Chief - congrats to the eldest daughter!

Evening All

Buckeye,  WOW !!  That is a BEAUTIFUL scene!!

Roy,  Hope your feeling better for York!!  Talked with George last week.  BTW  I haven't gotten accustomed to that walker.  Got the arm cast off, but the hand still kind of tender when it comes to the crutches.  So primary mobility is the chair, or hoping around.

Good weekend so far.

Texas A&M held out to take Ole Miss. Watching Cowboys vs Wash Redskins. Hope Dallas can hang in there. Commentators have correctly stated its going to be a long night against Wash, RG3.

Weird day woke up tired and wore out but as the day went on I started feeling better. Got home made dinner for wife and myself. Been down in the train room trying to find the train table. Did find the out two loops so ran the N/S Dash 8 and the PRR GP-38 ( I think lol) its by atlas the other is Lionel that I upgraded to tmcc. did put a major dent in the stuff on the train table want to get it cleared so I can put the southern set on it and run it and lube all the cars. The engine is fine was professionally cleaned and lubed not long ago and to me he over lubed it. So thats my job tomorrow lol that and a couple other sets. Need to get them all correctly cleaned and lubed/oiled the engines/whistles/cars.

Just relaxing now. need to go back down and turn off the power to the power strip down there. Also need to take some pics tomorrow of more items I'm going to be selling.

Talk to you all later

Good morning all,

Thanks for the birthday greetings.  Yes, here I am after 77 years of ups and downs and surviving mistreatment of myself in my youth but still kicking.

Chief congratulations on the wedding!

My two sons went out yesterday for another visit to UP steam engine 4014.  The big boy at Pomona Fairground.  U.P. Steam crews have been busy for the last couple of months preping it for the move back to Cheyenne.  They will move it next month.

Kids taking me out for birthday dinner today and will also combine with Grandson's birthday which will be this coming Thursday.

later,

Ray

Konnichiwa,

We went to Sunday school and church this morning, followed by lunch at Chili's.  It's sunny and warm, but I think I'll remain inside today catching up on some reading.  However, I'm a bit distracted right now since West Side Story is on the television.  I woke up early in hopes the PSU game was going to be aired out here, but I was let down.  I had to watch the updates online.  That is a big win for the PSU program.

Happy Birthday SP Ray!

Chief - Congratulations on the wedding!

Good evening all,

Reffed a very good soccer contest today.  Went to Great Train Expo in Indy.  Very little Lionel.  Lots of HO and some nice layouts.   Went to nephew's band contest.  They won.  Shopped at Menards.  Does not appear there will be a Menards set this year.  Long day.  Good day.

Ah - NASCAR and Texas A&M on the same night. Hard to get better than this!

Texas upset over Ole Miss - SWEET. Penn State takes it in 4 OTs - wow!

Need A&M to take Ole Miss and it will be a red letter day !

Got some rain today. Not much but it all helps!

Thank God and 4 Runner, I'm home.  Married off the oldest Daughter [never been married].  Yes  Wedding was in town south of us.  CSX mainline NY to FL runs down the middle of the town.  We were one block from it.  Lots of long loud trains coming through all day and night for such a "short line" railroad. Whistling  I packed up with the dogs and came home.  Left Wifey there with one SIL.  The planned big gang of IL's left and did not stay.  The wild kids were there but they took them home.

Still cloudy and spit rain late.  Not during the wedding.  When will we see the sun?????

Now for some rest.

Later.

Roy and Jack, thanks for the birthday greeting.  It's actually tomorrow but I don't mind starting early.

Listening to the Firehouse Five Album loaned to me by friend Larry as I read the forum.  I never heard "I love you truly" played by a jazz band before.  Of course we know that Ward Kimball would try anything in music.

My two sons are off this morning to see the Big Boy at the fairground.  It is the museum's regular open house and may be their last chance to see it before it is moved back to Cheyenne.  I would have gone with them but I had other problems to deal with at home.

Neighbor brought over a train set for me to look at this morning that he got in a garage sale.  It was a Bachmann large scale battery operated steam train with track and controller.  It works off of  a battery so I told him to get some rechargeable batteries so it won't be too expensive to run.  He said he bought it for his girlfriend.

Cooler weather still with us.  Feels good and gives me more train time in the garage.

later,

Ray
