I HATE SMART PHONES FOR POSTING!!!!!!!!!

Tough week.  Granddaughter Victoria's bloodwork at the six week mark showed no improvement, platelet count way too low, another month of waiting to see if her immune system corrects itself.  Son-in-law's Dad now on day 7 in the hosptal, heart issues, surgery decision looms......and his Mom cannot be left home alone, so we are watching the youngsterS and one oldster. I have been riding herd on the carpenter and the painter as work continues on the house exterior.....the usual hassles where what is supposed to be done and when it has to be done must be reiterated.  Oh yeah, car issues which will require a dealership visit to refix what they fixed but did not stay fixed.

Grammy and Grampy are trying to cover all of the bases with the family stuff and helping out watching the grandchildren.  But now the stuff I need to get done or manage aint getting done!!!!

Don here.  Sure is a great honor to have to Chief here.  Feeding him good so he is happy.  Going to let him show me how to really run the Knots steam engine this afternoon.   Sure will be sad to see him leave Wednesday morning.    Never had such a wonderful person stay and visit with me.  Great advisor on trains and O gauge trains.  How luck I am to have him visit.

Thank you Don.  Kay has been a great hostess.  You have struggled to drive drive me around the sunny CA.  Only problem is, you constantly make U turns.  Seem we are always going in circles.   Well, I will give you proper instructions on steam engine operation this afternoon.  After all, I have clocked numerous hours on the Tomas in the park and etc.

KAY grilled chicken and brats last night.  Outstanding.

Enjoying my trip.

Good morning all,

Chief and Don, glad you guys are having a good time.  Kay sounds like a good cook and hostess.  Chief, don't let Don run out of water on that steam engine.

I bought a Southern Railway MTH proto 1 F3 A-B-A diesel set at the train meet yesterday.  It is in the Pelican paint scheme.  That's the one with white tops and double white stripes on the sides.  I put it though it's paces this morning while it was cool out there.  Everything works fine.  The seller had already installed a BCR so I don't have any battery issues. I'm glad I had some experience in programing this kind of engine because the instruction sheet left some stuff out.  It has station announcements which can be triggered by setting it up with the bell button etc.  They did not even mention this feature in the instructions.  All she needs is a couple of new traction tires.  Not a problem.  The engine is like new and no wear on the pick up rollers.  I paid $200 which I thought was a fair price.  It originally sold for about $680.  Both A units are powered so I have four motors and will pull more than I will ever run.

I have been nursing a sore feeling in my abdominal/chest area.  At first I thought it might be an old ulcer acting up but I'm beginning to think it's more like a muscle strain or something.  Don't think it's a hernia.  Nothing is bulging out.  Feel a little better today.  Hope rest and no heavy lifting will help.

Real happy with my paint job on my 96 Honda Accord.  Looks like a new buggy now.

Don and Chief, how about some pictures of your travels.

Ray

Don here.  Sure is a great Burden to have to Chief here.  Feeding him good so he's to full to think of them nasty grits .  Going to let him have a ride in the cab of Knots steam engine this afternoon.   Sure will be glad that I can refill food supply for $50 instead of $500 it took while he was here twice in one week come Wednesday morning.    Never had such a person stay and visit with me.  Great advisor on n and HO Scale trains.  How lucky I am to have Wednesday just 2 days away .

Just a quick stop,

Was a hot one today. In the 90's. I got my running around done in the morning so I organized my tackle box and made a trip to the bait shop for tomorrow morning and stopped at the German Butcher Shop and came home with pulled pork and pierogies. Life can't get better.

AF53, Ray, we will see Patrick whe he gets home. I am sure that the hospital room is crowded with Cathy's family.

Jack: Prayers for Victoria and SIL's family.

SPMan: Hope you feel better. Glad the paint job came out well.

Chief/Don: You guys are having too much fun!

