Took the day off and relaxed.  I'm still recovering, bed time is in sight.  Got a lot done yesterday, however.

Stopped by my LHS and put the NJ Transit Work Train on layaway.  $50 down, Total was $275.  Purchased a set of trucks, unfortunately, they are not Lionel, but MTH.  Rebuilt a Lionel Lines Nc5 caboose from 1953.  Just need the front and back railings.  Rolls very well and just need to clean it a bit.  I'll be looking to light it up and maybe detail the interior.  My investment so far is an amortized $12.00.  I'll need to find a roller pick up and light.  Should have those somewhere, then to find table and chair and a ladder for the cupola.

I took apart my Wanderer and figured I give it another go around before I scrapped or parted it out.  Turns out the LOVELY MTH POS Battery took a dump.  I had another in inventory, charged it up and lo and behold, it worked.  I ran it for an hour on a small Atlas O track set up on the carpet.  Runs and does what it's supposed to do.  Pleased about that.

Chief - Ban Low Performance Drivers, NOT High Performance Cars.  Some Most people can't drive to start with.  It's a shame that kids are involved.

Never really smoked, Dad did, though.  Gave it up because it would have interfered with his US Navy flight pay.  1968, I think.

PrarieType - Nice job on the 2026.  Still working on my "little" project.  Just got the MagnaTraction engine on the evil bay, someone I've done business with previously.  Nice shape, soon, I'll be putting it together.  Once it works, I'll start looking into TMCC'ing and RailSound'ing it, with a nice smoke fan unit.

Looks like I'll miss page 41......we'll see.

Off to the bed...

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

Jeffery, What kind of car is that in the picture??? Huh?

94 Buick Century Custom Limited with a 3.1 V6 bored over and modified to an overcranked 3.3 and a customized four speed automatic. The suspension system was from a Buick Rivera. It had over 350,000 miles on it when I scraped it in 2010. Did I ever tell you that one of my former hobbies was building cars? I wasn't going to sell the car to anyone to drive because the chassis was broken in several places and the body would have eventually broken in two. Basically a death trap looking for a victim. So I made sure it was stripped and crushed. The light bar on the roof really did work and could be seen for miles. It had red, amber and clear strobes with takedowns and alley lights.

FIFE........it's your Ravens against my Patriots for all of the AFC marbles next weeekend up here in Foxboro.  Maybe we should bet something of substance on the game, like a bag of grits.  The winner can always use them to fill in holes in the driveway. Laugh

Not sure who to root for... like chosing to root for The Devil or Asmodeus! Big Smile

After this game I'll need to shower for a week and may still have the stench on my body! At least in the NFC game I can root for Atlanta!!!! Actually pulling for ATL to win it all now.

----

Not much going on. Trying to find out when Matthew's crib will get here from Redmond, WA. Was originally due on Friday, then rescheduled for today, but UPS says it is still enroute from WA... grrrr...

Brent,

As long as the Steelers are out, that's all that matters.Smile  I've found that UPS delivery dates can be sketchy.  I get stuff from Malvern, PA the next day, but it's a guessing game with other places.  I'll never pay for expedited shipping from Slowegg ever again though.

Jack,

I usually don't get this lucky regarding clean, running pieces.Smile, Wink & Grin

Got new front tires on the Probe today after work.Thumbs Down  Hopefully at 198,850 miles, that's the last time.

Jeff........that is a nice photo of you, but I don't see your van with the pontoons on it and I don't see you wearing a life jacket.  Maybe you have an "internal" flotation device under that red t-shirt. Laugh  Hope your Dad's place doesn't flood.

That photo was taken back in 2007 or 2008 when I was still active with the fire dept.

Nothing layout related on the schedule today. I don't even want to look at it. I'm out of supplies anyway so what's the point.

My Wife's US Army #41 was starting and stopping then it just stopped and buzzzzzed. Tongue Tied So I opened it up and found a wire that came loose. Fixed that and all is well. When I came back upstairs here is what was 30' from the living room window having a snack. Smile

Good afternoon as the case may be. It's 33° with 100% humidity and it's very wet. There's a high chance of rain. The high will be 35°.

