V8, I hear ya on the "having stuff stored" and not liking it.  I am so far into "it", (been buying in 4 scales for 20 years) i just dont have room for all this crap, more less to set it up.  it drives me nuts.

Some times I think  about just sending it all to auction and starting over with just one scale, which, unfortianatly, would be HO

Good morning all,

D.Baker and V8 Dennis, looks like none of the three of us went to Cal Stewart.  I haven't talked to the one friend I know who did but assume that it was a well attended show since the hotels sold out.

Chief, you might understand this.  The other day I had a hankering for some down home soul food so I bought a bunch of collard greens at the market and thought I would give them a try.  We were raised eating those among other things and we grew them in our vegetable garden.  However, my mother or grandmother always did the cooking of them.  I should have paid more attention.  I really didn't remember how they did it.  I looked at a few receipes on the internet and saw where most of the Southern style ones took a long time cooking and a lot of seasoning so I picked out one I will call a Yankee method which was a lot faster since I just had a small amount to cook anyway.  I cooked them in a frying pan with a little oil and some garlic.  They tasted OK but were nothing like what I remember as a kid.  Have to call my sister next time.  My wife who is from New Hampshire said, are we going to be cooking this stuff all the time now?  If it's not baked, boiled or broiled, she won't mess with it.  Anyway, got it out of my system for a while.

Jon, that's a nice cozy looking train room.  Reminds me of the little stove we have in our family room.  It's really just for looks (not hooked up).but it is a real cast iron coal burning stove that the prior owner converted to gas.  My dad used to call those stoves laundry heaters for some reason?

V8, I do follow politics and try to keep myself informed but don't discuss it here.  I think we are all in overload now with the election so close.  I don't answer the phone anymore but let the machine get it until after Tuesday.  I saw a couple of photos concerning Cal Stewart.  Google on Cal Stewart Train Meet and one thing that will come up is a blog or something by a local reporter in the Ontario area who posted a shot of the trading hall and some display layout pictures.

DIL had a birthday on Nov. 1st and we wanted to take her out for dinner.  She is so busy she can't go until Nov. 18th.  That's OK with us but I am never to busy for my birthday.

later,

Ray

Mornin All.

Got things cookin in the kitchen for the better-half's bunco gang tonite, pulled pork/ baked beans/ tater salad/ coleslaw and she is picking up a cheesecake at Costco. Gonna be busy most of the day but I will be vacating to go see Hotel Transylvania during the bunco bash. Whistling

Jon, How about shortening and lowering the bar to incorporate into the layout as a loading area, got to have someplace to load the vino & beer onto the flats and gons for delivery to your guests. BeerYesSmile

Kev, What died on the airplane accessory, the gears or the motor ? If it is the motor I wonder if a good electronics repair shop/dealer/distributor would have something comparable.

Didn't make it to Cal Stewart or the Expo at Del Mar this past weekend but do plan on going to the WGH event in Feb when they again make their way to Del Mar.

Back to da kitchen, will be back later.

DougDG, unfortunately the motor seems to be the problem but the gears and motor are enclosed in one plastic casing and you can't replace one without the other. Black Eye

Jon, That is a beautiful layout and room there.   Yes I wish I had talent for scenery like you have.

Jon, go for it.

Ray, boiled with fat back or ham hock. If none of these, bacon grease. Quick version is a pressure cooker. Also, get cabbage collards (heading version).

In Co. Commissioners. This tells you how boring.

Frank -- it was good to chat with you this morning, it's been a long time, too long.  Thank you so very much for the pics of your lift bridges and your progress in the "box", you are going to have an amazing layout one day.  Just take your time, honestly  --  it will never be done and that's part of the fun and challenge.

Kev -- my wonderful wife, Sharyl, does the scenery and she just loves it.  I do all the bench work, track planning, laying of the track, wiring, accessories placed and then I just get out of the way and go for a VERY long motorcycle ride or to the Y Thumbs Up

Doug --  I like your idea of not using that whole wall and saving the bar Beer, a staging area would be wonderful.  I rarely use the old iMac but I need it for the printer, they both could live in the furnace room as I can print from my lap top anywhere in the house if the old iMac and printer are on.  More importantly, I have over 10,000 images on that old computer ... they are backed up, whew!

I truly enjoy spring, summer and fall -- especially when I'm on the bike in the western states and I always feel kinda sad when I winterize the bike and hook up the battery tender, which I did last Friday.  However, playing with toy trains comes in a close 2nd especially as I move into the twilight of my life.