Should've told Chief to try the fried chicken while he was there at Knotts. Haven't had any of their's for a very long time but that is how they got their start many decades ago. Dinner

Don, If they happen to have any fireworks at Knotts tonite or tomorrow be sure to handle some of them prior to the show and before washing your hands rub them allover Chief's luggage & carryon. Laugh  Whistling

Doug, excellent suggestion about the fried chicken dinner at Knott's.  Best I've had in these parts.  Do hope Don and Chief will have some.

Wife finally got her new cirvical collar neck brace today.  She says it fits good.  Hope it helps.

Just took a dunk in the pool at fiveish.  Don't call it swimming just cooling off.  One hundred in the garage this afternoon.  Best time is in the morning.

Got update on my sister in Virginia.  Still in the hospital maybe for another week.  Not much change but she is OK with staying there until she can manage at home.  Have been communicating with BIL via Email to hold calls to a minimum but I need to send my sister a card at least.  Do that tomorrow.

Need to decide what's for dinner.  Always a problem because all three of us have special dietary needs.  Hard to get some of the stuff I like because the others can't eat it.  Might just buy something out and bring it home.  They can all pick their own poison.

Took some Tylenol this afternoon for my discomfort in the chest/abdominal area.  Some kind of strain I think.  Helped a little.

Looking forward to some pictures from the Chief.

Good evening all,

It is HOT in SE Indiana.  Work was ok today.  Got a lot done without too many dramatics.  Did a little outside work.  I think our apple tree is done.  There had been some major limbs cracking from the strain of all the apples this year, but one of the primary ones gave way today and the remaining ones show major signs of stress and crackage.  It was one of the 3 original trees left from when we moved in (lost 2 in the tornado and others over the years have died out) so now we will be down to 2 large silver maples.   Although wife is sort of upset, I am not sorry to see it go.   It has been a major pain to mow around and removing dead branches in the past was always an adventure.  Glad to see Chief's western swing going so well.   TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

RAY.....glad to hear your sister is coming along and will be home soon.  With all of the family you have so far away you might want to consider a calling plan on your hard wired phone that includes unlimited domestic calling with no restrctions, no limits.  My Verizon plan had that option and my cable company has it, Comcast.  Also, my Verizon wireless plan has unlimited "Verizon to Verizon."  I bet we spend a couple of hours a week on the phone with family and friends.  I had ATT for my long distance before Verizon and Comcast also had unlimited long distance, no restrictions.  Expensive?  No.  The ATT was about $35 per month.  Same with the Verizon land line for local and long distance.  The Comcast plan I have bundles cable TV, internet, local, and long distance.......was cheaper bundled by about $84 per month and I got the rate guaranteed for two years, plus they threw in HBO and STARZ movie channels.  JACK

Don, Doug, Ray, and Dennis.......rumor has it that you kidnapped the Chief and are now holding him for ransom.  Also heard that negotiations broke down when his wife Pam balked at paying anything more than $1.99 to get him back and proposed to pay you in currency from the Confederate States of America.   :-)   JACK.

Hot and humid today, Rain late but it didn't change the comfort level at all.

Did the grass and garden good though.

Having fun in in Sunny CA.  Knots is great.  Cab ride and caboose ride was too.  Hot standing next to the boiler.  Fried chicken was great.  1/2 is a little much when you get soup and salad first.  Then mashed potatoes/gravy with ham seasoned cabbage served with  the 1/2 of a fried chicken.

Kay and I went to Fullerton station for some rail fanning.  Saw three Am-tracks, 4 freights and 4 commuters.  All in a few hours.

Now relaxing.  Shake and Bake will be late as he has to shut down Little Toot.

Konbanwa,

I rode my bicycle to the gym before heading in to work this morning.  It was already hot and humid outside, but it was a good way to start the day.  I have nothing to report on the work front today.  We had grilled pork chops, homemade macaroni and cheese, and salad for dinner.  We also had some fresh tomatoes from the garden; that is one nice part of the heat.

AF Ray – It’s a shame they couldn’t make it in a proper scale. Wink

Jack – I’ll keep Victoria in my prayers.

