Morning, Guys

We used to have those farm jacks on the Rescue Truck, came in handy several times.

The Reliant thrash on hold, those that are helping, felt it would be better to rebuilt slowly rather than thrash it.  I was assured that I'd have wheels for Labor Day weekend, as I'm heading to the Harrisburg Radisson for the Hemi Owners meet...

Back to work...gotta support you old retired guys...haha

Aloha. Happy Saturday from a beautiful day in northeastern Illinois. I am busier than I don't know what getting the middle boy ready for college and doing all the Mr. Mom things that my working bride used to do. Got his Chevy Impala SS fixed up to my liking: new brakes, some body work, replaced a hose... Think he needs a new wheel bearing but that has to wait. Had to get a new tire this morning though (ka-ching!). We drive him back to college tomorrow.

John, what did you think of Northlandz?

Don, my kids (who worked at Cedar Point amusement park this summer) said the same thing. The national anthem is played in the morning and everyone stops their work, stands to attention, steps out of the booths, and remove their hats. They can't face the flag because they can't see it from the parking lots.

Those Heritage units are nice - the NS ones are always running through Chicago, though I saw the UP C&NW (my favorite local road) the other day.

Went to the Washington County Fair last weekend. Had a great time with the family. My daughter won a sixth place ribbon for her cookie bars and a third place for her oatmeal cookies. It was her first time entering and was very happy. School starts next week.Crying

Sister in Virginia in the hospital may be discharged Monday if all goes well.  She will then go back to the nursing facility for a while.  Out of ICU now and on regular oxygen flow rates.  Pulmonary doctor took xray and found some blood clots in the lungs but is prescribing medication for that.  He was a little concerned about her heart rate and that was the reason for the chest X ray.  She still has a long way to go before she can go home but she is improving.  Thank you for your prayers.

Decided not to go to pot luck dinner tonight.  Our son is leaving on a trip tomorrow morning so we will have dinner with him tonight.  Got some chicken tenders anyway and we will have those at home.

Ray,

Check out Trainworld's webpage.  Best price I could find on all of them.

EVENING ALL!

Got to VA Hospital and back,  Went rather well, told me everything OK.  Wants me to have a hearing & vision tests.  (Said, data  was very high that guys who worked flight line didn't typically wear ear protection and had loss.)  So follow up scheduled for 3 months.

Chris arrived home, ready to go back to school Monday.  Found out he had a job interview for a part time Bartender at restaurant on corner.  GOT THE JOB!  Only works two nights a week.

(Doug, I think Cedar Fair is a great place for kids to get an initial job, they learn a lot  and get good experience.).

Chicken Burritos for dinner,  STAY WELL !

Good evening all,

Reffed 2 games.  Both blowouts.  Watched English Premier League game on NBC.  Went to Franklin, Indiana to see "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" on the big screen.  Got latest CTT.  Good issue.   Girls finally won a game, did not hear how boys did.  Sato starts 13th for AJ tomorrow.  Going to see Lucas for 2 hours tomorrow as well.

Konnichiwa,

Last night (Saturday) turned out to be a fun night for the kids and me.  The wife went to a jewelry party with some other ladies so the kids and I had a movie night.  We had movie snacks and watched Up.  I thought it was a great movie and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.  We have been lazy today and for some reason the family was moving extremely slow this morning so we passed on church which is uncommon for us.  I think the massive amounts of rain might have had something to do with it.  I decided it was better for us to stay home and enjoy each other’s company versus trying to rush everyone out the door for church.  I have learned that doing that somehow results in bad moods and lost focus on why we were going to church in the first place.  We have no other plans for the remainder of the day.

Chuck – I agree with the others; those Heritage diesels are nice.  As you stated, Trainworld has the lowest prices on WBB items.  I’m holding off on buying one now because I have a couple other items I need to find first.

Fife – Congratulations on being an uncle again!

Harold – Congratulations to your daughter!

I hope you all have a great day.

Joe

GRITS What else?

There is a cast plate about 4x6 inch that doesn't allow jack to dig into ground.  I just pulled out the biggest stump yet probably weighs about 700+ pounds with farm jack.  The biggest thing to remember is to clear out the dirt from roots then cut most of the bigger roots.  When enough pressure is on the smaller roots they will just pop.  Also the jack has a cheapo pump handle and caution should be given to pump it as straight as you can otherwise you can break the handle of the jack.  All in all I worked about 4 hours to get the stump out, spent 60 bucks on jack, got the satisfaction of getting it out of ground by myself and the OL MILs tasted that much better. I could of rented a stump grinder for 100 bucks and spent 2 hrs grinding but naw.

Hi GUYZ,

Another beauty of a day here.  Ran trains last nite in celebration of the big stump extraction.  NO PILE UPs all ran good with the Legacy 1.52.  Today got laundry to do then go up visit MOM this afternoon, her PITZA meter is low so I guess we  will have PITZA for supper.