Evening all been a long past 3 days did 12 hrs both sat and Sunday ( well 13 actually as get two 1/2 hr beaks one at 4 hrs and another at 8 hrs so I'm there over 13 hrs) and them my 8 hr shift today. Anyway have read here and there over the past few days but not all so not sure what I read and what I didn't or what I forgot lol.

Jon Great layout there. I agree with chief go for it.

Still have a couple of things to do befor I start mine as need to build my work bench which will be 6' long in a area of the room that I can't use for other than storage and display shelves which already have been built and trains put on them. the area is about 3' deep and 16 feet long with a entrance door to the house from the den about at the 12' area and this is the main entrance to the house as there is a outside door there in the den at the 3' area that I mentioned above and then from there to the other wall I have about 8' deep and 16' long to build in so will have to build in some emergency entrances in case of derailments or brake downs.

Talk to you all later will probably catch a ride on the tardis tonight

Good evening.

It's a pleasant 70 here right now. Today the parish got started on blacktopping the road out here. It's about time! They've only been promising to do it for the last thirty some odd years!

I feel much better than I did this morning and my balance is somewhat better. My knees are still a bit shaky though. I should be feeling good enough in the morning to go vote. It's looking like we have a fair chance of rain tonight. I just hope we don't get any bad storms.

No layout work today.

Dinner Break,

Storm restoration is going well. It looks like another week of these long hours. We have numerous vehicles that were damaged by flooding, falling trees besides mechanical, hydraulic, etc break downs. Loaned our 2009 Ford F350 4x4 Rack Truck that we also use for plowing to the store room and they put diesel in the gasoline powered truck. They also had it in water. Got a call that it is running rough and knocking.  Angry

Improvement in the condition of the injured lineman. He is coherent now.

Still no power home or at Mom's house. She is having a good time with the neighbors BBQing and just hanging out.

Brutus, well wishes to Char and the family.

BOC: Get well soon.

Jeffrey: Hang in there.

Kev: Good luck with the family matter. Happy Birthday to Madyson.

Chief: Thanks for the well wishes. We definitely do not need this storm.

Doug M. Thanks for the well wishes. It has been a long hard road.

V8: Want to trade weather?

SJ, Brutus, RT, Charlie and the rest of the Tardis Crew: I hope to be on soon. Maybe next week.

Laz: 25 almost 24 days to go.

Today it was 36 when I left the house and it hit around 49. Going down to 28 tonight. Also we had an earthquake in North Jersey. We need a break.

Stay Safe.

Chief, thanks for the collard tip.  I thought boiling was the better way to go and I'm sure we used to use fat back.  Didn't know what bacon was until I was grown.  I doubt they have the heading collards here.  Barely see the other kind except frozen.

Hudson John, U the man! Yes Angel

 Hi, from Drama Central.

The son called me tonight, I guess the relief donation in his daughters name took it over the top, Guess what, he was mad about it??? I told him why I did it and that it should and can be a good opportunity for him to explain something to her about helping instead of getting, After a long talk ( and he only used the F word twice, I think a record for him ) I think things may be better, Only time will tell. At least we both vented some things that needed venting. So he was burning my ear while the daughter was on the phone with the wife burning her ear off. Surprise

The daughter has sent us 7 e-mails of all of the tex messages between her and her MIL. Issue central.  Laugh

Hi guys. Still no power. Still haven't caught up on the posts. Thank God for cell phones. I'll tell you what. I miss the computer. Tv i can do without for the most part. Hudsonjohn will sure have a great time at his retirement party! The only bad thing about it, if it's up to my sister it'll be next summer. (John you know what I mean). 47 in the house this morning while getting ready for work and tomorrow it'll be colder. I found out at work today a co-workers sister lost her house because of Sandy. Makes one feel lucky. Later.

Town Board over.  Actually record time.  Stayed around and talked to the local newspaper's [not the N&O] editor and publisher.  She is really a great person.

Going hunting tomorrow.  Not leaving until daylight.  Hunt through lunch, take a break and hunt till dark.  Rut has started so, deer will move druing the day.  Taking a guy about my age.  Has had heart attack and stroke.  They removed part of his skull for 6 months [originally relieved the pressure].  Now it is back on his head.  Has a little slow speach but does good.  Loves guns as good as I do or maybe more.

