Hi guys,

We had a great weekend running trains at the train show in Plano. The revamped 8x20 layout looked great and we got a lot of complements. We had lots of kids running trains with the Legacy remotes and a lot of appreciative parents since we let the kids run the trains. We had my Vision Line Hudson, TMCC NYC L3a, and my Lionmaster Challenger running. We also had a Lionel UP Big Boy, SP Cab Forward, Frisco F7s, and T&P 0-6-0 locos running over the 2 days. And - there was a TMCC crane car on a siding being demonstrated regularly.Great fun was had by all.

Jeffrey - so sorry about your mother Angel

Have a great evening all! And Fife - how about them Ravens eh?

Regards, Roy

Laptop say's 13 degrees, expecting 4 overnight.

As expected it was a quiet day. Banilla will be ready for the crew. My thoughts on leaving to pot. How does running away solve the problem? The bad guys win....S.J.

One more thing I didn't mention before. Between the Lionel 885 and 1645. The whistle is much louder on the faster 1645.

Kev - A. C. Gilbert purchased The American Flyer Manufacturing Company in February 1938 from W. O. Coleman, who in 1907 began producing trains with William Hafner. From the beginning Flyer sold 0 gauge. Then Gilbert began phasing in a new line of trains. He wanted them to be scaled, so in 1939, he produce some 0 gauge 3/16" scaled trains. By 1940 only 3/16" scaled trains were sold. But that was short lived because of WWII. The 1942 catalog was the same as in 1941, selling of the rest of their stock.

After WWII Gilbert keep the same scale but now it would run on two rails.

So to answer your question, traditional 0 gauge sets were sold until 1939 while scaled (3/16") 0 gauge sets were sold through 1942.

So much for the history lesson.

Ohayƍ,

The family and I enjoyed the holiday yesterday. I didn’t have to work so I was able to go for a long run without worrying about getting to work on time. I ran 15 miles at a slow pace, but I was able to finish without any issues so I am pleased. It was windy which made the run more difficult. I smoked some port tenderloin for dinner last night and it was great. It may have been one of the best meals I ever smoked and the wife was greatly pleased. Yes, it was about 30 degrees outside but that didn’t stop me. I also read a few pages of the latest CTT and so far it is another great issue.

Work is progressing nicely this morning. I have no other big plans for the day.

Charlie/SJ – Thanks for posting another fantastic video. What kind of transfer station was that on the layout? How does it work with the FasTrack? SJ’s latest acquisition looks cool.

John – If you change your mind about visiting Japan let me know. I’ll introduce you to some fine cuisine.

Kev – I’m looking forward to seeing the extension progress.

Sayonara,

Joe

KEV, looking REAL nice.  You gonna break your current loop(s) and extend them, or add additional ones?

What started as a slow day went buck crazy with customers.  (and since the "episode" I had the fine pleasure of being outside in 20 deg weather all day unloading customers)   sooooo needless to say I am chilled to the bone.

The wife wanted to goto Home Depot to get the paint for the walls (which I thought was all decided on) after over a hour him hauling around the paint isle, she decides she's not ready to make a decision tonight Bang Head  SoapBox

keep in mind, she complained all day Sunday due to me getting that other six pack, that I apparently didnt really need at 11pm on Sat night.  And apparently, I was running a little on the slow side all day sunday.

So, the balls in her court.  Can't paint when theres no paint.......

Later Guys

Ryan, thanks,

Glad to hear things are turning around for you at the yard. You need to work on your wife, I send mine to get me beer Beer and with her money.Stick out tongue I am always shocked at how many guys are victims of their wife's, just one more thing I don't get.  That may have something to do about why I have had three. Whistling

The plan is to extend the main outer loop around the whole table. I do intend to add additional loops but don't know what or how yet. I want a elevated part too.

Very sad to see that JimmyT / GreenProbe decided to go hand and hand overboard with Brent. Tongue Tied Hope they get it figured out and return. They remind me of my son. Sad Jim is a good guy and has had some tough times with little or no work to suffer through. Kind of like the 80s for me and a lot of others. I hope he finds some middle ground as he ages and can focus on tomorrow and not blaiming someone else for things that none of us can control but have to overcome.

That is it for today.

Jeffery, Prayers, and for all others to, including "our" country on this day of hope for our future. Angel

Jon, If you haven't already been there try to get over to McCormack RR Park. They just built a new building in the past year or two and have made some really great progress on the layouts. Thumbs UpThumbs Up If you do make it over and run into a gentleman by the name of Dallas Dixon tell him I said hi. As one of the "founding fathers" of the San Diego 3Railers he is Charter Member #1 .  http://pandprr.com/newpandprr/Home.html

Doug -- THANK YOU for that recommendation, the McCormack RR Park was FANTASTICThumbs Up  The whole area is so well done and family friendly plus the new building with all 3 scales is simply outstanding.  Of course we enjoyed the O gauge area the most, then the N gauge followed by the HO area.  The HO guys are really way behind the other two but in a few more years the whole building will be amazing.  I took lots of pics and will post a few once we get home.  We also thoroughly enjoyed touring the Pullman car that was used by Presidents Hoover, FDR, Truman and Ike, very cool.  Any of you train nuts who are in this area must stop at the McCormack RR Park, well worth driving out of your way to see.  Doug  -- I did ask about your friend, he worked yesterday but not today, darn it.

