Temp is 28. Snow stopped falling this morning but it's been very windy. Banilla will be ready for the thingy crew. This is the short version as I hit the bar at the wrong time and erased all of my post...S.J.

Got part of the layout vacuumed this morning, around a quarter of it. Then the rest of my day got knocked into a bicorne (cocked hat)! My father needed help sorting through some stuff (somebody has to do it) so I went to help. I had lunch AND dinner there. Salmon patties for lunch, cheese burgers for dinner, all homemade. Now I'm wiped out. My foot hurts, my knees hurt, my back hurts! Even my neck hurts. As far as layout work goes today was a total drag.

OhayĆ,
I woke up early this morning: the youngest wanted to start the day early and the wife and princess were getting ready to go on a daytrip. The girls are going on a local Japanese tour which also has a strawberry-picking component. They should have a great time and will return later this evening. It is a bit chilly today but it is very sunny. The boys and I will hopefully stay out of trouble. I should have time to catch the Tardis.
Chief – I have not been totally corrupted. I never said anything positive about CSX, just pointed out the inferiority of NS.
I’ll be praying for Mike C.’s daughter and BOC.
Enjoy your snow folks, but please be safe.

At work tonight and it looks like I will have to work at least a double.Nobody loading but have to try to keep this place open.Supposed to get at least 18 inches here.Be safe tonight!
Well, my office shut down just before 1:00 and it has been snowing here since this morning.
So far we are at about a 1/2 foot of dense, wet snow, and it is supposed to snow through the night.
That said, I did get a couple of hours to work on the layout this afternoon.
I doubt that the evening train to Greenport will run.
Needless to say Saturday will bring more train time !
Safe and sound at home.

Raining Down the Jersey Shore.
Blown Out: Hang in there and hopefully it will work out.
Ryan: Good luck with your health issue.
Mike C: Prayers for your daughter.
Kev: The Dakota is a 2006 and I never abused it. This truck was Murphy's Law (No offense Doug) if something was to go wrong it would happen to this one. It was the cleanest truck in the fleet. The front suspension is an ongoing problem that we seem to have with all of the 4x4 Dakotas. Wait, make that the Company I retired from has. They also seem to go thru rear differentials in them also, along with automatic transmissions. The other thing that got me about this truck is that the radiator support rotted out when it was 4 years old and it is a common problem that they had with others.
Jack, Ken: Be careful with this storm.
Jeffrey: Just thinking of all that you have been thru lately. Hang in there.
Be Careful,
John
Hello all
Pretty good day today. Slept most of yesterday so the bike will have to wait. Weather coming in now so too windy and rain in the weekend.
Did pick up the recovered bicycle seat made in Moscow, Tenn. Very cool. Doesn't look all goofy like the new ones and was cheaper. And anything that came from Moscow, Tenn. deserves to be preserved Chief will like that I have a Southern part on my bike.
Got the bushings in for the hardtop will pick up the shocks later. The cactus wren took a dump in my bank account (you guys in the military remember the saying about the eagle? well, that is the AZ state bird) so I need to pay rent to the house. Then maybe see if the ME boxcar came in.
Mike - thoughts and prayers for your daughter
BOC - hang in there buddy
Take care back east

Brent,
Congratulations.
Ryan,
Had to laugh about snow or rain bringing people in. Every time I've been to a salvage yard, I've had to go during a downpour. That usually ends with me taking shelter in whatever car I am pulling parts from until the rain slows. The yard I go to is all mud too.

Evenin' boys. Evenin' English. Damp and 41 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Hang on to your hats RockIsland and the Jerzey Boyz. Feel bad for anyone that had plans to go to , and now no . Gotta get a hair cut then take the ladies out for dinner. Fifepup is all situated up on the mountain top in WV. Hope things will work for the better.
88 - Handsome fellow. I shall make him my honorary grand nephew.
cheapclassics - for your princess.
Kev, I dont know, you got the recipt, so you know Im not blowing smoke........
speaking of blowinhg, I wish it was blowing snow here, I might have to move further north.
I even went home at lunch and took firewood inside, so I wouldnt have to do it in the snow tonight.
Garanteed, had I not, we would have a foot on the ground right now, just how my luck works.
Even though there is big plans for layout relocation in the future, (i guess 1 -2 years from now Garage will be done this summer, but interior finishes will take a while) I think I am going to add a couple of more loops to the plan I have going now. looks like a good night to work on that.
still have painting to do tomorrow. almost done.
I got back on a "I am going to liquidate my N scale collection kick" again yesterday, and let me tell, key word is "LIQUIDATE" I cant believe what new in box N scale is going for on the bay. for, now, and for as little room as ot takes up, I will sit on it.
I may wait untill i am closer to re building the layout and try trading it for O scale. My LHS doesnt deal in N or HO, so his offer was to Consign it for me, but it would take him years to do it he did offer to take it all to YORK for a rather reasonable percentage, we'll see
what a slow day at work today. Had it been snowing or raining, every nut case and there brother would have been in. I cant figure it out, its always been that way.
Ryan
KRMJeffery, How does your layout get so dirty?? Looks a lot better now.
Good afternoon,
Not much going on around here on The North Bluff. Sunny and high 30s. We missed the snow mess they got in the northern suburbs of Chicago like DougM yesterday and that is fine with me.
Went out and did some squirrel hunting this morning but the little suckers seem to be on to me now.
Jeffery, How does your layout get so dirty?? Looks a lot better now.
Ryan, Still nothing?? Maybe today.
John, Thanks for the offer on the table saw. What year was that Dakota? I had 167K on my 2001when I traded mine and other than 3 heater cores and normal things like brakes and front wheel bearings. I only did tie rods and a front driveshaft.
Chief, take your life jacket.
Buckeye, It is always good to get home.
Ken, Jack and those of you in the northeast be careful and lay low till that storm passes.
MickC, prayers are out for your daughter.
BOC, You dodged the bullet. Take care pal!
Later.

