Dennis -- about 100 years ago I used to subscribe to Hot Rod magazine and loved every issue.  In 1968 I had a brand new Road Runner, loved that car, got hit by a drunk less than a year of ownership and it was totaled.  Wish I had kept it but I had very little money and was single, wanted to replace it with a GTO but that just wasn't in the cards.  Last weekend at a local festival I saw a '69 GTO, arrg ....... great lines, I shouldn't even go to those festivals.

Dream car for me ---- '32 Ford chopped and channeled.  Guess I would have to win the lottery but then that means I would have to buy a lottery ticket.  Sure fun to see those beauties of the past

Thanks to Chuck I was looking forward to getting tons of  important work done today.  I sent him a stack of railroad permits to fill out and he said, "I would rather take a nap."  Good help is hard to find.

I'm very pleased to report, I just spoke with Jeff. He is very updbeat, and he says he may be leaving the hospital as early as this Friday. He is resting comfortably without any unexpected complications.

I told him about the many posts with Get Well wishes. He is very thankful to each one of you. I read a handful of the messages, but only a small sample of them. 

Sounds like he can get on the internet at his Dad's house where he will be staying after leaving the hospital for a few weeks. I told him he should borrow a laptop (computer not the other kind) from one of the nurses he flirts with.

Jeff has a lot of very good friends.

Just got through talking to Don.  He is waiting for Kay to pick him up and will be going home today.  I asked him about the lack of a cast and he said that they had it in some kind of splint so that it is imobilized.  He is looking forward to getting back to his own digs.  I can appreciate that.  He said that they will send somebody out to his house for therapy for a while at least.  Good luck Don!  Talk to you soon.

Glad to hear that Don is coming home.  Guess he wasn't having any of that nursing home pitch.  I just hope he can manage at home but I know he is onery enough.  Maybe he will do therapy as an outpatient.  Will talk to him as soon as I can.

Best wishes and prayers sent for Jeffrey to have a good recovery.  Sorry to hear about this latest episode in his battle with his many infirmities which he has fought for so long..

Laz, I see where V8 Dennis filled you in about the drag strip at Pomona.  They also have the Winter Nationals there.  We live several miles from the track and you can still hear the engines when they are running.  There is a road that runs parallel to the drag strip with the strip on one side and an airport ( Brackett Field) on the other.  Gets kind of busy when the drags are on and the planes are flying.  They put up a fence that you can't see through along the road so no rubber neckers will block traffic or get a free admission.  Years ago we had a drag strip in Irwindale which I went to a few times.  Now it is the site of Miller Brewing Company.

Weather heating up a litttle this week.

Still nothing new about my sister in Virginia post surgery except that she has been moved to a nursing facility.

Stayed up too late last night reading - that's going to cost me today. Actually pre-ordered the upcoming comic books based on the original screenplay notes from George Lucas for Star Wars. Never did that before.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy and muggy 70 degrees. Rained last night. Going up to 80 today with more rain coming.

Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of chores to do and a project to work on. A few phone calls to make and paperwork to do.  Then a nice lunch and a nap, for sure.

LAZ....  ZW is working great.  Just like a new one.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

I have heard from Jeffrey's Dad, and Jeff's surgery went as well as can be expected. His leg was amputated below the knee.

I started a thread in the main Model Railroader forum about Jeff, and posted more details.

Meanwhile, I'll be praying for Don of the Coffee Pot. Sorry to read the news about his accident.

Talked to Don tonight.  HE says he is going home tomorrow without a cast.  Did get one unit of blood.  He is doing fine as he is as stubborn as usual.

Dennis, will try and call tomorrow.  See if we can drive to you all.  We are actually through by noon or a little after on Thursday [so I hear ????].

Busy day tomorrow and tomorrow night.  Then pack and hit the road Wed. morning.

Good evening. Don, great to hear from you. Chief is correct, often, patients are sent from a hospital to a rehab facility that specializes in PT. this has become quite common over the last several years as the cost per day is less, and it better facilitates the patient to return to full ability.

