I got an update on my mothers condition and it's not good. They asked us (my father, sister, niece and myself) do you want us to make her comfortable or extend her life artificially? Well the answer to that was unanimous. Make her comfortable. Since watching both of her parents kept alive artificially she's been totally dead set against it and told all of us on many occasions not to put her through it. Just let her go. She stated same in her living will.

I think I'll take a break for a while. I'm just a bit upset right now.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 20s.  Stayed up late watching episodes of "Rome".  Only 4 to go.  Very nice series.  Very explicit in violence and sex.  Not for kids.  Some of it I do not watch as well.  Put more Christmas stuff away today.  That was the last of it.  May run trains today or tomorrow.  TBIL after "Once Upon a Time".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

dbaker48, I love watching long trains, but I like merchandise freights w/ boxcars, gondolas and flats more than I do coal drags or Piggyback. Still cool looking though.

Good Sunday Afternoon All!

Wow, go away for awhile and what do you get? Family Feud!

Just finished reading posts from the last 10 days and I thought I read a book.

All is good here and will spend the rest of the day doing some wireing on the layout followed by watching the Ravens / Patriots game.

Have a restful day all.

Good Morning All,

Another beautiful day although it is going to be colder than yesterday.  Going to dispose of the old Christmas tree.  They have a drop off place in the city where you can take the tree and they will dispose of it somehow.

Need to do some work on my website and thought I would do that today.  It has been a fun thing to work on since I retired.  It serves as a motivator to keep me moving on the layout and it's another way of kinda staying connected.

Jeffery, nice to see your back home and sorry to hear about your Mother, hope it is not too serious and she will be ok.

Sorry to read about the accidential shooting at the gun show.  Sounds like those that were hit by the birdshot will be ok.  I would have expected those coming to a gun show to know how to handle firearms.  Perhaps a false assuption on my part.  At least that was apparently not the case with the guy with the shotgun.  What a deal!  Bang Head

Laz57- like the picture taken at York.  Nice to be able to put faces with some of the members I see on the Coffee Pot.  Thanks for sharing it.  Thumbs Up

Kev - glad to see you and your friend where able to get some work done on that layout extnsion.  Looks like you have a nice space to work on it. Thumbs Up

dbaker48 - like the photos of your fleet of piggy back vans.  It is fun to watch long trains going around the layout.  For me it is long slow moving coal drags.  Like the moose head too.  Wink  Thanks for sharing.

I've worn a beard/goatee for many many years. The other day at the dinner table my daughter shared that she thought I would look, well younger, if I shaved off my goatee.  My wife nodded and agreed saying she thought so too.  Well, that was all it took I guess.  Now I am going to have to get another photo taken for my avatar. Smile, Wink & Grin

Well guys I need to get busy.  Have a good day!  Bo  Smile

Good morning all,

V8, three simi truck loads of ammo!  Wow, that's a lot of rounds.  The country seems to be awash in guns.  Do I feel safer?  I don't think so.  When I was growing up the only guns I heard of was a pistol one guy in the neighborhood had, we had a single barrel, single shot shot gun and I used an M1 carbine in the National Guard.  Those are about the only guns I remember.  Now there is enough for every man woman and child in the country.  I have no beef with legitimate gun owners but hope things calm down.

D.Baker, nice moose head or whatever that thing is.  However, layout is beautiful.  I think I have one or two of those Lionel piggyback cars with the trailers.  They are what some people call the skeleton cars because they don't have a full platform.  They are a little smaller than scale but look good when run as a unit train.  The other ones I have are the pup trailers and flatcars from MTH.  they are scale.

I finally undecorated the Christmas tree yesterday and made a final run with my old 224 prewar engine and passenger train under the tree.  The engine decided to freeze up, but not completely.  I searched but cannot find anything that might have been picked up that is creating the bind.  Have already spent a bundle on this train but would like to get it fixed if I can find a good Lionel repair man that won't take me to the cleaners.

I think my swimming pool filter needs new elements.  It seems to be recirculating dirt and not trapping things.

Happy birthday to the new baby!

The wife of a church friend is still in a nursing home.  He is looking for a permanent nursing facaility.  Does not sound good.  Maybe we can go see her today.

Laz, thanks for the York photo.  Guess the Chief did not make that one.

Have a good one,

Ray

Jon, if you are going to York, let me know soon.  I will have the Rec Day Parade changed to the next Sat. so I can attend.  No joke.  Maybe we can drag Buckeye and Shake and Bake east too.

Frank -- we need to get back home and look at the master calendar before I can give you a firm answer but now that the boss is retired we have the ability to travel.  We have one more week here before returning home so stay tuned Coffee

We are currently in Phoenix at my wife's sisters home and having a great time!  We've never been able to spend any time away here in the winter before now so this is a real treat.  What a beautiful area this is, we have no desire to move here but I think two weeks will work very well for us.

The temp is only going up to 73 today Laugh  Would like to find a train store tomorrow, anyone?

