Aloha. Boy, what a difference the sun makes this morn. Going up to 40, as Kev said - which will seem hot. Good class last night and long train ride home. Happy your daughter is home, Mike. Prayers for her recovery and your other thing. Hope to work on one of my layout towns over the next few days.

3 of the 4 post are broke Jim. This car definitely had something spilled on it. once I find my soldering gun ( lol probably with my voltage meter ) I have some rewiring to do on some cars and probably the engine as haven't taken it apart yet. Know it needs a new smoke unit.
Still have chills/fever this am.
Not much else going on here.

cheapclassicsGood evening all, IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s. Daughter is HOME!!!! The "saucy wench" will be headed to Bloomington tomorrow to help take care of her so I will be "baching" it the next few days. I told her not to worry about me as the adult entertainment and the kegs were ordered and scheduled to arrive 5 minutes after she left Heckfire, I will be too tired after work as it is. Good news about daughter balanced by bad news on that which I cannot talk about. I was way too optimistic about certain situations and I had hoped to be able to tell you all about it today, but there are now several events to be played out and the end result is now a ways off. Again, thank you for the prayers for the daughter. She is not and will not be 100% for several weeks, but hopefully the worse is over. TBIL and there will be victory barrel rolls tonight. I hope everyone has a good day. Where is Dennis W.? Keep on training, Mike C. from Indiana

HUGE CONGAS for your daughter's continued progress!!!! I am certain you and your wife's help while she is on the mend is one of those things that she will carry with her as a milestone event in her life. The wife's trip to Bloomington may seem like a little thing in the grand scheme. But it isn't. As my Dad always used to say, at the end of the day we have our family.....and family and health trumps everything else.
Hang in there, buddy. Your interim survivor mode in your wife's absence will be tough; but someone has to do it. What time should we get there for the , , and the adult entertainment?
Jack

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....
It is a cloudy 29 degrees. Going up to 38 today with no rain.
Today is a busy day. I have an errand to run and the usual chores to do. Not much else new. Lunch and a nap, later.
Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Wednesday.

I am getting off easy again for valentines day this year. Just a card and a trip to a buffet in East Earl, PA (up by where LAZ lives, I think). They have a Valenties day thing there , worth the hour drive and a half day off work.
Jeff, I am all to familar with meds and the side effects being worse than the thing they are to be treating. My feelings are, if a pill makes you that much more sick, i can't be good for you period.
dont know what today has in store just yet
every one try to have a good day

Good morning.
I have Pep Band tonight, so I won't be working. However, Pep Band will still keep me up to a certain degree.

Konnichiwa,
It snowed about an inch overnight but not enough to cause any delays. The roads were clear when I woke up at 0615. I’m wrapping up the workday now. It was not a busy day at all today. I will be on leave the next two days and Monday is a holiday so I have mini-vacation to enjoy. The wife is heading out of town this weekend with her Japanese culture club so the kids and I will be on our own Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I think we’ll survive.
Mike C. – I’m glad your daughter is home. I’ll keep praying for you and her.

Well I'm having a little more trouble than usual with my balance. Just means I have to be very careful when walking. I feel much better than I did last night at this time. Maybe tonight I'll be able to get some sleep.I didn't get anything done on the layout today as I was taking it easy and trying to keep things from getting any worse than they were this morning. It's time to call it a night so I'll see y'all tomorrow. No rain tonight. How about that?

Good evening all,
Good evening. Just thinking about what I should get at the train show in Scranton that is coming up in a few weeks. I know I want a #2055 Hudson with a 6026W tender. I am considering a 6464-500 boxcar and a 3459 dump car.
Will be heading up to bed soon. Night everyone.
Temp is 34, we didn't see the sun today.
Diodes & discs, they both work have had both fail. They should just go with what they like. Grannys baking kept us home today and I don't see much chance of getting away tomorrow. I will wait for the thing with banilla at the ready....S.J.

