Evening all. Not much going on spent some $$ on the house today so wife should be happy.

Took the day off and relaxed. I'm still recovering, bed time is in sight. Got a lot done yesterday, however.
Stopped by my LHS and put the NJ Transit Work Train on layaway. $50 down, Total was $275. Purchased a set of trucks, unfortunately, they are not Lionel, but MTH. Rebuilt a Lionel Lines Nc5 caboose from 1953. Just need the front and back railings. Rolls very well and just need to clean it a bit. I'll be looking to light it up and maybe detail the interior. My investment so far is an amortized $12.00. I'll need to find a roller pick up and light. Should have those somewhere, then to find table and chair and a ladder for the cupola.
I took apart my Wanderer and figured I give it another go around before I scrapped or parted it out. Turns out the LOVELY MTH POS Battery took a dump. I had another in inventory, charged it up and lo and behold, it worked. I ran it for an hour on a small Atlas O track set up on the carpet. Runs and does what it's supposed to do. Pleased about that.
Chief - Ban Low Performance Drivers, NOT High Performance Cars. Some Most people can't drive to start with. It's a shame that kids are involved.
Never really smoked, Dad did, though. Gave it up because it would have interfered with his US Navy flight pay. 1968, I think.
PrarieType - Nice job on the 2026. Still working on my "little" project. Just got the MagnaTraction engine on the evil bay, someone I've done business with previously. Nice shape, soon, I'll be putting it together. Once it works, I'll start looking into TMCC'ing and RailSound'ing it, with a nice smoke fan unit.
Looks like I'll miss page 41......we'll see.
Off to the bed...

Lots of rain showers today. Powers been flickering and internet service has been up and down, more down than up all day. Looks like we have a good chance for freezing rain tonight and tomorrow morning then rain all day tomorrow. The forecast I looked at a little while ago indicates we may be clear by Thursday. God I hope so. I'm so tired of rain, rain, rain all the time. This weather pretty much matches my mood and has me so depressed I don't want to do anything.Normally I'd work on the layout but I don't want to do that either. I haven't touched anything on it for two days now. Last thing I worked on was the GP40/AS16 thing I was messing with. Well guess I better post this while I still can. Be back tomorrow if I can.

I got my mini fuse holders today and wired up some to protect the smaller wires on the layout. They are nice and will work well. I will just use fuses on the accessories but will use the resetting breakers in front of any trains because they are prone to derailment shorts. I have to go to the dentist tomorrow and make an app with the eye Dr. to get some new specs. Other than that not a lot today to speak of. Just cold like it should be here on the North Bluff in Jan..Oh yeah I forgot, the wife's US Army #41 quit working today so I had to take it apart and found a wire unhooked. Fixed that and away it went. How long should new brushes for one of them be?? The ones in it look short to me.????
Glad your feeling better LV, Take care.
Night guys.

Howdy All.
Wow! Talk about a bunch of "Chatty Kathys", must be the onset of winter weather.
Been busy and just to pooped to post, sit on the couch and fall asleep. At the museum on friday and the first half of sunday. The cold has been miserable out here, no way I'd be able to stand this or worse for a full winter. These most recent drug changes are driving me nuts, crank the thermostat up but my hands stay ice cold most of the time. Almost to the point that SWMBO will only reluctantly hold hands with me.
Doug M_ re the photo, that's gouda. Sorry, couldn't pass on the pun.
Forgot what else I was gonna say. Guess that tells me it's time to say nitey-nite.
Later all !

Feeling better today and definitely better than Sunday. Cold here. Only hit mid 40's today and will get to 28 tonight. Looks like same for tomorrow. Big train show this coming weekend in Plano. Our ad-hoc group are going to get our 8x20 layout ready to display. Should be fun. Calling it a night.
Have a great day tomorrow all!

