I think they're pretty cool, although I'm not buying them. The Polar Express set and the 027 Thomas set are on the Christmas list for the two youngins, so cash is limited[:(][:(].

The interesting thing to me about the car was that it was so politically incorrect. The guys at Kline do not usually do things like that. When they made the Georgia Quarters boxcar the state flag still was a rebel emblem and they replaced it with a peach. The Georgia flag has been changed now, but I thought that was funny that they would not print a rebel flag, but will make this one. I also do not know if it was meant to honor the effort of Dubya to get these guys or if it was supposed to make fun of him as a cowboy. I plan to buy one of each.

You know it really doesn't matter if you like them or not. If they are politically correct or not. They are selling. I personally think they are hilarious but I wouldn't buy them because I like more prototypical trains. This could lead to more joke cars though
1- The previously mentioned Bill Clinton chasing Monica Lewinsky
2- The Martha Stewart Jail Car
3- The John Kerry Chasing Gorge Tenet car - changes direction occasionally
4- The Teddy Kennedy operating accessory - Car drives off bridge into water w/ 2 people and only one comes up
5- The Enron Voltmeter car - Meter never moves
6- The Parmalat Milk Car - Has a bank slot with no way of getting money out
7- The Koby Bryant car - see the Bill Clinton car
8- The Rush Limbaugh Car - Chasing a doctor around the car

How about a car with Bush chasing the national debt? What about two versions of the same car with Kerry chasing Bush for Democrats and Bush chasing Kerry for Republicans?

Its funny you should mention the bank car with no way to get the money out. K-line is already producing these. I have the state quarters tank cars and if you put money in there is no way to get it out unless you can rattle it through the slot. I had to stop my kids from sticking money in!!

Interesting. A car with Bush chasing Bin Laden & another with him chasing Saddam are offensive, but the Bill Clinton chasing Monica car is funny. I think people's political biases are showing.

I think the cars are funny. Even the Bill chasing Monica one. I'm not going to buy them, and yes, they're in bad taste. But they're funny, just the same.

I keep reading about these cars being "collector's items," or their "collectibility." Let me tell you--if you are buying these cars because of their collector's value, then you need help:

What are the cars collectors look for today? Factory-mistake cabooses painted brown instead of blue, with only 327 being made.... These cars are rare, in other words, which makes them appealing to collectors. The very fact that a large number of people are buying these cars negates this "collectibility" farce! My plastic caboose from a starter set will probably be worth more in a few decades!

Anyway, I'm not going to buy one, since I like prototypical stuff.

See you around the forums,
Daniel

And let me just say one more thing about this and then I'll shut my yap about it....Where are your STANDARDS? I suppose a boxcar with a graphic of Bush mooning the Middle East would appeal to you? There are plenty of ideas that I have suggested to K-Line and other companies to make, but all of them required a royality because a licensed character. K-line just found something that was "duty-free" and could make some dollar signs with no thought of tackyness. What's next? The Jesus Christ Crucifixion accessory that uses a vibrating motor (like the Lionel cow/horse set) and "walks" Jesus complete with cross up the hill? It would be perfect for Easter.

Trainjumky29- If you like prototypical stuff what are you talking about with the plastic caboose from a starter set

Amtrack Jack - Your crossing the line. There are funny comments and there are stupid ones. I think yours is a stupid one

I wasn't trying to be funny. If I disgusted you, I made my point. Because these cars DISGUST ME. No more on this subject by me. BTW, welcome to the board. You'll notice I don't mince words. Also the correct usage of your tense of "Your" is "You're", a contraction for you are. On to having FUN!!

You misunderstood. I never said you were funny. I said your crossing the line with a stupid comment. I dont need an English lesson. I know what a contraction is. Its called speed typing. If this was an English class you could take points off but it isn't. I don't mince words either.

collectable or not ?
the cars are funny; I don't think that they're (their) just poking fun at Saddam and Osama though. Saddam should have been riding a WMD instead of a black horse.

And please stop trying to convince other posters that your (you're) point of view is the correct one. It's just your point of view! No one will change their (they're) political stripe when reading a thread posting. (correcting someone else's grammar is obviously the best way to convince someone of your position too.)

If you like'em buy'em if not keep your plastic cabooses handy.

Dear bluelinec4,
I said I like prototypical stuff, not that I am a stickler for it. If it looks like it reasonably might have existed on a real railroad (and of course it is in the paint scheme of my freelanced railroad) then I might be interested in it.

Further still, calling Amtrack Jack stupid is in and of itself crossing the line. And just calling it stupid doesn't (note the contraction) give your statement any credence. If you post reasoned statements to support your position, then I'll read. And if you take offense to someone trying to help you (in this case with your grammar), are you really the person we want to have on this forum?