Jon, If you haven't already been there try to get over to McCormack RR Park. They just built a new building in the past year or two and have made some really great progress on the layouts. To much junk food over the past few weeks so it is time to get back on the low/no salt regimen. Looked like I had little to no ankles from water retention and that ain't good for the ticker.

Jeffery, Prayers for your mother. I hope it is just a bump in the road. Angel

When Mark was here yesterday he told me that his brother Blaze who is also a friend of mine has stage 1 colon cancer. He is 58 and had never had a colonoscopy even though we have had the talk many times over the past 20 years when all of us get together up north about how it is cheap insurance. He still just never would do it. Please Pray for Blaze. They say he should be okay, he is doing chemotherapy and radiation to reduce the size of it before they go in to remove it.

Bo, good move I also have a fire extinguisher in the train room

Harold, I always had one in my old cars too.

Bob, I hope you get some sleep, you got plenty to do. Zzz

RT,SPF Yes

The wind had gone and the temps are now 16 degrees. Everything is heading to SJ and points east.

Going grocery shopping when the wife gets out of bed but not much on the plate for today.

Enjoy.

Good morning. It's 34° with 100% humidity and patchy fog. It'll be cloudy with a high of 65°.

Got some sleep last night. After the weeks of wind and rain and things crashing around it's too darn quiet.

Nothing planned for today. Looks like another movie watching day. If I feel like it later I MIGHT work on the grain elevator.

Jeffrey - good to hear the power is back up and nice to see the other side of the trailer for once! Hoping to acquire something like that when I am out on my own again. For various reasons it seems I'm happiest if my residence either has wheels or had them at some time in the past.

Before I got this trailer I lived in a 1971 Dodge Pace Arrow 20' motor home that I bought for $1 in 1982.

Good Morning

Windy is the word for today...west to northwest at upwards of 60 mph...and cccold...

Today we have family coming down a little later to join us for brunch...and a day of R and R...and I'm up at this hour because we are having mighty roaring winds that took a few things out..namely garbage cans/lids, tree limbs and what all else

Konbanwa,

It’s been a typical Sunday for us.  Yesterday, I sanded and conditioned the table I built.  This afternoon, I applied the first coat of stain.  It’s a bit chilly and humid outside so the drying times are slower.  It will definitely need another coat tomorrow.  The wife wanted an ebony stain which is very nice, but seems much harder to keep even.  The new CTT (digital edition) arrived yesterday so I’ll spend some time with that this evening.  Tomorrow is MLK day so I have the day off.

Chief/RT – That is a shame about the gun show.  I’m sure it will fuel the negative reporting on the gun control issue.

John – Congratulations to your mom and niece.  I’m sure that brightened your mom’s day.  We should be here until October 2014.  Of course, the Air Force reserves the right to move us whenever it so pleases. Wink  Are you planning a trip to Japan anytime soon?

SJ – That modular setup is going to be awesome.  Have fun!

Sayonara,

Joe

Mostly just had a quiet day at home today.  I did go out for a new screen protector for my Nexus 7 tablet.  It went on easily, but I'm waiting for the bubbles to clear - it is supposed to clear in 24 hours?  I don't want to mess with it and ruin it though.  Nice chat with the guys tonight.  We had Thai food for dinner - I had Pad Thai with beef, which is great.  We watched DREDD tonight on bluray and it was terrific - just like the comics!  It's very bloody, so beware.  The old Stallone version was fun for me, but this is the actual comic book come to life, so it was a real thrill.  I think that Fifedog said it very well, and Bo too.  This is our clubhouse.  I'll visit with people wherever they settle, but this is the place I come for trains.  I visit with a few people on FB who are on the Lionel page etc, but it just doesn't have that fellowship I find here.  What a great place full of all you great guys - thanks for letting me hang out with you all.  Tardis - launch!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hello all

Back at work for a few. The weather is great and we are using the high frequency receiver right now @ 691 GHz (for those who don't speak in frequency space, that's a lot:)

Came up on Wednesday to find 4 engineers/office/computer types @ the siteSurprise They were installing the two higher frequency receivers for the season. Was graced w/ a fifth the next day. Can be difficult to sleep during the day at these times. It seems that if you don't work up here, you just don't think about being quiet. When they were leaving on Thursday one of the guys was hauling out his empties from his room. It seems after discovering that someone had drank his one beer he left up here for over two months he decided to keep his 12 pack in his bedroom. Sounded like he was carrying out a high school chemistry setBang Head Managed to get some sleep Friday and Saturday after things quieted back down (i.e. , they all left).

Don - that is one funny looking moose head

Jeffrey - good to hear the power is back up and nice to see the other side of the trailer for once! Hoping to acquire something like that when I am out on my own again. For various reasons it seems I'm happiest if my residence either has wheels or had them at some time in the past.

Dennis - sounds like you did good w/ your little Honda.

Got quite a few projects to work on in my spare time this week. In addition to some voltage regulators and transistors that I need to install, I have 3 transformers to put new power cords on. Plus a whole pile of Marx switches to play w/ at some point. Since I don't have a layout to put them on right now, that can wait a bit. Hopefully the 'new' bike will get it's last coats of paint and get assembled. Hope to ride it around the carousel before I leave. Will be sure to post some video if I do.

