No hunting today.  May vacume leaves with John Deere bagger.

Good morning. It's 42° with 100% humidity. There's a north wind coming off thee lake. That makes it feel even cooler. The high will be 72°.

No plans for today other than to rest and give my wounds a chance to heal. Hopefully everyone else, my father especially gives me the chance to do that.

Today is a Laz-y day, I plan to goof off. Save some room on your credit card for higher gas prices. We are going to be pushed toward electric cars whether we like it or not. Chuck glad to see your cow found it's way  home so you can have your Cheerios. . . . S.J.

Good Morning!

Happy Birthday Brutus!!Cake

Great Video Doug!! Bow

Had an interesting experience over a car battery yesterday.......

- Saturday, Kay is working and van would not start, she got a jump from a friend then called me and let me know of the problem.  I told her to go to Firestone and just get a new battery.  Firestone checked battery and said it was GOOD, checked rest of electrical system, and found no problem. (Cost $24, IF problem persisted would retest for free.)

- Sunday, Van intermittent on starting.  Told Kay would take to OUR mechanic on Tuesday, (my day off.)

- Tuesday, Mechanic says definetly battery.

- Go back to Firestone, told them I wanted $25 credit toward new battery.  They said will recheck, still checked good.  Offered $25 credit for customer service, but said needed a new starter.  Asked for battery cost.  Replacement $134.99, less $25 discount = $134.95 !!???  How did that work?  After discount the installation cost and Sales Tax, puts it back to $134.95 Bang Head

- Declined the savings, went buy Pep Boys auto on the way home for a free battery check.  The tech checks the CCA rating of the battery is 850, battery fails.  Check paperwork from Firestone, both CCA Ratings are entered as 650.  (No wonder it passes!)  The battery had some dirt/grease on the top of the label, which Pep Boys had wiped off with their finger.  Called Firestone back, told them of the results, said they would give me another $20 off new battery.  Hmmmmm

- Checked Costco, new battery with correct CCA rating $89.  I needed to install.  Needless to say very disappointed in Fstone for lack of thoroughness!

SoapBox

Off to put carpet down on Bob's layout, Tongue Tied  Be glad to get it done.

Take care ALL,

I guess Firestone was fresh out of 'label wiping fingers'. That's like a really common thing I hear all the time but every time I check Wal-Mart doesn't have any 'round tu-its'.

LMAO......THAT'S Government involvement at its worst......

Well, in DougM's defense and in support of his argument about "most screwed-up-ed-ness,"  I believe Illinois is the only state in the Union where the politicos passed a law stating the citizens/voters are not permitted to even propose a ballot question/initiative calling for term limitations.

If we all checked out in our own states the average length of service of the State Representatives, State Senators, and the U.S. Senators, we would all come to realize once one is elected to office that money, job security, and re-election become the top priorities for that person, not my interests nor the best interests of the rest.  Pretty blatant, don't you think?  Take the career out of politics and then stuff will get done, the right way.

By the way, another from the Kennedy clan ran of whom I never heard won huge last night.  Who says folks don't vote a name or a straight ticket?  Bang Head

Good Grief!!! From Pre-Athena Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

Here we go again.  With an earthquake, hurricane Sandy, and now this Nor'easter Athena hitting all within 3 weeks, I think SOMEONE above is telling us something.  After reading the posts from or about Spanky, AF Ray, HudsonJohn, Rich, and DougM's Mom, I feel guilty for having dodged so many bullets here.  Although I live only about a mile from the coast and most of the power lines in these parts are exposed to falling trees and limbs, I can only conclude that sheer luck and eerie coincidnece has kept me and my family safe and comfortable.

Last night the temperatures dropped to 28 degrees by midnight.  Fortunately the forecast for snow over the next 24 hours is still iffy for me, probably just 1-2 inches of rain; but just 45 miles West of me they will be getting 3' to 6" of the white stuff.  The winds will be gusting to 50 mph later today and into the night.  But the flooding risk from the high tides and storm surge will be much less this time around.  Youse guyz in NJ and PA will not ne so lucky.