Prayers lifted for Jeff too. Diabetes really can take its toll on a body. Hope he is up and active again soon.

Chief, look forward to catching up. Hope we are able to work things out. I will have to check the schedule to see what time I will be done.

Maybe putting Don in a nursing home is what they have to do if he has no cast on.  Hospitals are too expensive for long stays now.  They always kick people out as soon as possible.  I tried to call him this afternoon but no answer.  I assume he was occupied or asleep.  Maybe he was getting that transfussion.

We had dinner with our widower friend again this Sunday night.  He is doing as well as one could expect after losing his wife recently.  He is looking forward to a trip to Paris with his kids at the end of this month.  Wish I was well enough to do that.  Right now I'm leary just taking a trip to Pasadena.

Ran some trains this morning and listened to a Willie Nelson album while in there.  There was an article about him in the paper today.  He just gave a concert here and sang a lot of  popular songs like, Blue skies, September Song, Crazy etc.  He is 80 now the article says.  His guitar which he calls Trigger by the way looks as old as him.  It has a hole in it where there is no finger guard from years of playing.  I think they just keep patching it up for him.  I like his song, "On The Road Again" which was my theme song when I was working on the railroad.

Afternoon all.  Don is not in the best of shape.  Blood count is down.  Going to give him a unit this afternoon.  Nurse told him late yesterday that he might leave Thursday for a rest home.  Don is upset.  Told him rehab center not rest home.  He kept insisting she said rest home [as he put it, a stinky place for old folks who poop and pee in their dippers].  Don't know if it was the drugs or the nurse. 

Will call him soon.

Glad to see Don in Good Spirits and it looks like he is healing well. Prayers for you Don.

Went fishing this morning with my son and a friend of his. We caught nothing! I had a nice weakish chase and hit my lure right up to the boat. A lot of hits but no takers.

At the Edison show yesterday I scored a Lionel 456 coal ramp complete very reasonable.

I had a great time with Fife and Brent on Saturday. Fife, just let me know when you want to go fishing. York just goes too fast!

Doug: It looks like you and Ben had a great time!

Don, really good to see you were able to make a

post.  Looks like you're ready for Halloween with that

scar.

Went to Pomona,Ca. Fairground yesterday with my

son to see the U.P. Big Boy #4014 before they move

it.  Figured it might be my last chance before the

fair.  Took lots of pictures.  The U.P. steam crew was

there taking some things off the engine.  They had

already taken the pistons and valves  out of the

cylinders and had them lying on the ground beside

the engine.

Don get well fast but not too fast.  Don't want to

reinjure yourself.  Thought of you the whole time

we were looking at those steam engines yesterday

and thought you would know the names of some of

the many valve handles on the backheads.  I heard

that they were going to convert the Big Boy to Oil

burning.  Right now it is set up for coal.

Aloha from a warm and sunny Chicago where I can't believe some kids are going back to school already - like Dennis' - ours don't return for another two weeks.  Prayers for Don's and Jeffrey's smooth recoveries.

Had a fun weekend, from visiting the steam tractors at the Threshing Bee to riding fire engines around an open pit gravel mine that is home to the Northern Illinois Fire Equipment Museum.

BBQ went really well yesterday...smoked tenderloin with grilled veggies and salads...yay!!

Morning all.  Hot and humid [what's new?].  Not much on the agenda today.  Only sprinkles here yesterday.  Lots of rain east where the crops are already drown.  Not good for the farmers there this year.  Here, its getting better as not as much early flooding.

Shake and Bake is liking the drugs.  Getting a lot of sleep he normally does not get.  That is good.

Tomorrow, haircut and meetings.  Wed. Off to Ft. Benning GA.  May try to drive to Dennis W's as we are through by noon Thursday.  Got to check his schedule.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a humid and foggy 74 degrees. Going up to a sunny 86 today.

Todayis an easy day. I have a few chores and some paperwork to do. Then, I can relax. I spent about 3 hours running trains yesterday. It was nice. Need to clean track in the near future.

Dining car is serving Cheerios for breakfast.