Sayonara,

Joe

Hot and humid for Michigan. Temp is 80 going into the 90s.

I still got a blank page this morning instead of the last page. A chat with some of the guys last night and a late afternoon downpour finished my day. No new train news yesterday.

Good Morning

Another hot and muggy day here. Going up to 90F feeling like 111F...indoor living is the thing for this week by the looks of things. Le Sigh....

A friend of ours, who owns a couple of stores in 2 malls, told me this morning that it looks like the malls were pretty quiet yesterday...not a lot of foot traffic...this kind of makes me think that most people have taken heat advisories/alerts seriously.

Oh, and yesterdays hay mowing took a couple of hours...early morning was still pretty sticky out....

Have a good day!!

I usually get the blank page when there is just one post on the last page but if I go into the coffee pot and hit las page from in there ( the double arrows ) it will take me there no problem also page count is off as its was teading like 302 for the first post on present page

What I'm thinking is happening when we get the plank page is that its on number ( example) 301 which should be the next page but number 301 is on the previous page some how so it gets lost looking for it on the next page

fifedog.....Obviously you are not a hostage negotiator.  Let a pro handle this.

We will only take the Chief back based upon all of the following conditions:

1. You give him a bath with soap.

2. You dump all the grits out of his pockets and luggage into the ocean if allowed by the EPA.

3. You guarantee he won't wear his Mickey Mouse ears on the plane.

4. He is escorted home under supervision of the CHIP.

5. He is not permitted to bring pets or fish onto the plane.

6. You send us a bank check in the amount of $1000.

8. Forget the chickens.  He would eat them on the plane if he was hungry which he always seems to be.

9. If he took the bunny suit to California, it stays there.

Good afternoon all,

Slow day here and hot.  Ran trains a little bit this morning then ran some errands with wife.  Went to supermarket and some yahoo already ran a shopping cart into my new paint job on the car.  Lucky it was just a nick on one of the side mirror housings.  Guess I will have to park defensively until I get used to it.  I should go to the market in my old Buick.  Everybody gives that thing a wide berth.  If anybody hits that, they lose.

I trust that the Chief had a good ride on the steam engine at the berry farm.  Tomorrow he will be winging his way back to North Carolina I presume.

Wish I could go back too.  Got relatives to check up on in the East but alas, my health and American Airlines won't cooperate.  I have all my air miles with them but it's hard to get a flight with frequent flyer miles in the summer.  They have all but vacated the airport near me so now I have to go all the way to LAX to get a flight (about 35 miles) versus 15 to Ontario.  Lot of politics going on between the city of L.A. who control all the airports and Ontario.  They are forcing more and more flights into L.A. to pay for all their expansion work over there.  Meantime they are killing the economy out here and making it hard for people on this side of town.Angry

Enjoying  my new Southern Railway diesel set from weekend train meet.  Runs great!

Chief, have a safe flight home and thanks for visiting my layout.  It was indeed a pleasure having you.  Happy Trails, and may the Good Lord take a liking to you.

Ray, I hope you checked the silverware before the Chief departs CA for NC.  Laugh Then again since he doesn't use silverware in Roseyville, you might be safe. Mischief

This is just like the good old days when the Chief traveled all over without a laptop and it was my duty to harass him.  Thumbs Up

Ray,

Not knowing exactly where you are located, but what about John Wayne Airport in Orange County ? I've used it a few times when I couldn't get the flight I wanted out of San Diego. The airport itself couldn't be anywhere near as crazy as LAX normally is. Bang Head

Chief, Enjoyed the visit. Safe travels home.

Good Evening

Had a very hot muggy day here. Got to 92 feeling like 106 earlier
Tonight the low will be 75 feeling like 95. Oh joy oh bliss.

Most of the lawn is now looking scorched which is really not helping my mood any.

Anyhow thinking of turning in early as well. Have a bunch of meetings to do tomorrow. Another form of oh joy oh bliss...le sigh.
