The Britains are coming! The Britains are coming!

Lake affect snows have not dampened my town of Meyersdale,PA's annual Veteran's Day parade.  The mayor and town council pulled out all the stops, and managed to bring the world famous Budweiser Clydesdale hitch to bring up the rear of this year's event.

Actually, this scene is the culmination of my burgeoning interest in collectable toy soldiers, researching old photos of parades in Cumberland, MD,  and attending Keyser, WV's Veteran's Day parade last year.

Included in this scene are Gen. Washington (Britains), 3 revolutionary soldiers (AMHS), a Union marching band (Frontline Figures), the Royal Welsh Fusiliers (Britains), U.S. Marine color guard and drum & bugle corps (Britains), and the Clydesdale team (ERTL).

Jim, I learn something everyday.  I didn't know ol' U.S. raised Clydes.  Actually my wife bought the team at a Timonium train show.

I don't know about the history of clydesdales, but I'll bet they are from England.  I think I was told once they were bred as warhorses to carry men in heavy armor?  The Busch family has been raising them for generations here in the USA and they are the main advertising angle for AB productes like Budweiser and Busch beers, so very big here in the St. Louis area.  They raise them at Grant's Farm.

I have a cousin in the Marines over there in Iraq right now, it feels good to know that there are those that do care and do appreciate the armed forces and all that they do for him.
