Easter,
I too grew up in NJ, by Hackensack. Went to Manasquan every summer. Funny how we both end up in GA where the train stores are limited and the food is likewise. Married me a souther bell, so I doubt we will head north for more than a short visit.

I think I could afford to live up there, but would have a lot less and retirement would be a big struggle when I get there.

Easter - I grew up in Bloomfield, N.j. and spent my summers at my Uncles place in Belmar. Friday night was usually the races at Wall stadium and Sat. night was Asbury Park.

I also remember the subs and the frog men. Seems to me that I had all the frogmen and both the subs. They went out to trash way back then. It is interesting they can still be bought. I used to have a Marx Revolunary War set and several years ago I walked into a train show and a Marx train dealer also had reproduction soldiers for that set along with the indians that came with it. Seems he also had the Ft Apache soldiers and indian also. I was really surprised that there was a market for such. I had sold the Revoluntary War set about 1990. It was complete, still had all the soldiers, indians, accessories and fort pieces. It was just missing the cannon balls. Excellent shape. Got $400 dollars for it with original box. I never knew if I got taken or not.

Easter,

As far as I can determine, in 1962-63, Lionel made the #6501 Flat with Jet Motorboat. It was powered by "pellets" which were "a compound of sodium bicarbonate," and under ideal conditions (still water) could propel the boat as much as 10 feet!

There were also two flatcars with submarines #3820 and 3830, produced between 1960-63. At least some were powered (by rubber bands) and at least some were sold as kits.

So there is a train connection here, albeit a tad flimsy.

I do remember those drinking birds. I was always fascinated by them. I was also fascinated with the guy who could spin all those plates on the Ed Sullivan show too.

Keith, Corgi made a die cast Beattles Yellow Submarine just recently. It would look great on a flatcar.

I had the Fort Apache set. Also had Gen. Custer and Billy West figures by Marx. Same size as G.I. Joes, but with molded on clothes.

Had the frogmen and the subs. Had a big aircraft carrier and small planes. Use to fly them off and on. Had a set of Civil War soldiers and etc. Guess who always won in my battles? [;)]

One of the sets I always remember is a Space Fort back in the early 50's. It was litho tin plate interlocking walls and, I think, a couple of buildings and a whole bunch of little space rangers and aliens. I'm not sure what ever happened to it. Probably was passed on to a younger cousin like many of the toys I outgrew.

The French Foriegn Legion set. Yes, I had forgotten about that one. I remember it from being on display, I believe at Sears. Probably more valuable than the Revolunary War set.