Sad. Took it right our of your pocket.
Konbanwa,
I attempted to enjoy a long run this morning, but the roads and running path/sidewalks were not cleared very well. Most of yesterday’s snow melted into slush and then froze overnight and created some serious rutted terrain. Needless to say, after two miles I was too worried about hurting myself or slipping and being hit by a car to continue the run. Some of the ice melting this afternoon but the overnight temps will be in the mid-20s so I doubt it will be any better tomorrow morning. That means I will be forced to run on a treadmill tomorrow morning which brings me no joy. I have to do it since the marathon is at the end of next month and I need to complete many long runs before then.
The workday went by quickly today and we had pizza for dinner. I was able to briefly hop on the Tardis during my lunch break this afternoon. The boys (Kev, SJ, Brutus, and Charlie) were scheming something.
Ryan – Having your wife drive sounds like a great idea and a positive start to quitting. I suspect my father started smoking at a younger age too, but he never told us that. My mother starting smoking when she was 18 or younger and still does. She is about to turn 69 and already had one heart attack about 20 years ago. She may still be alive but the smoking has definitely affected her quality of life. What happened to you at work is awful. Do not feel bad for firing and prosecuting them; they need to experience some consequences for their actions. Some people do not appreciate the jobs they have; there are plenty of honest folks without jobs right now.
Prairietype – Great job on the 2026; it looks great. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Jack – I’m sure your bank will get it straightened out for you. It’s too bad it had to come to that. I sent another email to Trainworld today so we’ll see if there’s any restitution. I don’t consider $25 a fair shipping price for a small package that can take two months to arrive.
I’ll be praying for all of us need.

Good morning.
Supposed to get some snow this evening, and supposed to get right cold next week. Sister has been wanting to ice skate, so it looks as if she will be able to.
Ryan: Yeah, and they're the same people that will say that you backstabbed them. But then look at who was stealing in the first place.

Aloha. A balmy 19 right now in Chicago - today is my late night with class after work. Saw a nice sight in North Ave yard which my commute train goes through every day: six UP GP-20s and a long string of newsprint cars including three lettered for Soo. Ryan, I'm sorry for your losses and disappointment. There are hard workers and honest folks out there. Sometimes they are hard to find. Did you hear about this stolen train?

Good morning. It's 31° with 100% humidity and (you guessed it) rain. Thee]re's freezing rain this morning and showers this afternoon. The high will be 32°.Rain, rain, rain. PLEASE! GO AWAY!! Woke up this morning to the sound of freezing rain hatting my roof. And more rain throughout the day! Will it never end? Give me a break!I guess more more movie watching for today and I don't know what else.
A sunny 23 this morning.
Winter temps have arrived. No news to speak of so I will just go on my way..S.J.
Hi GUYZ,

KEV, I watched FINDING BIGFOOT on the Animal planet network on Sunday at 10PM. And guess where they were? Yep in Louisiana, looking for BIGFOOT. KEV, thanks for rubbing it in with the pic of the deers.
JACK, MINNIE killed 2 voles over the weekend too.

Hello all
Another cold morning here in the Ol' Pueblo. Coffee machine line froze this morning, so that caused some brief consternation Guess we have at least one more night of these cold temps.
Transformers and another box came in yesterday. Thanks Kev!
PrairieType - nice work on the 2026!
Off to run some errands before going back to work tomorrow. Need to get my hairs cut, pick up some transistors, change the oil, pay the storage bill, etc. Guess I better get to it.

