Just a quick splash and go from crystal clear but cold Taxachusetts,

The Canadian geese here just won't quit.  9 dispatched back into the pond by Maximus three times today already.  Spent some time cleaning up the mess they left in the time they had.Bang Head

The past couple of nights the wife and I watched all of the internet video on Secretariat.  A horse never to be surpassed.  Miracle: RI52 and the wife watching the same thing, also an event never to be surpassed. Thumbs Up

Welcome charliebrown!!!!!

HudsonJohn.......please keep the good news on your Mom coming. Thumbs UpAngel

Bob......ya got me to thinking about my Dad who has been gone 15 years.  I resurrected my Dad's Navy flight jacket last month and "invested" $ in it to bring it back to life.  Between a seamstress and the leather expert, it looks like new, and I have begun wearing it again.  Also last month, poured $ into r&r-ing my Dad's old watch and am wearing that too.  I don't mean to preach to the younger amongst us, but NOW is the time to cherish those whom we love.  Carpe diem. Thumbs Up

Jeffrey.......am glad to hear you are back up and running with your new PC.  Lots of horsepower in this one!!!  Rich's MOPAR comes to mind!   Very amused by your aggravation with the new keyboard too.  Thumbs UpLaugh

DougDG........I never tire of the videos you post of the Museum layout!!!! Thumbs Up

Where have Don Baker and Traindood been hiding out? Sad

Chief.......I am having volume issues with Comcast, so don't feel that your cable/internet provider is the only one with issues.  My volume rises and falls (a lot), every channel, programming or commercials.  It's driving me nuts.  Comcast informed me that no one in my neighborhood is experiencing this based on their call logs.  I am having the issue only with the TV hooked up to the HD box.....hopefully not any of my equipment at fault.

KEV......you've got me inspired.  I need to take out my 1615 and get to work on it.  It has been dead for 40 years!  A divine resurrection in the making? Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

SJ.......you reminded me, it is time for me to get my hair trimmed back a tad.  Will get just the grey ones cut. Whistling

LAZ.......I need to come by your place for some trout and Ole Mils, so ya gotta stop throwing them back......the fish that is. Whistling

The right front channel quit on my surround sound receiver, time to get it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing.  Later, gang.

Good Afternoon all,

Chief, Tell them how it is on GUN CONTROL.  i think they may have sneaked in some TV control on you and cut off the Sportsman's Channel so you can't hear the NRA shows! Sad

Best thing for sorting out calls is caller ID, if we don't know the name or number we don't answer it.  Most of our friends call on our cell phones.  Also with Comcast the # flashes up on the TV screen when you get a call.

Been nice and sunny here the past few days, but also cool and windy, right now it's 45 with 18 mph wind making it feel like 37.

I'm at the toy train museum again cataloging photos, a never ending job.

BTW, two weeks til YORK.

SP Ray – I believe that was a scam.  Here is a link to an article about it.  http://www.bitterwallet.com/microsoft-phone-scam-being-run-from-indian-call-centres/32278

Joe, I read the article about it and I'm afraid I have been a victim of this scam.  It sounded like exactly what happened to me.  However the callers did not try to sell me anything or ask for payment for the service etc.  The bad thing is that they may have access to all  the data on my computer now if this is true.  I called my credit card company and told them what had happened but so far nothing has shown up on that at least.  I don't think I have any financial data on my computer but they might be able to use your name in some other way I suppose.  Need to find out more about this and report this to the proper authorities.

John.......I set up a separate ring tone (or tones) on my house (cordless and hard wired) phones for the phone numbers (incoming) I want to answer........ like family, friends, and any other number I need to answer.

Ray.......I wonder if a local PC shop can check your PC for unusual outside access set-ups you many want to have wacked.  Tell them what happened as much as you can recall from the discussion and places "he" took you to.  Or perform a "reset" of your PC to a previous configuration, the one the day before the call.

Today's high has been changed to 55°. There's a 15 mph northeast wind coming across the lake that is making it feel even cooler. Got the grocery shopping done and got them put away. I checked at Wal-Mart, Radio Shack and a local computer service place but couldn't find an adapter for my old keyboard. So instead I bought a USB keyboard that has the keys at a height I'm more comfortable with and it doesn't have those 'specialty' keys scattered all over it.

No plans for today except lay back and relax. I would run a train or two but there's parts I salvaged from the old computer laying all over it at the moment.

Chief - It seems there are a lot of politicians out there that want to attach their names to ANY kind of gun legislation, so that they can stand up and pound their chest and grandstand.

In my eyes, they are turning away from the 800 lb gorilla in the room...the lack of mental health facilities and yes, sanatoriums for folks that need to be kept away from the rest of society.  It wasn't the weaponry that was the common thread in the more notable tragedies, it was the systemic failure to identify and "shelter" those who will potentially harm others.

Just a nice easy day so far. We had the wood stove going all day. Took a nice afternoon nap, finally!!! Getting ready to leave for school. Tonight it metal fabrication. They will be introduced to the Brake, Shear, Shrinker/Stretcher and assorted hand tools.

Mom did good with her scan yesterday. The doctors are still amazed that she had no reactions to the radiation or chemo. All Positive!

Welcome Charlie Brown! Good Grief! Where up North are you? Looking for trains besides Ebay, I go to most of the local train shows, such as Greenberg's. York in a couple of weeks.

Jack: I have my issues with Comcast also. There latest excuse is the infrastructure and Sandy. They like playing the Sandy Card. But since switching I have to admit that my phone service is flawless. I had a ton of problems with Verizon.

AF53, Ray, No new boxes yet.