It's been raining all morning. Nothing heavy, just slow and steady. Looks like we're in for this most of the week.

Good afternoon.

Not feeling well. Gut hurts, head hurts, fatigued, I don't think this is a good sign of things to come. Just hope that I don't feel so poor later.

Just seem to have an issue picking the right 'Pro' team this year. As for college - do not get me started. Once it was announced AL was playing ND for the MNC it was easy for me to chose who to root for as I have a bunch of family that are AL fans - and after having visited Tuscaloosa this past Summer it was even easier to determine who to root for Whistling... and we ALL know how that game turned out! Hello all,

Busy weekend. Mrs has CRUD still, even worse. Took her to Doc this AM.

Got a scrip for Zpac and an pill to relieve cough. He also ordered a chest xray to to allay has suspicions of pneumonia. Results to follow.

I quit smoking two packs a day in '85 or '86. I tried using the gum (Nicorrett I think) but it gave me an upset tummy. I threw it a way and went cold turkey. I would absentmindedly reach for a smoke for many years.

Still running Dad's 254E under his tree on occasion.

Best get busy

Prayers for those in need

KEV.......I have to admit you are clever.  Order 8 train cars.  Tell wife in advance and show her, leaving out one minor detail, how many.  Post precious geanddaughter p hoto on SPF and show wifey all of the adoring comments from the guys.  THEN the shipment arrives and the cat is out of the bag!!!! Thumbs UpWhistling  Also I like the way the wife's baby shower turned out, with you sipping the frosties downstairs at the Moose with her upstairs with all of the girls.  "No rush, dear, take your time. Laugh

19 degrees, sun has left town. Sad Black birds by the millions in the front yard. Surprise Sending them to points southeast N.C.

Yes Jack it has worked out well. Whistling Hey I left a link on the post in SPF for those hats. I also got one for Jr, and me.

I got a set that had a pink hat and a wood whistle for Lexi when she was 1 year old. That is at her  house. She had on her brother's hat in the picture.

RT, Package on the way. Wink

Giving up and going to the eye Doctor for a new scrip for glasses. Geeked Mine are 5 years old and don't cut it any more. I can get a deep discount on the glasses if I go to the safety store at Cat so that is the plan. Trifocials again

Hello all

........You know, SJ does kind of look like Walter...

Now that you mention it, you are right! I have Walter sitting on my desk. A gift from the wife. My favort head bobber and I have many. SJ take that as a complement. I press the button and hear "Shut up Dumb A--" . Puts a smile on my face.

Pat

PAT, SubmmBob, and SJ.....it is always great to be able start out the day with a good laugh..  Sorry, SJ, but your likeness to Jeff Dunham's Walter in that picture that Charlie posted is pretty close.  Laugh

Pat and KEV and JoeyD.......the counteroffensive "missile" was fired this AM @ 9, and my bank takes over from here.  My bank confirmed this morning that the furniture company has not yet processed the credit for the furniture I never received (and won't receive), despite my email request last week to the Corporate Manager of Sales that they refund my $$$!!!!  Imagine that, same terrible service.  Same run around, different day from that company.  The bank said the credit to my bank account will post tomorrow, within the 60 day dispute window, and they will be handling things from here, with email notifications to me of their recovery progress.  If I get my wish, this furniture company will have the $$$ taken back twice, once from their credit to me and once from the bank.  And shock!!!!  My wife has shaken off the disappointment and has found an entertainment center she likes, though I have to admit I am surprised it took her two days to get over her disappointment and find it.  When the going gets tough, the women go shopping. Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

FIFE........it's your Ravens against my Patriots for all of the AFC marbles next weeekend up here in Foxboro.  Maybe we should bet something of substance on the game, like a bag of grits.  The winner can always use them to fill in holes in the driveway. Laugh

Jeff........that is a nice photo of you, but I don't see your van with the pontoons on it and I don't see you wearing a life jacket.  Maybe you have an "internal" flotation device under that red t-shirt. Laugh  Hope your Dad's place doesn't flood.