Hey, their object of fascination doesn't look like this does it?
If so they better proceed with caution. It's big, mean and heavily armed.
Good Mornin' Y'all From Still Tolerable Weather-wise Cape Ann,
Yesterday we hit 58 degrees and it was dry but the temps are falling back to the Winter norms with a small accumulation of sleet and snow expected to arrive tomorrow. On the whole, we are escaping the wrath of Mother nature this Winter. I feel sorry for the California boys.......heard on the weather news this AM that Los Angeles yesterday received some of the lowest temperatures experienced in decades. When is the last time the Boston Winter low temps were higher than Los Angeles' low temperatures!!!! Chicago proper without measurable snow in 326 days!!! DougM and KEV must be in seventh heaven, no shovelling, snowblowing, and plowing.
JoeyD.......thanks for the condolences on my furniture debacle. I called my bank yesterday morning to dispute the charges (from November 17) for the furniture not received and the complete and utter BS (one excuse after another) we have been receiving during the entire preocess. Last week I had responded to an email from the company asking me if I wanted a refund!!!. DUH!!!!! I demanded a refund via reply email directly to the Corporate Manager of Sales. SHOCK (not), nothing was credited to my bank account.
The bank's credit showed up yesterday within two hours of my dispute my call to them!!!!. Now the bank will haunt those, um, knuckleheads.. But as you and I know, outfits like this could probably care less. Probably worth a letter to their President and a negative comment on their public propaganda "customer comments" page. The latter will get wacked as soon as someone in their organization realizes my excoriating remarks of my own experience are out there for potential future customers to read.
CHUCK........hope your wife comes home from her annual with no new news.
Roy and Lehigh.......glad to hear both of you are feeling a tad better. BOC, sorry to read you are now feeling under the weather. I wonder if you put Vick's Vapo Rub rather than smoke drops in a steamer's smoke unit if that will ease your congestion.
Prarie......what a beautiful job you did on that mess of a 2026. Simply beautiful.
Jeffrey......... enjoyed your account of the ultimate demise of your 1994 Buick Century Custom Limited. That bought back a fond memory for me. For many years when I had no money, I drove one $100 beater after another. In 1975 I owned a rusted out 6 cylinder 1963 Chevy Biscane with a three on the tree and a zillion miles on the odometer. One late night after pulling out of the Rutgers University (Newark campus) parking lot (night school), I heard a loud clunk and felt the accelerator drop all by itself to within an inch of the floor board.....plus the car was completely stuck in second gear!!! I was dressed in a business suit and didn't dare stop for anything in that Newark neighborhood! I drove the entire 13 miles South on Route 1 to Avenel NJ and home, driving the lights the entire way, may have cautiously run one or two in the process. Turns out the frame around the engine mounts had rusted very nearly clean away. Had a frame shop weld in supports and remount the engine, got another two years out of that one.
JimmyT......re the last set of tires you will ever need to put on the Probe, methinks you may have thought that the last time you needed tires on it.
LAZ & Chief........my dog somehow KNOWS without looking when there is a rabbit in his yard or when someone is just walking down the street on the opposite side of the street!!!! Sometimes I wonder if it is a scent theing, a hearing thing, or both. It amazes me. He's my "LAST ALERT wireless home security system."
Chief........I surely hope you are proactive (as in OTC pain meds) with the aching joints and muscles you will undoubtedly get with this new exercise regimen.
V8 Dennis.......something ain't right with your auto insurance. Then again, you live in California. You should be getting the benefit of multi-car discounts and should be "under the annual mileage threshold" for other discounts for most of your current fleet. My company actually lets me take cars off full coverage (just fire and theft remaining) whenever I feel like it and lets me put them back on in the same manner with just a phone call (MetLife). Another thing......full comprehensive coverage premiums and low deductible limits may be costing you more than the vehicle is worth......say, for example, in a total or unrecovered theft. Maybe you should chat with your insurance carrier and voice your $$$ concerns. They should be able to come up with some recommendations to get your premium costs dow, changes you can live with.
KEV.......enjoyed that pic of you and part of your two legged herd. And the one with the deer, I can picture you getting trampled by a stampede just feet from your porch.
Re those GM LY7 3.6L V6 engines in the vehicles that your wife and your daughter may have. First, let me admit openly that I am not mechanically inclined. So please take with a grain of salt what I am about to type. This may not even be the GM V6 engine your wife and daughter have in their vehicles either.
GM used variations of the LY7 (2004-2009) extensively in several vehicles across their entire product line, including two Cadillacs (CTS and SRX). For some reason, some folks experienced two issues: one was premature timing chain failures, some failing as soon as 15,000 miles on the odometer and others who had to get the chains swapped out more than once under warranty (for some). The second issue was mysteriously disappearing motor oil, with some using a quart in less than every 1,000 miles with no leaks and no telltale exhaust smoke or poorly running engines, no codes thrown either. The guys on my forum have waxed on endlessly about both issues.
