Jeffrey - I spy something vaguely familar behind that SP diesel

Yep, that's a Fleischmann rail bus. It runs pretty good but the deep flanges are a problem on turnouts.

Good morning. It's 60° with 100% humidity. It's mostly cloudy. The high will be 78° and there's a fair chance of thunderstorms.

I managed to get a few hours of sleep last night and I feel a bit better than I did last night. I still don't feel well though.

I may get some layout work done today. That remains to be seen.

Greetings Y'all From Crystal Clear Taxachusetts,

I will try to catch up on my reading here later but was just blasting through the zillion posts since I last signed in Friday.....or was it Thursday????  Then I came across these pictures. Thumbs Up

lionroar88
And before I head to bed... here are some shots from Thanksgiving.

Hmmm... I wonder what is in here?

"Christina. Did you find anything?"

Not yet! It is really dark in there!

Sure wish I had a light!

Would someone PLEASE get me a light!?!?!

I think there is a monster in there!

Dad! I am trying to concentrate! Please! Stop with the pictures.

OK FINE! Take the picture already!

Who said litte girls aren't expresive!?!?

Brent.....these pics of Christina are great!  They prompted an immediate flashback to when my son smashed his peanut butter and jelly sandwich into the tape opening of my new hi-fi stereo VCR, one of the first stereo VCR units to come to market. Laugh  Said son kept shoving his "samich" into the tape slot until the tape door closed. Bang Head  Imagine my surprise and dismay when I saw the peanut butter and jelly residue all over the front of the unit and my even greater surprise when I opened the tape door. LaughBang Head

You are going to have to buy the Q a new, taller audio/video cabinet and hutch (with lower glass doors, remote control functional) to elevate your TV higher than the current 29" and enable you to tether shut the lower cabinet doors (containing your AV equipment).

Don't tell Q the "why" other than she deserves new furniture. Wink

That way you can appear to be the doting, caring, and generous, "wifey gift for no reason" husband while your true master plan is to save money (on trashed equipment) and to save extensive time (daily child residue cleaning).

BTW......my VCR was not salvageable. Smile, Wink & Grin

Jack

PS:  If you come up with..... "but that cabinet and the one next to it is brand new and expensive," I can only tell you that you were not thinking ahead and should have consulted the rest of us before you bought it.  ROOKIE!!!!!!!!!  Laugh

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

Just don't bother with replacing the fuse in the DVD/VHS players, more trouble than it's worth. Had fun tearing it apart (not with a shotgun, unfortunately). Laugh

Aloha all! Sunny and cold in Chicago as I'll monitor the surge in network traffic due to Cyber Monday... Finally ate the last turkey last night. Along with a pizza. Stick out tongue Worked most of the day on the layout with the youngest as my 'helper' - then after he went to bed, worked more to fix what he helped on. Wink. Just about finished Pugh's Pit, Mrs. Porty's manse, Dai station, Dimwiddie's gold mine, Pugh's farm and Grumbly Town. Still need to puzzle out Smoke Hill and fix up Ivor's shed. Photos later this week.  For those who don't know what I'm talking about as a theme, see http://ivortheengineonline.com

Jeffrey, at least your VCR isn't flashing 12:00.  Got rid of mine when it died and converted all our tapes to DVDs a few years ago.
Jack, I remember my now-18 year old learning how to run the VCR at Christina's age: put the TV on channel 3, pop in a tape, press fast forward on the remote... LOL
Brent, Jack's post reminded me of something I'm sure you've worked on - before Christina gets a little taller, fix anything she can pull over onto herself to the wall: my friend's toddler inadvertently pulled over the TV cabinet with the TV crashing down 'over' her - fortunately she was protected somewhat by the cabinet doors.
Ray, that's a good joke.

If anyones in Chicago, here's some nice holiday train rides: http://www.transitchicago.com/holidaytrain/ and http://www.irm.org/events/hhr.html
I'll be taking the youngest on both.z

Cloudy and 32 degrees right now on the North Bluff. It may get into the mid to upper 40s later.  No Snow.