Aloha. TGIF. Glad to have been able to grab the TARDIS as it swung by last night. Very glad not to have had to commute during the 8 inches of snow overnight. Sent the snow on to SJ and points east. Buckeye, you sound like a well-traveled Johnny Cash. BoC, glad for your recovery and that you are still with us - no salt seems like a small price to pay. Hope to run Ivor this weekend after the youngest's school choir and play.

dougdagrump Ray, After start-up how long does the sound continue if you kill power ? If it doesn't continue for about 10 seconds powerup and let it sit for an hour or so. Instead of a "Feature Reset" try a "Factory Reset". Time to hit the hay. Supposed to be raining in the morning so I have to be out the door by 6 in hopes of avoiding most of the idiots on the freeway. Nite all !

Doug, I don't think you hear any sounds if you shut off the power abruptly but isn't that typical with proto 1 stuff? This is proto 2. Anyway I did do a feature reset and also a factory reset. Neither one did any good. I have fully charged a battery overnight and I will try that as a last resort but the battery in it is not dead. It still has enough power to light up a small street lamp. I also heard from a repair guy on another forum that he can upgrade it to a proto 3 system. I'm waiting to see what that would cost. I also asked him to make me an offer if he wants to buy it to fix up for resale. I might talk to my friend, D. Baker and see if he has any ideas. I know he has DCS too.
V8, good job on the radiator. It's great when you can fix things yourself on a car. The dealer repairs will kill you. Hope they catch that killer soon who is running loose around here. I doubt if this guy will ever see a courtroom if they find him.
Got errands to do today. Have to go to neighboring city for personal business. Hate to go to a strange place but I have a google map. Just hope the rain holds off for a while.
later,
Ray

Got my YORK registration yesterday. Not sure if I can make it or not but I’m going to send it in. Who else is planning to attend?
Not much planned for the weekend. Got a quarter of beef to put in the freezer tomorrow. Probably have to do some snow removal too.
Prayers for those in need

Got out early today because of the snow. 12:10, we usually get out at about 1:10, must be somewhat of a bad storm.
Good Mornin' Again From Cape Ann Taxachusetts,
MikeC.......you have my prayers that your daughter starts to turn the corner on these complications and can be made somewhat comfortable in the meantime. As a parent we feel so helpless.
BOC.........was disappointed for you about your health update. It has been a long tough road for you the past six months. Hang in there, buddy.
Jeffrey......it has been a gruelling two weeks for you. Lay low, rest up, and get feeling better. The layout cleanup will still be waiting for you unless the layout cleanup fairy intercedes.
Brent........Matthew is a cutie. And he dresses better than you do.
Spanky......little Tyler's Atlantis choice wasn't in any way influenced by his parents, was it?
JimmyT...........thank goodness it was a couple of transformers that got trashed by the water and not your engines and rolling stock or accessories.
SP Ray..........ditch the new stuff and stock up on c-o-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n-a-l !!!!
Just got a text from my AWOL son. He ran out earlier, didn't return. He is going to spend the blizzard hunkered down at a friend's home 20 miles from here. My wife and I will be all alone.
Later, gang. Laundry time. Got to break out the candles and flashlights, charge up everything that needs charging, and take out the extra batteries..... in case we lose power.
Jack

Good morning all,
It is cooler in SE Indiana with temps in the 30s. To all, I appreciate the thoughts and prayers so far for daughter, but I am asking for some "extras" to be sent to Bloomington (via Indiana Rail Road) as she is having a hard time of it. Some pain killers she was on last night brought her breathing rate down to 4 per minute and they had to bring her out of that. Now they are worried about blood clots as well and giving her medicine for that as well. She is in for a fight and she needs your help. Thoughts and prayers going out to those who will be affected by storms out East. Not a good day all around. No beacon tonight. BOC, I hope you get better soon. Jeff, nice clean up on ball field. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Temp is 31, of course we have snow, I haven't been out yet but it looks like at least 6 inches of the stuff. Bob Evans sausage and biscuits for breakfast. Yesterday, signed up for my York badge at least from there we will be looking back at old man winter...S.J.
Snow is removed and so am I. Lite fluffy stuff, blew all over the place. Not too bad maybe 5" tops.
ChiefEagles Lehigh Valley 2089 KRM, from my experience, it's been the opposite. Everything NS is better than anything CSX. Smart young man after my heart. Seems Joe has been brain washed by the Japanese by making a comment about CSX being good. We all know KEV is a lost cause anyway.