There are TSBs out there on the LY7 engine matters. GM has extended the factory warranty for timing chains on certain years and models and for other folks has grandfathered them in by reimbursing customers for off-warranty, out-of-pocket timing chain replacements. And they also extended the factory warranty on clogged catalytic convertors on some models I think.
"Watch/check your motor oil levels often and closely" is the repeated refrain on the cadillacforums.com. Sometimes the motor oil issues appear early on in ownership and with others appear after a couple of years, seemingly out of the blue. There is no discernible pattern either, or necessarily a gradual, predictable worsening in oil consumption. Still others have logged over 200,000 miles without these timing chain nad motor oil consumption issues. same model years no less. GM's official threshold for excessive oil consumption is a quart used every two thousand miles or less. They won't take any action for the customer unless a dealer performs a dealer-monitored consumption test.
I realize many folks never check their motor oil levels until the next scheduled motor oil change, or the engine starts making racket, or their engines throw some codes, or the check engine light comes on (low oil pressure). Then they get an unexpected and unpleasant, expensive surprise. Others are lucky to change their motor oils at all.
One poster/mechanic blames the whole motor oil consumption issue on improper break-in as he has rebuilt a lot of engines including the GM LY7 (rings and valve guides). He provided a whole bunch of photos of rings, pistons, scored cylinder walls, and gunked up valves in affected vehicles.
He states that the damage is done within the first 500 miles of new car ownership even WHEN one follows GM's break-in recommendations as printed right in the owners' manuals!!!! According to him, the rings don't seat properly and GM's break-in recommendations contribute to it, He goes on to say that without some occasional full throttle blasts early on (and with too many folks believing, old school of thought/myth, they should baby a new car) that the rings don't seat. And after 500 miles probably never will.
Later, gang.
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good morning or should I say good afternoon,
Well sorry Chief but I can’t move to N.C. yet as for I still have all of my teeth and according to the dentist today, he said I may have to wait years before I can look the part to move into Roseyville.
My eyes are wide open today,,, no really they are,,, I went to the eye doctor after the dentist and got my exam and new prescription. They are still dilated. She said I am starting to get cataracts but not bad enough yet to worry about it. I do need to get new glasses and will go to Caterpillar in Aurora on Thursday to order them up. Then have lunch with some of the guys I used to work with maybe.
Ryan, bummer about your workers. We had some of the same problems when I was in partnership in the yard. Worse part,,, the worse ones were relatives, go figure. Bet you they will try to claim unenjoyment on you next.
Roy,Glad you’re feeling much better. Did you get a flue shot this year?
LV Glad your better to.
Joe, It was nice chatting you and the guys last night.
Prairietype, that 2026 looks great! Good job!
BOC,take care of that cold, it is the last thing you need after all you have been through.
Doug, stealing a train sounds like it could be fun. When we were kids we would sneak through the cabooses when the train was parked by my mom's enpty lot and steal flairs and Bang straps they would strap on the tracks to warn the engineer if something was wrong. Boy was that fun and stupid at the same time.
Laz, who me ,,,, rub it in???? what??? I think they are looking in the right place for Bigfoot down there in Louisiana. Maybe they should ask for Jeffrey’s help with the hunt.
RT and Bob, No problem, enjoy.
RIJack, Thanks for the uplifting information on the daughter’s and wife’s cars. They both have the 3.6 but I don’t know anything about if they are LY7s or not but would bet they are, I keep an eye on the oil in the wife’s car and have never had an issue and it is now at 77K. Both were purchased used. Sandra’s with 13k and Katies with 48K. lets hope they are good ones.
Last but not least, V8Dennis, Thanks but my wife is not in that picture of me and my grandkids on the Gator, Next to me is my son’s wife’s oldest by some other guy. My step grand daughter or something like that. She is a freshmaan in high school
I got to stop, me eyes are hurting.
Ryan........I can only imagine how thunderstruck, dismayed, hurt, and betrayed you feel after discovering what your employees have been doing to you. Or how worried you must be right now about how to right the ship without sinking it. I think the Chief has the right advice......no knee jerk reaction. No application of the big bang theory.
Setting a very visible, decisive example with a few of the thieves will stem the bleeding (due to the rest of the thieves) quickly while you replace them, tighten down the screws with the auditor's help, and gear up for future action against ALL OF THEM. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Hang in there.
Good afternoon all,
It is still cloudy and cold and miserable in SE Indiana. Temps in the 30s. Wife was sick last night. Work was busy today, but got done all I wanted to do today. Watched 2 more episodes of "Rome". Definitely not family entertainment. Quiet night at home other than wife feeling badly. Have to go do some errands tonight. Ryan, my sympathies on your situation. Not having been in your situation, I cannot imagine the gamut of emotions you are going thru. The sense of betrayal is one I can relate to although not to this extent. TBIL and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

Those with no issues probably are not the mainstay of posters. And not everyone is car crazy like we are. I wouldn't worry either about your wife's and daughter's cars, not in the slightest.