Hope to take in Rocky Mtn. Express at the iMax in downtown Phoenix on Wed., someday I really want to ride that train.

Talked to oldest son this morning in Cedar Falls, IA, wind chill was -34.  Our temps  =  75 today, 76 tomorrow, 77 Wed., boringly wonderful Cool  I never knew it could be like this in January!

AF53

Good afternoon all!

Off today for the holiday so I tackled some minor layout projects. I put down the white lines on my road, soldered a feeder wire to my Wide Gauge track for next Christmas, (I alligator clipped it this year) and just did some Engine testing for my O gauge. (Don't forget, Flyer made O gauge also!)

Ray,Yes and I have a nice AF "O" set from somewhere betweem 1934 & 1936 Great train but it will not run with my CW80? no idea why but I have given up on the CW80 and now use ZW and LW for power. Now long did they make O sets?

Which maybe someone can offer some suggestions. I have a few Lionel loco's. One is a steamer #885 that came with my Sante Fe Steam Freight set and it's only a few years old with little run time. It's greased well and runs SLOOOOW. Compared to another one from a Pennsylvania Flyer set. That loco is 1645 and runs fast. I'm using a CW-80 transformer. Any help?

Kev - You are fortunate to have that much space. My room is 9'x10' and it has my computer hutch in it. I do have a closet to my self in the room for storage and my layout is 8' x 5 1/2'. And with two computer chairs HudsonJohn and I can have a nice time just watching the action. It suits me fine, as others might not have this much, but someday.......

Yes you are sooooo right, I am fortunate to have so much room. Part of "My plan" when we build this house 7 years ago was a full basement and if not the biggest part of that was I knew I wanted a layout after two houses and 31 years with no basement when we lived along the Dupage river in Plainfield. I just never told the wife that was why I wanted a full basement. Whistling I just figured I would fill it with trains before she filled it with junk. Wink Laugh

Very cold, still below 10 degrees but the heatilator fireplace is doing a good job, The HVAC has only kicked in once all day. The drawback is the basement and back rooms are cool. I did go outside and load up the Gator with a full load of wood and stacked it on the front porch. I also put out some deer corn for those guys. The cat's heated water thingy took a dump. Frozen solid. Sad

Good afternoon,

Cold is the word. Still showing 9 degrees per my truck.

I was putzing around on my 10' x 6' addition today for about ½ hour to get a feel for it. This will make the back stretch 26’ long. I need to add a light or 2 overhead and add an elect drop to feed power to the new side before I put it on it’s legs. Maybe tomorrow I will paint some legs, around the face of the table and the transformer shelf.

Later.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISE with temps in the teens.  Jeffrey, my condolences on the loss of your mom.  I have walked in your shoes twice.  Take comfort in the fact you were a caring son and that you did all you could.  Thoughts and prayers are going out for you and your family.  I will blow the horn once loud and long when next I run trains.

Finished up the Rome series last night.  Been running errands today, some successful, some not so.  Going to a movie later on today.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

It's a deal!  Between Thomas and Harry, Hornby is quite complete. Too bad they don't offer anything a bit larger.

Good morning everyone!

Jeffrey, the loss of one's Mother is a difficult thing to have to bear.  I feel for you and your family during this difficult time.

Worked on my website yesterday.  My loving and supportive wife is off  work for the holiday so we're just going to take it easy and enjoy the time together.  Back to work on the railroad tomorrow.

Have a great day!  Bo  Smile

cnw1995 - Well, then, let's keep each other informed of our purchases.  It would seem that HORNBY has the Potter market covered, but we don't model in OO.  Trying to piece together structures will be a challenge.  LEGO is an option, but I don't want to pay big $$ for something I'm gonna paint over.

Lehigh Valley, I'm almost done with reading the last (9th) volume of the Harry Potter series to my youngest before bed every night. It's taken a few years. Like Jeffrey, I haven't seen the movie either.

Jeff, cnw1995, the last movie is probably the best of the series. You'll be in for something.

cnw1995 - My middle princess (20 year old) is a huge Potter fan.  During this Christmas break from college, Wifey could often be heard saying "you're watching Harry Potter again...?", seeing her and me lounging on the couch watching movie after movie on DISH.  Princess wants a Hogwart's Express when she moves out on her own.

Jeffrey, my condolences on your mom's passing .Praying for peace for the family as you go through her things.

7 degrees here - probably 14 below with the breeze. But Chicago is quiet and it hasn't been this brisk in 2 years.
Lehigh Valley,
I'm almost done with reading the last (9th) volume of the Harry Potter series to my youngest before bed every night. It's taken a few years. Like Jeffrey, I haven't seen the movie either.
SJ, congrats on the Hornby. I'm jealous.
Kev, prayers for his treatment and prognosis

After a busy weekend, I still found some time to work on some layout issues - reconfiguring the yard track around Llaniog, and setting up the 'skywriting' - photos to follow on the Ivor progress thread.
