Good evening all,

Work was quiet.  Boys played well and lost 2-0.  Girls played badly and lost 7-0.  Hmmm, now guess which team can win sectional?   Hint: it is not the girls.  Good weather for the game tonight.

Good evening all!

Just a quick stop in and caught up on all the post's.

JoeD - Yes they are making a run and they're taking no prisoners after sweeping Toronto today four games straight. Mo seems to be back on track. After appearing in both games of Tue double header I told my daughter that no way will he pitch in Wed game, which was one of our scheduled games. Boy was I shocked when he pitched the ninth on Wednesday. It was also the night when Ichiro got his 4,000 "career" hit. Class guy. What was the reaction, if any, over there?

Later....

Yes - but I also had an old laptop that I installed the LCS Software on, then backed up the base to the laptop (recommended by Lionel because the software upgrade COULD erase your system data).

What is a farm jack? Sounds like something I may need since I have a bunch of 24"+ diameter stumps to remove!

Good Morning!

Doray and I got back last night from our little get a way at a Bed and Breakfast in Millford, NJ. This place is truly a great place to just relax. If you care to check it out it is www.chestnuthillnj.com . This was a mystery trip for me. She had my son program the GPS and she told me to just follow it. She would not tell me where we were going. We had a great time and I finally paid a visit to Northlandz, a giant layout of mostly HO but there is O and G scales also. Of course we had to take the train ride. We spent over 2 hours there. We will definitely be going back there.

Don: Sorry to hear about the thumb being broken also. Get well soon. Prayers

Brent / Fife: Havre de Grave was on the list but got trumped ! lol Whe we were talking about the trip and Maryland was mentioned Doray suggested that if we went there to invite you guys to join us for dinner.

Brent: A farm jack looks similar to an old bumper jack but it lifts 24" high. I had one that I used to install my dollie wheels under cars when I had my wrecker. Very useful. Tractor Supply, Northern and others have them. Pretty inexpensive.

Everyone have a Great Day!

Morning all.  Sunny but they say big rain this afternoon due to front.  Suppose to rain yesterday evening but didn't.  Thank God.  Now to dry out for abut 5 or 6 days.

Got to run.  Wifey is home and wants to run errands getting supplies for concession stand.  We are running tomorrow night for the Family Movie Night at the Middle School football stadium.

There is always confusion on what to do when the National Anthem is played.  When I was in Boy Scouts, High School and US Army [may years ago], we were told: uniform, salute.  No uniform, stand at attention.   You see folks doing both.  Did research this AM.  One site said you did not have do anything.  Farther research shows the following [as you can see, changes have been made in the last few years]:

Proper protocol for Star-Spangled Banner is found in a separate code under Title 36 of Patriotic and National Observances, Ceremonies, and Organizations, and listed under Chapter 3, Section 301 on the National Anthem:xx During a rendition of the National Anthem, when the flag is displayed, (a) all present should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (b) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and (c) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and (d) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.
However, in the National Defense Authorization Act of 2008, it contained an amendment to allow non-uniformed service members, military retirees, and veterans to render a hand salute during the hoisting, lowering, and passing of the U.S. Flag. In a later amendment in 2009, it authorized a hand-salute during the National Anthem by veterans and out-of-uniform military personnel. Thus part (b) above was modified to include "members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner provided for individuals in uniform."
So, in recap, for the Pledge of Allegiance, if not in active military uniform, men's hats are removed and held over the heart. For the National Anthem, if not in active military uniform, men's hats should be removed and held over the heart, or may be left intact and a military-style salute given. And, as a side note, women are never required to remove their hat, whether in uniform or not, but still hold their hand over their heart (non-military or veteran) or present a military salute (if in uniform or a veteran).
So, hopefully, now the next time you attend a ball game, concert, school event, or public event you will know.

Now you know [and so do I].

Have a good one.

Hey Thanks; That is a very helpful post! I had always heard as a VET I should salute, but being so long since I was active I never felt comfortable. I was proud of my time in the service, but thought the salute should be reserved for active.

Thanks Again

Good Morning !

Things going OK, very, very slow, but OK.  Got an adapter for the walker due to the arm cast.  Now a person has got to want to move desperately to be willing to try and use this.

And, while keeping right leg from ground!

