Mornin' All.

Bit of a Pea Souper this morning, the Better-Half out the door with the other hens for some garage sale meandering. Me just sit and relax, listening to my hillbilly music a bit before starting today's Honey-do's. She's hosting their Bunco group on monday so that means turning the house inside out n upside down before I spend Sunday and monday cooking.

Will be interesting to see the fallout after the union/non-union lineman flap in N.J. Seems kind of odd that when so many are w/o power it wouldn't make any difference when folks come quite a distance to help out.

No museum yesterday, spent most of the day runnin' round the county getting some things done.

Oh well, procrastinated long enuff. Time to get busy. Sigh

It seems that some union officials can't see past the rule book. It doesn't matter how far you came or how good you are, if you ain't union you ain't working. QED! Then when the work takes half of eternity they're the first to cry about how nobody would come and help.

Well the nurse showed up today so I don't have to watch over my mother. I instead went to town and my grocery shopping done. Here's a photo I took the last time I was at my parents home. This is in a second story loft in the great room. The monkey's name is King George and he's on his throne. No offense to our friends in the UK.

Morning guys, Slept in, Mischief

 Cloudy and cool here,

Wife and I ran trains last night and something is up on the layout. Had 4 pile ups all at the switches, both Lionel 42" 027 right hand ones, almost like they were flipping by themselves. I tried several different trains and it did not seem to change it. So I ran into the back of the train on the back loop (twice) and off the track on the south switch. (twice) Both very hard places to reach. Bang Head

Prayers for all of those out there on the east coast.  Angel

I hope John is holding up okay.

Also my K-Line Kid flying the airplane quit. I hope it is a wiring thing and not the unit. If it is the unit Guess I will be giving Bob a PM to see if he can look at it. Bang Head

Dougnotagrump - Hillbilly music - I Love It!

I agree on the lineman. Using the Union to stop out of town lineman from coming in makes no sense at all. These Unions only care about themselves, not the people they are supposed to serve.

DougDG......you had a much safer day than I did.  Your wife went out and mine stayed home, conscripted me to help her hang curtains.  Apparently she does not subscribe to my approach of measuring (twice) and then eyeballing.  So I shut up and did it her way. Whistling

Drilled a lot of unnecessary holes.  Hung the hardware, drapes and valences twice. Bang Head Bang Head

Left Bankers. Thumbs Down Angry

Fall Festival and PD Citizens Day was great success.  Lots of hot dogs gone but lots left over.  Think we are going to give out free hot dogs at the Christmas Tree lighting first Monday in Dec.  Freeze buns and hot dogs.

Unions. Laugh Laugh  Actually have their places and then some are over bearing.  NC has a "right to work law".  Why so many Yankee companies are coming South. Whistling

Yeah Pat maybe and then maybe not, it is only the two of us most of the time anymore. I am glad she supports, never questions me and lets me spend whatever I want on the layout and only has a small influence on it, She trust that I know what I am doing, even when I know I don't. Laugh  Beer Drinks Wink When we have pile-ups I blame her and demand some sort of payment. Wink Mischief still seems to work. Angel

We went for a Gator ride out there tonight but WOW getting cold, SJ get the dogs ready for winter!! Surprise

I did take apart the K-Line kid with the plane and got it working, don't ask me how??? but I was surprised at how good it was build, brass gears and bushings, it should run forever.SO I ran it 2 hours to make sure it will be well broken in.

Have a nice Doe and Fawn eating at the corn pan and Sandra is out there talking to them. Laugh

Unions, I have been on both sides, I have also owned a small busness. Those union guys are good to go but as with government they are only as good as their leadership.  Sometimes they shoot themselves in the process. JMHO

U guys have a nice night.

Prayers for all in need, Tyler and DJ, BOC and the rest. Angel

Good Evening From "Sandy Jersey",

We have put over 1 million back on. This is the first that I heard about the Union/Non Union Linemen so it must not be my Company involved. I have had no exposure to news. Whoever sent the Non Union Linemen in the first palce should have known better. Don't go there, for I was IBEW for over 30 years before I went into management and we do have a good Union that works with management.

You would have to see the devastation first hand to believe it. We had a flood come thru our garage on Monday night. We had over 5 foot of water in the yard and around the building. As the water was rising we put as much as we could into the garage. We escaped in a all wheel drive GMC C8500 Box truck with 18 of us in the box. We saved all but 3 vehicles, no one was hurt, the tide receeded and the garage has been cleaned. The office is a mess and remediation starts Monday. We hope to have the garage functioning in a week.

TREES and TRIMMING: YES we have a contractor and we do it ourselves also. PROBLEM: PEOPLE COMPLAIN INCLUDING THE MAYORS AND COUNCIL!!!! Ken, we are taking over the electric  operation of LIPA. Do not expect miracles.

Break is over back to work. I have worked 98 hours since Monday.

John

The train show went well, I didn't buy anything. I did see a couple of Marx sets that were ok but they didn't say Buy Me. So banilla is ready and some Rocky Road waiting for the Tardis crew..S.J.

Brrr! It's a nice 72 here with a pleasant 4 mph SSW breeze and 74% humidity. Looking like a fair chance of rain for the rest of the weekend though.