Don't worry LV as you get older and get experience you will get wiser. As for Chief,,,,,,,, There is no hope.
All of you guys in the storms path, be careful.
Going Squrrel hunthig for a bit.
dougdagrumpJack, Hope you got a good supply of Brandy"medicinals" to gaurd against frostbite, just not while running the snowblower. Will it be equal to the storm of 1978 ????????
Doug......I don't think so. It may be close. Weather misforecastes say at the least this blizzard may make the top 5 worst of all time (if they have it right). I am still in the 18"-24" zone as is Boston proper 20 miles to the South of me.......with the forecasters right now leaning toward 24".
1978 storm was 27" (Boston total) and we have had 2-3 other storms right around that amount. South of Boston the forecast calls for 24" to 30". I wish I could help Ryan out but I have no way of transporting the snow to him. Locally here, I had a storm of 34" a few years back. Realize that 2 feet of snow may not seem like a lot, but the drifting can easily take the accumulated snow depths up another 3+ feet!!!! With this storm, the misforecasters expect drifting could take the depth up as high as 8-10 feet!
The serious stuff is not supposed to begin until later this afternoon, will continue for 36 hours, but no snow right now.
The power companies are geared up for widespread power outages (heavy weight-wise snow areas) and higher sustained winds over the next 1.5 days. Coastal flooding expected at high tide later this morning (3 foot storm surge and ocean winds)Schools are closed today. Gas stations have already started to run out of gas. Grocery stores running out of stuff. The Boston transit authority will make their last runs and then shut down aftert 3:30pm today. Some businesses are closed but I suspect the rest will be sent home around noonish. Logan airport in Boston is going to remain open despite massive flight cancellations......probably incoming cancellations so that they can get as many planes out of here as is possible.
MA. State DOT wants everyone to stay off the roads so that the snow plough crews can keep the main arteries clear......but usually a whole heap of self centered knuckleheads ignore the warnings because they think they are "special" and more important than the rest of us. Then they (shock!) get stuck, block the roads, and a terrible chain reaction starts.....most abandon their cars right there in the roadway, road snow removal stops, and the highways become parking lots where the snowbound cars will have to be towed out one at a time, roads then cleared car length by car length, a very slow process.. Same knuckleheads then tie up emergency crews to come rescue them. News guys just announced that in the last storm of this magnitude the DOT had hundreds of cars towed, estimates 400+ !!!!!!!!!
I'd leave those stupid idiots out there to rot for a while, let them worry, then charge them for the rescue, arrest them, fine the c&^p out of them, charge them triple for the towing and vehicle storage, and suspend their driver's licenses and registrations. No excuse for this..
Later, gang.
EDIT: Chief. The Ariens snowblower is serviced, gassed up, and ready to go. Just got in from warming it up for about 5 minutes. Have 2 gallons of fresh gas on tap.
Morning. Cloudy. Really rained hard and wind blew early this AM while still dark. Off to the lake house later today. Taking small boat and hopefully find big dock cables with grapling hook [like we did last year]. Probably not do until Sunday as 15 mph winds tomorrow.
Jack, hope you have the snow blower tuned, gassed and ready.
Ken, stay at home and don't go out in the snow. Hope you and Jack keep power.
Blown, take care of your self. That is not good.
Have a great weekend.

Good morning. It's 55° with 100% humidity. Heavy clouds this morning becoming partly cloudy later. The high will be 68°.I thought I was feeling better this morning but I'm making plenty of spelling errors. That usually means something's still amiss. Oh well, guess I'll just have to live with it. Layout cleaning today unless something or someone interferes. I started with the park. If that was any indication I've got a lot of work ahead of me.Before:After:
Blownout, That news sucks. Take care of your self, do what the docs tell ya. I have fallen off the wagon on my diet of low this and low that, and if it tastes good don't eat it, etc. I have to get blood work next week prior to my next doc visit, and I am gonna get an earfull.
My biggest issue is the food part. I like salad. but as an active person, a salad at lunch it doesnt stick with me till dinner. Then till ya load it up with all the goodies its no good for you any way.
Salt is my biggest down fall, I think over the years I have single handedly kept Mortins in business
But, I like you have been experiancing the shortness of breath (smoking isnt helping) So we'll see the the docs say in a few weeks.
Take Care
Good Morning!!
mmmm...around here we are going to see about 4-6" of wet snow...being close enough to lake erie's north shore wherein they seemed to have gotten mostly rain...and no freezing either...we got away with it again...but...the school board still closed up the schools....
Well, it was on Monday morning that I started having breathing issues..as in I simply could not breathe. Took until Wednesday at the hospital to get to the point that the fluid around my lungs got cleared away...and now I am t home....whew...but...the thing now of it is is that it is now CHF...otherwise known as Congestive Heart Failure....ergo...low salt, low fat, low this low that......but I is still alive!!!!
Everyone East of here...stay safe!!!