Everything ok here after the blizzard.Never lost power at home and only a partial loss at work.Put in twenty hours Friday night into Saturday morning. The Dodge pick ups we have at work now were no match for the storm.Got stuck several times while plowing.I miss the Chevys that they replaced. Not saying that the Dodges are bad trucks just not speced out right for plowing.
RT,
I wonder if Lionel made some 3464s that didn't have the shells prepped properly? The 3464 that I have has a quarter-sized area on the roof where the painted flaked, and I've seen others with similar issues. Be real careful with the screws that hold the shell to the frame. The posts that they go into break very easily.
I wish I would've taken Brent's advice about not undercoating the Mustang. I've got one of the rear parking brake cables stretched, and it looks like that was caused by the undercoating causing the cable to bind. Whoever sprayed the undercoating must've been blind because the bottoms of the rockers are untouched, but they sprayed everywhere (and everything) else. The cables are only available through Ford dealers, and the lowest price I can find is about $60 each with shipping.
Jim
Thanks Jack.
Well got another ebay win it won it a few days ago ( birthday present you know a little late but heck) it came with a ZW transformer works fine needs the first U post replaced but so what, don't really need it. Also has a 2026 2-6-4 ( missing front wheels and axle to rear trailing wheels) needs a good lubing and a smoke unit which I will do eventually. does run thou but could tell it has been run in many, many years as it started slow then got up to where it should be. The e-unit cycles like it should thou. a x3464 NYC operating boxcar got it working but the shell looks like it had something split on it and even looks like some of the paint started to loosen on one side and the top who knows what that is. also got a 6012 short gondola its dirty but fine. A milk car that also needs rewiring befor I even try to operate it 3472. Got a 3520 generator car with search light needs new search light piece. and a x6014 white Baby Ruth boxcar actually the best looking of them all. Oh the tender that came with this set is a 2224w from prewar have to rewire it also to see if it works all is free in it so at least its not froze up. So I think it will.
Starting to feel a little better still have the chill thou. at least the sick and runs feeling has left for now and I have been able to hold some solid food down.
Need to start making a parts list up that I'm going to need thou.
HM just got the 5th degree again about trains oh well she'll get over it.
Kev, Doc Dreadful's Zombie Lab is a great gift. My youngest has it. I hear you about my neighbors hitting their center garage post all the time. I think it's less that the doors are too small - since the house is almost 20 years old - but that the cars are now too big.
Off to teach class.
Good evening. Can't wait for dinner tonight. Really hungry right now. Ramen Noodles sound good right now.
Brutus.........I was glad to read Chewy's eye is getting better. Last week I got a tab for $250 for Maximus' annual checkup and lab tests, all is good. On another topic, I have a great idea. Join a gym with your daughter and the two of you can work out together, she working on her knee and you working on, well, everything.
SJ........that was good news from the Doc. I am certain you can tolerate not seeing that one for a while! If it is pain that you miss, get a tatoo.
RT........enjoyed the pictures of your newly launched benchwork. It has been a long time in coming and you worked pretty hard to get to this point.
Later, gang
RedfireS197 Kev, I was going to get into the diode discussion, but I chose to stay out. My suggestion would've been to install a diode as those have worked far better than even reproduction oxide rectifiers for me, but I didn't read that out of a book. After all, book knowledge is right and personal experience is wrong, correct? (I was being sarcastic right there BTW ) I stay far, far away from said "experts". Had enough of that type throughout college.

I am with you JimmyT. Let them circle their wagons if they want too. The guy who works on my transformers has been doing it for 30 + years. He has about a thousand of them in his basement and knows his stuff. I will take his word on it.
I may have been a weeee bit sarcastic myself with the said "experts".
KRMJeffery, I was thinking the same thing as Jack on your glucose levels. I am glad you got the tablets but you had better try to get something down even if it means using the pink stuff.

RockIsland52Jeffrey......hope you get to feeling better and don't get dehydrated. No sleep. No food. No fun. I also hope the fasting to settle down your stomach doesn't throw your glucose levels out of wack. Does plop plop fizz fizz agree with you? Or PeptoB?
Good afternoon,
Just got back from Wilmington IL. where I picked up a car for the dealership I drive for. Nice drive through the countryside but the car smelled like Pig food or lets say the framer who was testing it out left his boots on.
Jack, My wife was eyeballing some pot planted Tulips at Krogers last time we were there so I went there and got her some for the Hallmark Holiday. I think she will like it and know she will not figure on that.
I also was told by the daughter that JR’s birthday party is going to be moved into this month a full two weeks before his birthday. So I had to order a Doctor Dreadful Zombie Lab from Amazon. I hope it gets here in time.
It seems I got some of the forum’s self proclaimed experts up in arms over diodes verse rectifier disc. Oh well sometimes they are just too much to bare. Letem go. The guy with the question and I took it to PM. Each his own.
jeffrey-wimberlyI haven't had anything to eat today. My guts are still twisted in knots from spending most of last night and this morning on the throne. Darn meds and their side effects! Seems like the side effects are worse than the conditions the meds are supposed to help correct.