Have a Great Evening!

What they are trying to do right now seems to be like a band-aid fix, and we know what happens when it's time for band-aids to come off.

Besides, look at China. They don't have mass school shootings, they have mass school stabbings. Not a lot better. If someone wants to do something bad enough, they'll find a way to do it.

CHIEF,

Tell em what you think.  Tell them to start enforcing the laws that are in the books right now, not plea bargaining.  There was over 1000 people denied guns in the state of PA. last year, through background checks, and only 44 were convicted of trying to obtain a gun.  Mandatory background check in the state of Pa.  Why they didn't go after the other 956 people who failed beats me.  If denied they are suppose to come and get you, through probation.

My cousin is home after spending 3 months in the south west. He's wishing he had stayed longer(it's cold here) but his taxes had to be done. I'm sure we will be planning a couple summer trips soon. Nothing in the big news dept. today so I will just wait with the banilla...S.J.

Well I had to take down the train for the holiday. I was wanting to set it back up tonight but after going into work at 4:30am I'm just to darn tired to do it tonight.

A high of 55* for Thursday. I can't wait till the 70's get here. The top will be off the jeep!

Have a good night everyone.

I put my old computers hard drive (WinXP) into an external drive casing and I'm now scanning it for viruses and other nasty stuff. I don't think anything will turn up but you can't be too careful. Once that's done I'll be able to pull up my favorites list and transfer it over to Windows 8. That list was started back when I was using Win98.

Well it's time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Konnichiwa,

What a turn in the weather today.  I woke up to glorious sunshine and a much warmer temperature.  It makes being inside at work all day extremely difficult.  The workday is progressing quickly though which is a plus.  I have a parents-coaches meeting this evening for the upcoming baseball season.  Afterwards, I’ll grill some Kobe steaks for dinner.

SP Ray – The big thing these scammers are looking for is your personal information which they piece together with other information they might have on you in order to fully steal your identity.  However, based on what actions the scammer instructed you to do while on the phone, they may be able to remote in to your computer and access everything you have on it, or use it for illegally transferring contraband over the internet.  I would place fraud alerts on all your accounts and monitor them.  Also, do as Jack stated and have a professional see if anyone has been poking around in your computer.  Unfortunately, many local police departments do not investigate these matters because tracking down the culprits is extremely difficult, but I’d still file a report so it is on file should you need it in case you become an identity theft victim.

Jeffrey – I’m glad you found it; I found it yesterday as well.

V8 – Happy Birthday!

Charlie Brown (RJ)Welcome

Sayonara,

Joe

Hello all

Back in the Ol' Pueblo.

Had a nice ride on the new bike after dropping the truck off @ work. Needs a few adjustments, but I really like it! It gets front brakes tomorrow and the baskets go on soon.

Seems like a  bunch of the guys got a haircut. Guess it is getting warmer here. I think that's on the list for tomorrow, along w/ dropping off the taxes, and washing the dust off the car.

Kev - that's a lot of ore cars! Beautiful! PW stuff is the best.

CharlieBrown - welcome!

Jack - I'll try a get a pic of the H-21 when I go to the museum. Doubt I can get it and the Corvair in the same shotTongue Tied I still got Dad's nav wings around somewhere, have to dig them out.

Time to go hug the cat and find a pillow.

Good morning.

I'm feeling better now than I was last night, so I'm happy about that. Applied my 109's nose decal, and man THAT wasn't easy, but it still turned out better than I thought it was going to. Will seal the decal tonight and add the propeller to my 109.

Bright sun and a cold 24 on the North Bluff and going to 60 they say.

LAZ  YES  These pop ups are ANNOYING!!!! Dots - Sign

First day using Google Chrome for a browser a lot to adjust to, like where do they hide your bookmarks once you have opened a page?? Huh?  I loaded my bookmarks on a thumb drive so I still have them but I am not sure how to move them to Goggle. Things seem to load faster than with IE8

I was looking forward to getting out of Dodge this week but better weather is a coming so it can wait.

I need to shop for birthday gifts for one granddaughter and the grandson on my son's side. Both are the first week of next month.Hmm

Not much else to report.

 Have a good one guys.

Jake........hope you are feeling better.Angel  Maybe you are inhaling too much model airplane glue and paint.  Switch to train smoke. Laugh

Re the discussions on gun control......FIFE and LAZ have summarized it in a nutshell.  Treat the source, and enforce the laws already on the books.  Rhetoric and "feel good" words on a piece of paper don't get it done.  And they don't replace responsibility and common sense.

We had an adult conversation about this when the daughter and son-in-law came over a few weeks back.  First, we went over the most recent Connecticut school tragedy in which the mother of the shooter had so many choices and exercised zero common sense and safeguards when she decided to take up a hobby with her son.  I did my best to remain silent (for me) and only interject a challenge here and there to put some perspective on it.

"If we are in agreement that, versus gun violence, an exponentially higher number of innocent people die in unnecessary car 'accidents' a year due to the gross negligence of others, then it follows you would also be in favor of: having the federal government mandate ultra-low horsepower vehicles (because speed kills), reducing the maximum speed limit to 35mph, raising the legal driving age to 25, outlawing the sale of all alcohol (again), mandating cell phone jammers in all vehicles, and outlawing all coffee drinking and eating in motor vehicles.  Which of these things would you be willing to give up to reduce the unnecessary carnage?"

They didn't like any one of the recommendations that impacted them directly (all of them) and thought they were all extremist ideas, punishing all law-abiding, responsible individuals because of the actions of a few.  "I rest my case.  Cars kill, but you don't care about that."