Chuck........after three knee surgeries on the same knee, I know exactly what you mean about the changing weather and the telltale aches/pains.  By the way, are you a Ravens fan?  Fife wants to know. Stick out tongue

SJ........nice score on that 1423W set!  Thumbs Up

BOC.......have you broken out your mink long underwear yet?  Wouldn't want your jewels to get frostbite. Whistling

RT........it sounds like your wifey's "XXX train prurchase moratorium" leaves you in a great position.  The 736 with tender and the whole set are now complete!!!!  Cow is already out of the barn!!! Thumbs UpStick out tongue

KEV.......I have to admit you are clever.  Order 8 train cars.  Tell wife in advance and show her, leaving out one minor detail, how many.  Post precious granddaughter photo on SPF and show wifey all of the adoring comments from the guys.  THEN the shipment arrives and the cat is out of the bag!!!! Thumbs UpWhistling  Also I like the way the wife's baby shower turned out, with you sipping the frosties downstairs at the Moose with her upstairs with all of the girls.  "No rush, dear, take your time. Laugh

Brutus.......hope Char is feeling better this AM. Angel

JoeyD.....what a disappointment with the Trainworld "slow boat to China Japan delivery. Sad

V8 Dennis......26 degrees is NOT cold.  Just remove Targa top from del Sol, turn up the heater, and cruise just like Martin Milner and George Maharis on the old TV show Route 66 did with their Corvette. Smile, Wink & Grin

Chief and LAZ.......so your dogs are better hunters than you two.  I thought so!!!  Laugh

JimmyT........I really like those open spoked Baldwin drivers on your 726, and the 2426W tender you scored neends no introduction. Thumbs Up

RaySP......you may want to consider adding those inside-the-house water shut offs (to the garden spigots) the next time you need to have a plumber over to the house.  If one or more of the spigots fail, you will be turning off the water supply to the house (for hours?) to get them repaired or replaced when/if they go bad.  Same with "by the toilets." Surprise

ROY.........at long last the crud subsides.  Glad to hear you are feeling better finally.  Think Chief cured his with the help of some white lightening. Laugh Thumbs Up

Buckeye.......there are worse things than no "delete incomings from Chief" user option on Google Chrome.  He has my cell phone number. Bang HeadSmile, Wink & Grin

DougM........are you looking for those O scale elephants in grey or pink?  Big Smile

PAT and all........I don't disagree that each of us are ultimately in charge of our own health.  I just don't trust myself to make my own choices.  Kind of like "a man who chooses to be his own lawyer has a fool for a client."  And health-wise I make enough choices (poor ones) and mistakes on my own as it is.

Ryan........re lost tools and organization, join the club.  Wifey asked me why I am so anal about putting stuff away and in its place.  I hate clutter (junk mail) and I hate spending time trying to find stuff I know I/we have.  Start with my tools, car keys, reading glasses, important receipts, and cell or cordless phones. Bang Head  Re under-the-stairwell shelving for display and/or storage, I don't see why that would not work as long as you made the shelving unit vertical at the tall end (display), mount on casters, and using the space behind the shelving for box storage.  No?

Prarie........just took a gander at your 2026 resto and it sure looks purty!  One of the earlier versions?  I am in the same boat as you with a 1615.....mine needs A LOT of work, been sitting for the past 25 years waiting on me.

Later, gang.  Gotta run.

Sun and 27 but no snow.

My morning started with a trip to the credit union with check for the truck. Oh great it doesn't open till 10 am. How quaint. You Can Quit smoking, Just say no more. I can say that, I did it years ago. Now those things really stink and you never notice it tell your a non smoker. I think they used my wanted picture in the post office when they created Walter. My fix for scratches on old locos is a Magic marker. It blends in well and you have not altered anything. Want to know why I just leave short post, I am tired of the font changing on me....S.J.

Chuck, glad to see your keeping milk in the house lately.

I recently got a 1615 that was complete and ran fine, but had a less than perfect touchup (flat black dabbed into the chips.  Taking the same touch up approach and having more experience on this second restoration produced and even better finish. I can't even tell where the chipped finish once was.

I have a 2025 with a similar problem, but I got it that way. Now, I don't have a problem with that since it was a great runner, had a nice front decal on it, and came with a 2466WX tender. Too good for me to resist.