Most respectfully yours,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel. Now, I'm painting an old boxcar with a Clifford the Big Red dog graphic from a Wendy's bag for my son who loves this character. THIS is what the hobby is all about.

Hi Alan, and welcome. If I want to waste my time trying to convince someone that a car is in poor taste, I certainly have that right. You know, since you guys came here, I've had more FLAMES in one day than ALL the time on this forum. Calling me stupid was never done until you new guys appeared! You see, here on THIS board, we let others speak their minds and then move on. You have now, so we move on.... We don't harp on the fact they may be wrong or that you disagree that I shouldn't be convincing, or, or, or. WHEW!...You just need time to adjust to this board and get the arguing from the other board out of your system. Now, about what color red to use for this Clifford car...I think War Bonnet red?

I didn't know you two owned the forum. Should i have asked if I could post. ( Oh I forgot to capitalize the I ) . I did not call anybody stupid. I said it was a stupid comment. I don't see why anybody has to cross the line and mock religion because you don't like a train. That is what I deem a stupid comment not a stupid person. ( Did I spell everything right ) .
As for the two cars in question they are supposed to be funny. Comedy is a funny thing in itself. Some people get the joke and some people don't. So if you don't get the joke why do you have to mock the person that I believe was our savior. Thats ( Oops another one of those darned contractions ) crossing the line of good taste. If this post is indicitive of your forum I am sorry I ever looked here. I myself find them pretty funny. If you don't then so what.

Hey guys,

Lets play nice. Let's avoid the politics. You can like the cars or think they're the dumbest thing to hit the shelf, but let's leave the real world, the politics, and sniping outside please.

Jack, relax, don't take things personally, this is a hobby.

You posted what could be viewed a 'HOT BUTTON" topic, and strong opinions should be expected. Not all of them will be the same as yours!!!

I posted a topic over on the MR forum last month, never expecting to get much argument, and one guy took offense with my remarks, and made some pretty nasty personal comments!! Although I was outraged, I did not respond directly to the guy, but instead watched as many of the other members responded saying that HE was out of line.

There are better ways to deal with disagreement than this, I consider you a friend, RELAX, TAKE A BREAK, GO RUN SOME TRAINS!!!! [:)]

Hey Guys, We all have a point of view. Honor mine, and I will honor yours. By the way, I bought a Williams root beer car today. Doesn't fit anywhere on my layout, I just liked it, and had the money to buy it. Remember the trains???

Good one Pensy_fan, that is one of the hazards of toy trains. We expect accuracy on every piece, but unless it is marketed as a scale model, we shouldn't get our hopes up. On the other hand, if the manufacturers are going to spend the money to make a mold, one would think they would try to get it close.[banghead][swg]

Dontrainman, If you were refering to my use of large text, I do that sometimes when I want to make a point. I wasn't angry or yelling, but rather trying to be forceful and firm with that message, and use the size to call attention to it, lest it get lost in the shuffle.

Jack is a friend of mine, and I emailed him last night, and I thought he was just going to let this one go. I don't like to see this kind of bickering and name calling and finger pointing, and I'm quite sure that most members feel the same. The bottom line is that we all need to respect each other and get along.

Boy, what fun. Looks to me like the regulars here are a little sensitive about the new blood. Maybe everybody needs to take a giant step back, and remember this is a hobby.

Since everyone is putting in their two cents on forum ettiquette, here is mine:

1. Correcting other posters grammar is a no no. Its rude. Some mistakes are typos, others are not. It's irrelevant. This isn't English class.

2. Caps, bold face, and large text read like shouting. Nobody likes to be shouted at. Everyone thinks what they have to say is important, but no one is more important than anyone else. If we all shouted, no one could hear anything. Nix on these.

3. You gain respect on any forum by what you say, and the quality of your posts, and your willingness to help others, just like life. Seniority and post counts are irrelevant.

4. If you're joking, unless you know the recipient of the joke well, indicate so with an appropriate smiley. We can't read facial expressions here. This saves a lot of hurt feelings.

I don't always observe these a hundred percent myself, but I believe they are good guidelines.

Let's not get all worked up about these K-Line cars. Personally I wouldn't buy one, my train budget is too limited to buy junk like this, but if they turn your crank by all means order one up. So far I've got to hand it to Williams for avoiding producing stuff like this, most every other manufacturer has made some tacky stuff too. It's too bad that K-Line didn't spend their time and money upgrading some of their starter engines. I've got one of their little Alcos painted for the Santa Fe but I seldom run it. It looks good but runs like crap. If it ran like my Williams engines it would be on the track now.

willrothfuss,

You are absolutely correct!

Everyone should Read and Reread your post! Even the "regulars".

And at least TRY those points you made.