JOEY D., no I didn't work at the Pioneer Tunnel this summer.  I just couldn't see spending an hour driving each way to and fro, then working 10 hrs. there for free.  If they'd pay for gas I might have done it but I have lots o stuff here to tend to.  Yes kinda missed it but I have lots o stuff here to occupy my time.

CHUCK, TRIBE is 6 games out, you never know.

Stay frosty my friends,

Thanks Laz, I kinda, sorta, figured, there was probably another way besides grits. Although a whole heap of them might just swell up enough to lift the stump out.

Good morning all,

Don, glad you made it to the VA.  I have hearing loss for sure working on the railroad for so many years.  Still procrastinating about getting hearing aid.  Not vanity but economics.  They ain't cheap.  Congas to Chris for landing the part time job.

Was planning on making the 9:30 mass this morning but wife got a headache after our morning walk and didn't want to go.  So we will go at 11:30 if she feels better or else I will go by myself.  "The best laid plans of mice and men etc"

Chuck, I will take a look at that website for heritage diesels.  I thought I might just buy a dummy unit if anyone makes them just for display or I could run it with other diesels.  Some people would collect them all if they made dummies.  I just don't need anymore powered units.  Got too many now.

later,

Ray

Good afternoon Y'all!  On call, had to go in early yesterday as "some dude" struck again.  Hate when that happens.  Just made rounds for the day...I know, I'm a slacker! Actually, who family is fighting the crud.

Farm jacks, I think we used to refer to them as "suicide jacks".  Dubbed so because of the propensity for a load shift when you got it raised.  Just be careful when using them.

Glad to hear the good news with Don's continued progress.  Still praying for Ray's sister.

God bless,

Dennis

Thank you Dennis for the prayers for my sister.  Latest word was that she might be discharged from the hospital tomorrow and go back to the nursing home.  They found the source of the infection which was at a medical port and have corrected it.  Subsequent test have been negative for infection.  This all started with the removal of a tumor from the colon.  I think they removed the entire colon and the infection set in during her recovery.  Hope she is finally on the road to recovery.

Aloha and good evening from a Hot northeastern Illinois. Went in to serve at church for someone who didn't show up to work their camera last night and again this morning. Then drove down to middle boy's college. Had to laugh: it took us about six minutes and two trips to bring all his stuff into his dorm room. It's tough to compare but when my daughter went to college - we filled two cars and it took hours to unload and settle her in, fix up her room, etc. We went to the local Targets to get a few things for him: total actual cost $3.37. So unlike his sister who took that opportunity to stock up on everything she 'might' need. Orientation for the youngest at school tomorrow. He doesn't start until Wed.

Konbanwa,

I had a nice five-mile run this morning.  Thankfully it was much cooler this morning than the past month or so.  The workday flew by but I don’t feel as if I accomplished much.  We had pork chops, roasted vegetables and salad for dinner.  Afterwards, since it was a nice evening, the wife and I took the youngest for a walk around the base and to the playground.  We’re now winding down for the night.

SJ – Thanks for the brief Tardis ride the other day.  I’m sorry it was so short.

Laz – That would be a great deal of traveling.  It’s good to see you’re staying busy.  How is the layout coming along?

BOC – I hope you find a few moments to relax.

Mike C. – I’m glad to hear Lucas is looking good.

AF Ray – The Yankees should have played a bit better but at least they won one.  DJ should be back tonight.

I’ll pray for SP Ray’s sister, Don’s recovery, and the rest of us in need.

Joe

Hello all,

It's a hazy 62 here.

Busy weekend never did get a chance to check in.

Jumping in this AM to say hello and ask prayers for another seriously injured rider from the Dirt Drags Saturday PM. He is in "Critical but Stable" condition with numerous internal injuries.

I'll fill you in later when I have time.

It's overcast and hot here this afternoon.  Feels like inside a sauna bath.  Wouldn't be suprised if we got a thundershower.  We could use it.  They have been having them out in the desert for a couple of days and the BNSF track between Barstow and Needles, California got washed out by a flash flood.  They are working now to get the line open aqain.  This is their main transcon route.

Had a brief chat with Don Baker this morning.  He said he had a good visit with the VA recently and found out he was covered for some stuff.  Says he is very restricted with two cast on now and can't do anything with the trains yet.  Wish we lived closer together then maybe I could be some help but his son Chris will help I'm sure.  Hey Don, this is a good time to look at some train videos and stuff like that.

I'm bored too this week but for different reasons.  This weather just makes it difficult to do anything with my trains in the garage.  Must be the dog days of summer.  L.A. County Fair starts next week.  Always hot out there this time of year.  Worst time they could have it but they have been doing it for years.

later,

Ray