Yeah, that was the quandry.  We didn't have another 2026. So this basket case would have sat for months or years, and someone, someday would have thought it wasn't worth keeping and pitched it (and that would have meant another classic postwar piece gone forever.

As it turned out the other members just gave the wreck to me, and now I have a nice runner with a lot of my own endeavor in it which makes it extra special.

As far as getting the photos to come up, I just copy and paste the URL of the photo in the text box of the "insert image" box.

Now, as far as the engine. That is a real transformation. If I had it, I probably would have used it as a parts donor for another 2026, and not even bother with a restoration.

This message will include the first photos I have posted in some time.  I'm trying to remember way back when, and use the guidance in the Community Help, and from one of you guys who tried to help with an explanation.  I may be asking again, however, if this does not work.

Here goes with a few before and after photos of a Lionel 2026 that was donated to the mall layout.  It was in pretty sorry shape, as you will see.  One of the drive wheels looked like it had been wrenched or broken off with vice grips. The pilot assembly and lamp asembly were missing as well as some of the drive rod linkage.  Even so, the locomotive ran.  I did have to replace the collector wiring.

Several years ago, and several times since then, CTT has run articles about tuning up, fixing up and touching up Lionel trains.  It sounded daunting, even with the step by step instruction.  The touch up painting tips were the scariest, because it seems like sometimes you get 1 chance and if you mess up, you live with it.

But I decided to attempt it anyway because there were three choices with this locomotive: 1) abandon it as too far gone, 2) cannibalize it for parts (except there wans't another locomotive to save the parts for), 3) restore.  I decided to go for it in total because there was not much to lose here.

Pilot, lamp assembly, drive rod linkage, and a new drive wheel were obtained from various sources including ebay. The touch up was successful.  It was a slow, incremental effort that required patience; I used Krylon semi-flat and a very tiny brush, slowly filling in chips and buidling up the paint until it was nearly level with the surround paint. I let dry for a couple of days, and then lightly sanded using 100 grit, 400 grit, 800 grit, 3600 grit, 4000 grit, 8000 grit and then 12000 grit.  The 12000 grit actually shine the chip are too much, so Ithen reverted to 4000 grit to match the texture. Lastly I rubbed the spots with my fingers and the body oil blended the filled area with the surrounding paint; and then I rubbed the area with a paper towell, which is the last abrasive used.

Here is the result: Before and After

Hello all

Sitting up here in the kitchen tonight. Lunch did not agree w/ me today so I slept for a while and then woke up around 3AM. About 22 deg F in the Ol' Pueblo this morning. Fairly chilly for us.

I don't smoke, but I can tell you nobody is trying to quit around here.

You know, SJ does kind of look like Walter...

Doug - looks like Z scale. Would be fun to have a set some day. Put together by a bunch of sadistic retired watch makers I thinkStick out tongue

Too cold to continue painting the bike frame or work on the car. All outside now.

Kev - should be able to pick up the transformers and switches today, place is closed on Sunday.

Now that you mention it, you are right! I have Walter sitting on my desk. A gift from the wife. My favort head bobber and I have many. SJ take that as a complement. I press the button and hear "Shut up Dumb A--" . Puts a smile on my face.

Aloha. 11 degrees up here in the city, Kev. All I know about the cheese train is the cheese wasn't real, but some advertising model. Looks like Z scale to me too. SJ, sounds like a wonderful purchase. Lubricated and futzed with a hand-cart motor I was using to power the rail zepp yesterday. I'm toying with adding another 'phased' transformer to join the CW80 to power Ivor. I just run two wires to the track and I noticed he runs low on juice in the corner of the layout. Still on the lookout for O scale elephants. I know there's a K-line bubble-pack of 2 (don't need the giraffes that come with them though).

17 degrees and bright sun coming up on the North Bluff. Don't knbow what they are calling for as a high but I know it will not be warm just winter.

I guess I will have some Cheerios and watch Perry Mason and think about the day. Maybe build a fire in the fireplace to save some LP.

I need to look through my boxes of old 0 gauge track and see what I have.

Later.