The more I work on the Husqvarna riding mover the more I find that I need to replace. Now I have to add a drive belt and front wheel bearing flanges to the list. Bang Head

Went into the old home town yesterday to drop off my neighbors PC for repair by a friend of mine. So the neighbor and I stopped at the old Moose lodge and I saw some old friends. It was nice. Smile Beer

I set mine up so it never shows the clock and therefore no flashing 12:00. I wouldn't mind have a DVD recorder with a VHS player. Here they cost over $120 and I have better uses for that kind of money.

Had to make a quick trip to town to make a bank deposit. My account was in single digits and I don't want it going minus because I made an error or forgot to list a small charge. I decided to take the scenic route (parallels the KCS mainline) so I went out via Ford Stewart Road, asphalt all the way. go to the end to find a train approaching. A single loco. I didn't give a close look, probably an AC44 from the sound. I thought this won't take long. A tank car unit train, GATX. A hundred cars later and I'm still waiting. Must be all empties or that loco has some really serious horse power. Got to the bank and made the deposit then went down the street and got $10 in gas then back home. Other than that it's been an uneventful day.

Good morning all,

Frost on the pumpkin a little bit this morning or at least it felt like it during my walk.  Possible rain later in week.

Got a phone call from a certain engine/train driver, aka engineer at Knott's Berry Farm last night.  We had a good conversation and compared notes as engineers on learning to stop where you want to.

jefelectric, John, thanks for the compliment on my layout.  Glad you had a chance to see it when you were here.  It does have some nice features even though it is short on scenery like two reverse loops and a wye track so you can change directions of a train each way.

Enjoying the Christmas music on local radio for the duration of the holdays.  Nice to play it while running trains.  Seems so appropriate.  Christmas music and electric trains.

Chief, do you have to do all the butchering yourself when you get a deer?  I was watching a show last night about life in Alaska where this guy shot a problem cow and butchered it right on the spot.  Made me wonder how much work there is doing a deer.  Maybe that's why you don't really want one that bad.  Kind of like fishing but don't feel like cleaning em.

Speaking of reality shows, wonder if those guys on Alaska Gold will ever find much  in Alaska.   I have my doubts with that no luck leader of their's.  The kid on the other claim is too smart for his britches for a seventeen year old.  Surprised somebody hasn't lowered the boom on him yet.

Today is our 53rd wedding anniversary.  Always comes close to Thanksgiving which makes it difficult to do two things at once.  The year we were married (1959) it was on Thanksgiving day that year.  Think we will go out to eat at least tonight at a nice place.

Happy Holidays

Ray

No need. The pictures were taken at TheQ's Aunt's and Uncle's house. The stand weights a hefty 150lbs+, the TV another 75lbs and the cabinet is LOADED with DVDs. It is very stable. Thumbs Up At our house the TV stand weights well over 200lbs, is loaded with AV equipment and BluRays and the TV weights @ 90lbs... simply no way she is going to tople it. The other TVs are mounted to the wall in their respective rooms.

I'm more concerned about the 'plant stand' that I have been relegated to using as an endtable. It is taller than Christina and has a foot print < than 1sq foot. She has come close to pulling it over on herself a number of times trying to climb it!!!!!!

Had dinner with my parents today at their place. Fried catfish, onion rings, coleslaw, beans, hush puppies. Yes, very diabetic unfriendly but delicious.

I know my parents have been married a long time but I wasn't exactly sure how long. So I asked. Fifty-six years. I wish them all the best but I strongly suspect there won't be a fifty-seventh anniversary. Even my father doesn't think so anymore. He counts every day they have together as special and he tries to make the best of it.

If you think that is bad try to get something done with Sprint.  Angry

Just so you know why I am mad at Sprint. This is what Sprint is doing to people in Rural America. I can not call my home land line from my living room with my Sprint phone and anyone else with a Sprint phone can't call our land line. It is by design and is not just here, it is in all Rural areas, see attached link from the FCC.