Noe, this is really going to seem ridiculous!  Last April I thought it would be a good idea to sign-up with the VA.  Would you believe they called and want to do a base line evaluation physical tomorrow!!  I explained my current condition but they still want to proceed.

Hopefully today will be able to work on some old motorized units.  The article in CTT a couple months back was real good.  Did two before accident, will take longer but should be ok.

Later,

V8 Dennis, thanks for the information on simi automatic etc.

Chief, thanks for the National Anthem etiquette information.  I always stood at attention and faced the music if no flag when out of uniform.  Did not know it was OK for Vets to salute out of uniform but the president does when returning a salute like when boarding an aircraft.

Don, that is some contraption you have for a walker.  All it needs now is a couple of rockets attached and you could move around like rocket man.  Unbelievable what the VA told you about coming in now.  Maybe they want to see you, warts and all.

Have to go to a pot luck gathering tonight.  Need to pick up some wings or something to take.

later,

Later,

Don,  You may want to try wheels on the front legs and slider shoes on the back legs. This eliminates having to pick up the walker, I can move over flat areas much easier and faster. But take it slowly. And good luck.

Ohayō (Ohio Chuck),

It’s a wet Saturday morning here.  Some men and I from the church were supposed to meet at the church this morning to reconfigure/restripe the parking lot, but the rain has prevented that from happening.  The wife will make a pancake breakfast shortly and we will have a relaxing morning/day.  We don’t have anything else on the agenda so we’ll see what comes up.

AF Ray – I sure hope the Yankees stay hot.  They begin a need-to-win series against Tampa Bay this weekend.  There was quite a bit of news coverage on Ichiro over here.  He and Matsui are heroes to Japanese baseball.

John – I’m glad you and Doray had a great trip.  It looks like a fun time.

Chief – Thanks for sharing that information as I’m sure many were unaware.  Please note that the rules for those in uniform are different if the event is indoors; no hat, no salute.

Ted – Veterans earned the right to salute and keep saluting.  Thanks for your service.

Laz – Did you work at the Pioneer Tunnel this summer?  Enjoy the fall free from kids.

Sayonara,

Joe

Hi Guys,

Hi Joe,  I always look forward to reading your posts.

Just sitting here watching the Indians / Twins game.  If they keep winning, they might be in the Wild Card running. I hope so.

I have my eye on a UP Heritage series SD-90 made by Williams. It has the MKT " The Katy" colors. I have seen them range from $99.99 to $329.00 for the same engine. Maybe next month.

Y'all have a nice evening.

Good evening everyone. Long day, and week. Got some kind of funk the kids brought home from school.  Regarding the greats I have seen, I was blessed in my days with the fire department to do EMS coverage for some of the venues in the area I grew up in.  Saw so many acts and met so many talented performers. Just didn't realize how great the opportunity was and it became old hat to me.

After finishing at the hospital today, I took in an estate sale. They had an "O guage" set they were selling. It ended up being a kit with brass engines and kit form rolling stock, along with lota of two rail track, etc. only wanted $150.00 for it, but had to pass as I don't have time to work with it.

Gotta run and get some sleep.

God bless,

Dennis

Sister in Virginia in the hospital may be discharged Monday if all goes well.  She will then go back to the nursing facility for a while.  Out of ICU now and on regular oxygen flow rates.  Pulmonary doctor took xray and found some blood clots in the lungs but is prescribing medication for that.  He was a little concerned about her heart rate and that was the reason for the chest X ray.  She still has a long way to go before she can go home but she is improving.  Thank you for your prayers.

Decided not to go to pot luck dinner tonight.  Our son is leaving on a trip tomorrow morning so we will have dinner with him tonight.  Got some chicken tenders anyway and we will have those at home.

Chuck, I like those heritage diesels too.  I like the original Norfolk Southern one in red, black and yellow.  Been waiting for a good price.

Chief - During the national anthem at the start of a game at Yankee Stadium AND during the 7th inning rendition of God Bless America my children learned long ago how to show their respect for our country. Sometime during each song I'm able to give a glance at them just for good measure. It bothers me when I see people walking around and talking during these songs. Shows complete lack of respect.

Frustrating at Knott's, when park opens National Anthem is played number of people walking quickly to get in line.  very frustrating!  If an employee is not facing flag respecting anthem, they can be given a written repremand.