Today has been a little longer than usual. I've already set my clocks back an hour for DST. Today I took care of a plumbing problem that had been nearly driving me nuts. The drain line from the kitchen sink went to a drainage stack embedded in the wall between the kitchen and bathroom. No matter what I did I couldn't stop the kitchen connection to the stack leaking. Well today I disconnected that line and plugged it off at the stack. I reran the kitchen drain pipe, drilled an inch and a quarter hole in the floor under the cabinet and ran the pipe down through the hole and routed a pipe outside to a patch of grass beside the trailer. It's just clear sink water and there's nothing harmful in it. The only soap I use is completely biodegradable. When I get some more pipe I'll route it out to the magnolia tree in my yard. I did the same thing with an RV I lived in before I bought this trailer. The water from the kitchen and shower supplied water for the garden I had then. The water from my kitchen is much cleaner than that flowing into the ditches from the drain lines of my neighbors washing machines and dish washers. I'm sure the magnolia tree will love having a supply of water. It's dry up here on the hill.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Good night all.

John, you and your workers are the life savers up there now.  Prayers you all stay safe.  Glad to hear no controversy going on up there.  One question.  National Guard and US Army generators?  They were dispersed when we have big storms.

Off to bed.  Set your clocks back.

Sleep tight.

John!  Hang in there man - be careful!  Water and power don't mix!

Today was a blah day.  Char has continued to have this cough and was up a lot last night.  I did the shopping for groceries and also got some supplies for the basement at Home Depot.  I picked up a trackmaster Toby loco yesterday while getting something for the kids and today I got a Thomas with a circle of track - just for fun Smile  Chewy did not like it, she just watched from afar.  It's louder than fasttrack, I think.  Char said maybe I should just get this stuff and not all that Lionel stuff - Laugh  Nice talk with SJ tonight, and then later with Charlie.  Wonder why they don't have battery powered O gauge options with remote control.  They have great batteries now and it would really solve a lot of wiring problems?  With the right gearing and flywheels etc, I think it would work?  TARDIS is ready and we have rocky road?  Let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a sunny 42 degrees. Going up to 50 today with sunshine.

Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and then I will spend some time in the train room, running trains. There is a Nascar race this afternoon, which should be a good one.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

I hope someone starts the SPF today.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Good morning. It's 63° with 95% humidity. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms today. The high will be 78°.

It's raining here in the wettest of the continental United States. I hear both rain and thunder. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue across inland southeast Texas and central Louisiana. I have no idea what I'll be doing today. I may be able to get some of the layout cleaned up. That's been neglected pretty much this past month. But then that's usual. I'll work on it and play with it for a while then I'll leave it alone or flat out ignore it for a while. There's been no further progress on the grain elevator scratch build. Well, these storms are getting closer and are sounding really nasty. Time to go.

Good Mornin'Y'all From Crystal Clear And A Cool 39 Degrees Taxachusetts,

Apparently Maximus the dog forgot to turn back his clock last night.  He got up at the time dictated by his biological clock and so sleeping in for an extra hour of sleep this morning was wiped out.

This morning has me thinking about BOC and HudsonJohn.  I hope you are feeling tolerable, BOC.  And John, you even have me counting the days until you reach LAZ-ville.  Stay safe!!!  Angel

Wow it was 31 degrees at 7;30 am. yuck

Is it really true that help in the east coast was refused because of non union volunteer's? That's totally insane. It will be back to the train show and layout this morning, from what I saw yesterday I'm not expecting to bring any treasures home..S.J.

Kevin, depending on the load PW ZWs will run from warm to Hot. I use to have a fan blowing on mine.

Aloha. 38 and sunny. Appreciated the extra sleep. My mom has power again. She refused to leave her house for all these post-Sandy days. A few friends still without power got some marathon-vacated hotel rooms. Kudos to all the linemen. I appreciate our buried utilities...

sir james I
Wow it was 31 degrees at 7;30 am. yuck

After I got this post from Sir James I was reminded about something I always leave until the temperatures are frigid, it is sleeting/snowing, it is dark, or all of the above.

So I went out and checked the tire pressures on our two vehicles.  Sure enough!  All 8 of the tires were 4 psi lower than what I like to set them at.  The reason:  for some strange reason the outdoor temperatures are running about 30 degrees lower than they were back in September! Smile, Wink & Grin

So I got out my trusty  "Shop Force" electric air pump and brought them all up to snuff.  I love that thing.  Plug it in and it does all of the work for me (has an analog gauge on it, but it is not accurate, off by a whopping 8 psi!).

I like to run the tires 2-4 psi higher than recommended.  Both vehicles have TPMS (tire pressure monitoring systems)  which read out each tire pressure on the dash when that DIC (driver's info. control) is selected.  But these systems, while valuable especially when a tire starts to lose air pressure, are always "off" by  + or - 1-2 pounds per square inch.

I use an "Slime" brand analog tire gauge (glass and brass with a needle indicator) and depend on that for accuracy.

One can expect tire pressures to drop about 1+ psi per 10 degree drop in ambient temperature.  I check the tires when they are cold, as recommended, after the car has sat overnight.

Which reminds me......it is time to swap out the batteries in my smoke/carbon monoxide detectors!!!!  Mine are all hard wired with battery backup.

Later, gang!!!
