"E" unit question
Posted by envfocus on Monday, August 14, 2006 8:06 AM

Is there a way to look at the undercarriage of a "O" gauge Lionel #253 electric locomotive and tell if it has an "E" unit.  I have one that has apparently had its paint stripped and there is no "E" on the brass insert, but I'm aware that Lionel also rubber stamped an "E" on the side of some types. There is a manual reverse knob, but I thought even the non "E" 253 engines came with this.  I have no way to test it on a track.  Any insight on this would be appreciated.  Thanks.