Looks like the major storm front has blown itself out but there's still some small pockets of rain coming through here. We still have a 50% chance of rain today. The weather guesser is saying the high will be 62°. Looks like I should be getting a couple of DZ125 decoders today. I'm hoping a box of stuff from Canada will come in soon too.I haven't had anything to eat today. My guts are still twisted in knots from spending most of last night and this morning on the throne. wrconstruction About the valentines day card, I could buy her a million dollars worth of what ever, but I BETTER have a thoughtfull card to with it. If Hallmark depended on me, they would have been out of business years ago Ryan

AMEN, Ryan.
For over 20 years I have been getting a dozen long-stemmed red roses in an arrangement for my wife. I have them delivered the morning before Valentines Day, or I deliver them myself, but always a day early. I do it a day early so that my wife is the first amongst her co-workers to get something from their significant others. Then she gets to enjoy them there at work every day for the rest of the week. I go at the end of the week and transport them home for her. I can't tell you how much it means to her, or why. It just does.
Now you may observe "What a total waste of money the roses are." Or, "I could take her out to a very fine restaurant for the price of those stupid roses."
And you would be right, except.......that is not how my wife thinks and feels. In fact, I bet most women don't believe that fresh cut flowers (or jewelry) are ever a waste, especially as a rememberance on Valentines Day.
I bet most women are wonder "Where has all the romance gone? Why doesn't my husband treat me like he used to when we first met? Why is it romance and frivolous, unexpected gifts were the norm back then but not now? Am I less important to him now? He can take me out to dinner any time. Why is it that my husband always has to have a practical reason for doing things and puts a price tag on everything? Why can't my husband respond to this special occasion with some thought rather than just going through the motions in the same old tired way, like this was a chore for him or something? If he put 10% of the thought into this as he does with his stupid train purchases, I would be happy."
Women feel. Men think.
So do yourselves a favor. Act now. Surprise the wife or girlfriend. It just might buy you a pass on that next train purchase. Nah, didn't think so.
Good Mornin' Y'all From Crystal Clear Taxachusetts,
Some of the school districts are still closed in the aftermath of Snowmageddon Nemo, the more urban ones (Boston, Lynn) still digging out and having to resort to trucking the snow somewhere else and/or using snow/ice melters if they can get ahold of them.......like the airports use. My 9 y/o granddaughter is back to school today. Last night late there were still over 100,000 electric customers without power in MA., but the power companies say these poor folks will be back on line by Thursday.
KEV.......two separate 10' wide garage doors as you suggest would work far better for me versus my 8 footers, as long as they were taller than the 7 foot height I have, for reasons already discussed. Sagging single wider doors? My FIL's single wide door doesn't sag a lick after 22 years. Accumulated junk? Homeowners' /choice/fault, easily fixable regardless of the doors used. I have neighbors that have two car garages that are filled floor to ceiling with everything but cars. Those sit out 365. Imagine what a hassle that is in the Winter (ice, snow)......Or what the sun and birds do to the car finishes. "Jack, how do you keep your cars looking so new?" They just don't get it, just moan and complain.
Increased heating and cooling costs (and dirt, moisture, leaves) with or without the wider single wider door? And with the wider single door, maneuvering far enough left or right for ease of ingress/egress while avoiding car door dings? Valid points. A wider and deeper garage than 24' x 24' would be my choice if I were building from scratch.
I would spend a ton of time examining both the historical heating cost options (oil, natural gas, propane, electric) and the projected costs before choosing the mode(s) options of heating that might be better. The government has a web site with a lot of good data along with a ton of Q&A.
Personally, I would not want to be chopping, splitting, seasoning, staging, and hauling wood in my declining years. Pellet stove might be more viable (40 pound bags), but the bags have to be stored/protected AND like nearly all of the energy choices the pellet cost per bag has been rising out my way. But the heating with a stove option means "working the fire" manually 24/7 in order to maintain the 50 degrees low temp Ryan wants to maintain during the Winter. At the end of the day, I might want a no fuss, set it and forget it heat source with the stove kicker where I could go either way (or both) at my discretion and my means (financial, time, and physical). Remember the good old days when no one cared about heating costs? Or insulation factors?
Air conditioning? No brainer. A couple of high SEER-rated 220V, remote controlled units, mounted in wall sleeves (shade side or with awnings) about 6 feet up.......or at a height high enough to be effective yet low enough to be serviceable (or replaceable, unit weight factor).
By the way, we have some friends that build a detached (from the house) multi purpose building: garage, boat storage (2), work area, all lawn and garden storage. Tall enough to add a loft for trains. Heated but no A/C yet.
Later, gang.