The front of my house faces the winds from the East/Southeast.  The son left the garage door open this morning, and now the garage floor is covered with leaves.  Can't just blow them back out because the winds blowing into the garage are just too strong.  Had to chase down the garbage cans and lids earlier (trash and recycling day) and bring wifey's potted mums in from the elements, yet again.  Minor nuisances as long as the shingles on the roof stay put.

Spanky......thank you for taking time (you don't have) for updating us on your situation, especially on Tyler's valiantly fighting back from the events of the past 10 days.  I think you know how hard we are all pulling for him and for your family, thinking of him every time we sign in here or say prayers.  Hang tough, buddy.  Tyler is.  Thumbs UpAngel

BOC........sorry to hear about the snafu with your ankle but I am glad your current round of treatments are proceeding on schedule.  Lucky thing you just twisted your ankle and did not injure your pretty mug or teeth when you went down. WhistlingThumbs UpAngel

HudsonJohn......stay safe and hang in there.  You will survive this, and in one piece. Angel  Just think of all of the money you are saving on electric and heating costs. WhistlingBang Head

Brutus.....hope Char is continiuing to recover from her bout with the crud.  How is Chewy coming along?  And.......BeerThumbs UpHappy B-DayCakeGiftDrinks.  "HOW OLD ARE YOU NOW?" Whistling

DonnyB.....it never ceases to amaze me that these automobile service facilities check out batteries and tell you everything is up to snuff without checking the voltage and CCA under load, then send you on your way.

Chief......I don't ever seem to have the POT issues the rest of you have and I don't have a clue why.  Maybe it is because I am running older IE and Windows software.  See no reason to change until what I have either lacks the functionality I need or is no longer supported by Microsoft.  My wife and I ARE going to have to upgrade MS Excel and/or MS Office because our older version does not support Excel stuff we receive from folks with newer versions.

Later, gang.  Stay safe.

Spanky prayers still going out for Tyler.

Don don't get me started with Firestone they will never see my business again there mechanics I would bet get a commission on the more they can. I needed a water pump by time they got done was almost $1000 they said I needed a new serpentine belt and I needed to replace the belt ( It was down toward the bottom left side ( don't have truck anymore can't think what it was) so they charged me the full labor for replacing it then charged me the full labor to replace serpentine belt ( which they had to take off and put back on to get to other) then charge me full labor to replace water pump which they had to remove both belts to do so they charged me 2 times for labor that they already did with water pump when I realize and went back all they said thats how its done I said and you will never see me in your store and I will warn as many as I can to avoid rip off Firestone.

Thats why I started going to gm dealer and oh by the way water pump went again on truck wouldn't you know it was like 3 weeks after warranty ran out I realized what was going on

Good morning all,

Had a shock this morning when I learned that my oldest friend's wife died yesterday.  She had just had surgery for lung cancer a few days ago and was home and doing OK.  She developed a blood clot that went to her heart and died after being taken back to the hospital.  No funeral was her wishes.  I respect her wishes but as for myself, I would like to at least leave a grease spot or something behind so somebody would know had been there.  Would also appreciate a few kind words said too.

Brutus, Happy birthdayHappy B-Day

D.Baker, couldn't believe that crap on our ballot about condoms for porn stars.  That's disgusting and has no place on the ballot.  Who's going to inforce it anyway?

At least Florida didn't hold up the election last night.

Here's a report on cooking the arrow tooth flounder from yesterday. It was edible but nothing to write home about.  Fried some and cooked some more in microwave.  Frying was best.  Microwave turned into mush.  Will never buy that again.

D. Baker, got sticker shock when I heard about your battery.  Haven't had to buy one myself for a long time.

later,

Ray

RT, I have found warrenties are an absolute JOKE. especially those "extended warrenties". I have never bought into any of that crap, but my wife learned the hard way about them.  she had a laptop with an Extended warrenty.  well the key board crapped out, and guess what.......  not covered......  so gues what she dosent buy any more........  "extended Warrenties"

and BTW, those one year full replacement warrenties they try to sell you on tools at lowes and homedepot?  You so much as use that tool for one minute outside you personal residence, its considered "commercial use" and NOT COVERED!!