Found a nice Marx highway crossing on the bay. Like the looks of this one vs the PW Lionel ones. Will hopefully eventually end up on a layout, but will have a somewhat different purpose initially.

Changed the oil on the hardtop last Tuesday. After the push rod and oil cooler seals were replaced w/ viton ones, she doesn't leak a drop of engine oil. Now to figure out where the drips from the powerglide are coming from.

Good Evening All,

Nice day today, got up to 59.  High tomorrow is suppose to be 36.  Finished taking down outside Christmas decorations also.  My big purchase today for the train room was not, well very railroad like, but something I thought I should have on hand.  Yes, a ...

With some of the stories I've heard/read about  I figured it would be best to have an extinguisher close at hand in the event of a fire.  It may be a little over kill and I hope it is never needed.

Well I got the call for supper. Kinda late tonight.  I'm hungry!

John, I think pretty much the same way about trying to get as much life out of a car as I can.  The most I have ever got though was 204,000 miles.

Hope everybody had a good day!  Bo  Smile

Good Evening:

Still no luck with Yahoo Messenger on this computer.

After dinner my wife was not feeling well and she asked me to go to Target and buy storage bins on sale. It is a few stores away from Dick's Sporting Goods, so I just had to check out the fishing department. Lucky for me they were not stocked up yet. Laugh

SJ: Doray said that YOU can have all of the Lemon Ice Cream that you want!

RT: With this gun control push, of all times for someone to do something stupid!

DougDG: That has to be one of the dumbest moves ever. I really feel sorry for this girl. If anyone the school administrators should be held responsible for stupidity.

Kev: The B-J Auction brings some unreal prices. I think the buyers are some kind of look how much I paid for this and I can afford it kick.

Bo: Great thinking, a fire extiguisher. Smart move. I hope that it is not needed.

LV: My 20 year old son is still driving the 1984 Ford F150 4x4 that I bought new. It has over 300,000 miles on it. The engine was rebuilt @ 198,000 miles. It spun a bearing after the plastic timing gear self destructed.

Ryan, congrats on the trial run. I wish that I could join you for a beer to celebrate.

Rich: How was the Fire Company dinner? Are you up yet?

Don't sweat the small stuff. Worry about what is really important.

BREAKING NEWS: My neice Jocylene just had a baby girl. Her name is Ava Marie. Now my Mom is a Great Grandmother.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need!

Probably should post this on SPF, but (1) the audience may not appreciate it, and (2) I wont be awake that long.

I wanted to post pictures of 3 items for the past month, but havn't taken the time to do it.  I have 2 availalbe and will do them now.

FIRST.... Everyone has been giving Doug M a bad time about his his elephant(s), I think this is worse.

I received a Moose Head for Christmas for my son, with direction that it was intended for the "Train Room!", my wife agreed that was the perfect place for it.  (I lost the battle that there wasn't enough room, and suggested if it was so !@#$ important, it should be in our bedroom.  I lost the battle)

Wanted to also share a "Fleet" of Piggy Back vans I recently acquired.  If I add the other ones I have it makes a train about 30' feet long.  It is so awesome to watch the train run with all those cars.  I could sit and watch it for hours!!

Got to go,  Next 6 days have to be in at 5am.

"Stupid is as STUPID does."  Carrying a loaded shotgun in a case.  It got stuck in the case.  He jerked it out and it went off.

Went to Todd's Train Depot.  Fixed issues with one of the new NS diesels.  Someone had been inside the shell and "tinkered" with it.  Runs great now and smoke up a storm on high [since I repacked the smoke unit].

Off to the lake house for a few.

Good evening every one.......  I just couldn't stay off the net for 4 days.  as far as my "vacation", the cell being turned off has been peace in itself (my company as well as the house is all cellular, except the FAX line)

I didn't really go any where, but did, at my own leisure get all the ceilings in the house painted. Never realized how bad they were, and I don't smoke in the house. Looks like a brand new house, now onto the walls and trim.

I also got the snow stoppers installed on the roof today. We have a metal roof on the house and been meaning to get them installed. the snow would just come crashing off there, down onto the porch roof.  one more thing DONE  took me a minute to get my "Roofer's Feet" on.

did a "mock run on the layout and a MPC lionel ran FLAWLESSLY (welll, no derails anyway)) so that was good

I see there was some flare ups on here while I was out, Just skimmed the last 20 pages or so. I don't need any more drama this week any way

KEV, gotta sweet talk the wife to take me to get another 6er of Beer  once again i thought I had more.........

she's allready P & M ing about me drinking all evening  ohh well

Glad to see all is well, and evey one has let by gons be by gons....

Have a great weekend every one

Ryan

PS thanks for letting me vent about my "situation" last week..    I was tired and MAD when I posted.  The internet has allowed us to to that.   The old way was write a letter, and by the time the mail went, you tossed it..... instead of actually mailing it...

anyway,   Thanks guys    Ryan