Howdy guys - prayers for those suffering due to Sandy and for our friends and loved ones.

Well, today I was so tired - couldn't sleep last night for some reason.  We had to move our desks around at work - reorganized.  What a mess.  There was no plan at all - kept checking up on each other to see if people had left your future desk so you could move, while others were checking to see if we moved etc.  People come to work at different time between 6 and 9:30 AM so it was very exciting!

Tightened up the connections on those flex connectors and the leak stopped, so that's a good thing.  I'll check it again in a day or two and make sure it's still dry.  Fedex reports my locomotives might be here tomorrow, hope they come late enough so I can sign for them.

Mike - the TARDIS can go anywhere - turn on your secret beacon ring and we'll come pick you up - need to drop off some lemon icecream for John and his men, too!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Our weather gave us what we expected. Plenty of dull dull dull dull and not much else...tomorrow the sun will show...for a few seconds....

Today was a slooooooooooowwwwww day for me. even my mall walking was slow..instead of my usual trip to Springbank Park it was a trip to the mall and a couple of easy laps around the shops...the chest pains turned out to be something I never heard of.....pulled chest muscles...must have been from lifting a few things into the closet shelves....oh joy....

Anyways...gonna go and see what is up on the forums now...have a good evening!!!

Good Morning From Sandy Jersey,

Weatherman gave us bad news. The Nor'easter coming will bring us 40 mph winds, coastal flooding, rain, snow and a wintery mix. Well it is 26 now and he is calling for a high of 46.

Chief: Good luck hunting. I almost got a doe witth the Company Pickup this morning on the way in. Missed her by about 10 feet. I am sure that your friend enjoys going with you.

Kev: Good luck with your family matters.

AF53, Ray, I was just talking to Doray and Johnny and her had had the wood stove really cranking yesterday. Mom's house was 59 when I left this morning. Her neighbor will fire up the generator later. I like the Ocean Gate power story.

Prayers for Tyler and all in need.

I will be on the road all day.

Enjoy the day,

John

Got the first section of subroadbed cut out yesterday.  Need to finish fitting the second section before cutting same.  Dropped the K-Line front-end loader on the basement floor, hope it still works.

Good morning. It's 48° with 92% humidity. It'll be mostly sunny with a high of 68°.

Cool this morning and somewhat foggy. I feel a lot better than I did yesterday at this time. Good enough in fact that I can go to voting polls in an hour or two and do my duty as a citizen.

I'll need to go to Lowe's to get some inch and a quarter pipe to extend my kitchen drain line. Wouldn't hurt to get some PVC cement too.

No layout work planned for today but you never know.

Don  -- we have similar tastes in bridgesThumbs Up  I had seen an article in CTT about this project and decided to add it to the layout after I had laid down track, fortunately I did it before had done much scenery work.

This is where I would like to expand across the room in front of the gas fireplace, I need to be able to get to that fireplace as that's the basement and it get's a bit chilly in the winter!

This is a view of the long room, the computer table and bar would have to go.

This is view from the fireplace looking west, again--furniture has to go but there would be a nice wide aisle to see both sides.  The only problem would be that I would like to make the tables 40" deep and that's a long reach.

So tempting and I think the boss is in favor of it!

Jon,

Such a great looking room!  Hope you have another location for the bar!  (Imagine the computer desk has another home planned.)  Hate to see you loose that bar, really nice looking!  Wouldn't want to give up the one we have in our train room.

Regarding the bridge, you might want to check availability.  My friend Bob was trying to get one, and barely found it.  I'm sure you could find it on MTH's "find it" feature.

Would the bridge go in front of the gas heater providing access to the extension on the left side of the room, how long is the proposed area?   Sure like the looks of the existing layout!!!!!!

Morning all not a lot going on here today just uploading pics to my shutterfly account. Did 6 new real trains and now in the mist of doing like 270+ to my trains. All takes time.

Relaxing day well kinda need to take back off dryer and clean lint out of back there. normally end up cutting hand a little but it keeps wife quiet for about 6 months.

Need to mail out a train car I sold last night have 2 others to go out if the buyer will pay was quick to ask about combine shipping but haven't gotten payment after gave him a combine shipping cost. Sigh It was like within 5 minutes of the last one ending and I returned reduced shipping within like another 5 minutes. Oh well life goes on.

Hope all have a good day and all those folks up in the northeast get power back soon and the clean-up gets taken care of and those in needs of help get it
